  • I just love my Yashica electro 35 :D I picked it up at an antique store in Vienna for around 15€....And it´s just amazing

  • what was the camera you were talking about at around 7 min?

  • I only really have DSLR experience but I want to experiment with a rangefinder. What rangefinder would you recommend for someone who just wants to have fun with it and learn something along the way. Hopefully something that is affordable and fairly accessible. Konica C35?? How does the C35 differ from the C35 FD? Cool show you got going, keep it up!

  • I need to get a rangefinder. I've been looking for some russian leica copies like the zorki4 and kiev4am. I also need to get some film for my polaroid 320.

  • I got my first Rangefinder two days ago, Its a Yashica Mg-1, I need a battery to have the full range of shutter speeds because the old mercury battery in it is dead. Luckily Radioshack carries an equivalent replacement battery

  • Like the video. Though you must be loaded Titanium m9 and titanium summilux wow. I spend my last once of cash on M8 with summicron and you just whip out the m9 like its nothing! Respect though.

  • sorry what is the camera model you are showing when you are talking about life magazine.. is it a leica model... thanks...

  • oh man , i am so so jealous, specially those leicas.....do you think leica is overrated and what do you think about the new fuji xpro1. those cameras that want to look like rangefinder but they are not.

  • You must be loaded?

  • get an epson rd-1 and review it. not many reviews out there

  • Cool Collection :)

  • how would you recommend buying a rangefinder online? ebay looks like my only option but i don't want to buy a bunk camera :(

  • I dont have that many cameras about 5 film and out of them my rangefinder is my favorite I have a zorki 4k and their is something special about using a rangefinder they are more personal more reliant on you without all the auto exposure that can take away from the experience of creating your image.

  • The flim type rangfinder will not be so expensive. The digital type Leica, you need $8000 to buy the body only. I had a contax G1. The image are pin sharp for rangfinders. Some brands have limited lenses.

  • i just picked up a ricoh 500 gx and i love it, im in love with rangefinders now

  • which one is the best? konica c35/ olympus trip?

  • HOW can you afford all of those Leica's?

  • Two questions: Is that a titanium summilux? Also, what's that (35mm?) frame hanging around your neck?

    Awesome collection :)

  • what is a cropper for?

    -Thanks!

  • @HeitzelSkatesAustin think of it as a representation of the image on your film/sensor, basically its a viewfinder thats off the camera so you can compose without putting the camera to your eye, therefore maintaining discreetness if you are doing something like street photography

  • I actually grabbed a coffee. Haha. Wonderful video. ♥

  • what's the one at 0:52? and one more thing, could you recommend a relatively cheap leica rangefinder camera? i'd like to stay under $400, if there is any..

  • @TheMiszerak

In the current market a used M series that is fully functional can almost never be found lower than $600. =/ You could absolutely get into a very good Leica thread mount system though. A body and 50mm Summitar while easily fitting your budget. Common user models are the III, IIIC, II, IIC, etc.

  • @rickogezmn thanks

  • you must be the rapper. or should be.

  • jonju, your hair just willy wonkaaa :D yeaay

  • Hi mijonju what do you think of zorki cameras?? are they good?? I want to study rangefinder camera, it looks wonderfull....I love digital camera since im owned 7D and I loved her really much, but I have interest in rangefinder....can you recommend me good rangefinder?? I have limited budget though, around 200US$

  • I have a Zorki 6 but haven't a clue how to use it! It's fascinating to say the least.

  • Just curious but how long have you been acquiring cameras.

  • I love this video!!! ive seen it like 5 times!!, i need to get a rangefinder already!!!!

  • Just saw your video for the first time. Real nice intro to RFs. What do you think of the Leica CL by the way? Thinking of picking one up.

  • ive got a canonet ql17 coming my way in a few days :D cant wait to play with it!

  • Where did you get all of these... I want to order a few from ebay.. But I'm scared they wont work... :\

  • Dude as I was watching your video my first rangefinder arrived in the mail!!!!!!! Dude it was AWESOME it was a Voigtlander R2a with a 35mm f1.4 Nokton classic

  • Hey Mijonju, I wanted to send a message to you via YouTube messaging, about my Photography Project that I am undertaking. However I found out that you can only receive messages sent by your friends on YouTube. So I was wondering if you time, could you add me as a friend (temporarily) and be able to read my message as it will help me a lot in my Street Photography Project.

(Can everyone else please like this comment so that it can be seen and read by Mijonju)

    Thanks You

    Rubayeth

  • That camera case that you've made looks amazing!

  • Missed one of my favorite rangefinders, the Mamiya 7. Highly recommend checking it if you don't mind shooting 120/220.

  • Hey, Zorki 4!

I love my Zorki 4K. It has a sharp Jupiter 8 lens.

  • Im so freakin jealous of you

  • Hey, Mijonju. I love your show! I really want to get into buying rangefinders, you have convinced me how great they are (I even got one a few weeks ago: the Polaroid 420 Land Camera), but I wish to know which is a really good starter rangefinder that isn't too expensive that I can do street, and general photography with, that also has decent to good glass?

    Thanks!

  • Awsome vids ive been thinking of picking up a range finder for some time ive tryed out the m9 with the 50mm summilux asph and it was therapeutic to say the least lol.

  • so for a rangefinder camera, you try to overlap the two images in the middle of the frame in order to get it into focus, but how do you focus on something that's on the right side or left side of the frame? i really want to try one of these cameras out now. they seem really cool. lol

  • Dude! You shoot more words per second than a EOS 1D !!!! chill out! :) lol

  • Damnit Mijonju! You made me get a Ricoh Auto Half! Now I want a rangefinder!

  • @Mijonju do you have a GOMZ Leningrad Rangefinder? I just subscribed and havent seen all of your videos... Digitalrev sent me :D

  • @Nicaud92 is that like the zorki4 camera?

    dont have it sorry :)

  • @Mijonju Oh, they seem to be quite rare, especially in working condition. They are from the mid 50s-late 60s . And have a spring mechanical wind advance, so theoretically you can get maybe 3 frames in a second on it...which for a rangefinder is quite neat (i think) I wish I had a video of it up.. dang...

They are quite unusual cameras, very finicky.. and it doesnt have any sprocket "teeth" so with each advance the space between exposures gets slightly wider. :/ but are pretty awesome looking!

  • @Nicaud92 actually you can get leningrad rangefinders in my country for 25 EUR :)

  • Hang, I gotta switch heads.

  • hey mijonju do u know any good websites where i can order rangefinders like the ones in the video?

  • @bbreeg26 You have clearly never heard of eBay then

  • Ok, so can i use one of these camera's as a range finder to find range?? Stupid question i know, maybe lol

  • I don't wanna be rude. But, how can you afford that much cameras?

BTW, im bought a rangefinder this week. Loving it soo far =)

  • Man, all of what you said is so true. I don't like SLRs because they feel so impersonal. Also, have you thought about maybe getting a Voiglander Nokton? They're a lot cheaper.

  • @nationofpomation 9:20, there's my Nokton f1.1:)

1:28 thats the f0.95 50mm, quite legendary aswell

  • Dude, you're a God. The world just doesn't know it yet.

  • Hahahah i laughed at 05:00.. You're funny :D

  • Hi, thanks for super cool video. I have the Konica C35 (All black version), but it's not functioning (replaced battery already). Do you know where or how I can get it fixed? I am dying to play with that camera. Oh, I also just bought a Kodak PONY 828, do you have a video on how to use it? Thank you again!

  • hey MIJONJU whats a good rangefinder under 150.00 bucks? honestly cuz of you i got into rangefinders!

  • What is your opinion on the Minolta CLE RF?

  • Haha camera fridge, because they're cool

  • @Mijonju AWESOME VIDEO!! What is that frame necklace?! I must have one!

  • Will you buy a leica noltilux? :D

  • @orangefreak06 I will, but my wallet wont :(

  • @Mijonju Hey, 1 question. What was the camera that peter paker use in the spiderman movie 1?

At the beginning where he shot some spider pictures?

  • Can you get a sweet background defocus on a rangefinder? Im new to this. Rangefinder field! :)

  • @iMachboos Yes :) definitely google Noctilux and rangefinder then look at the images taken with it :)

  • Photography as a medium is to create works means joy to me and all artist needs to know or bond with their tools before doing so. The lesson on SLR, RF, TLR and many other forms out the is essential.

Thank for breaking down one of it.

  • that's about $40k worth of camera!

  • Whats the lens on your Leica M2?

  • @babaz999 It looks like he has a Canon 50mm F1.4 LTM.

  • You must be loaded to afford an M9

  • All of sudden, what you described about being able to see the scene at the moment of exposure with rangefinders made good sense to me. I am starting to like rangefinders more now and am looking for a set... perhaps Leica.

  • I just had chronic orgasms for 15 minutes.

  • Have you tried the Zeiss Ikon ZM?

  • the first viddeo on youtube without dislike! nice..

    i love my XA btw..

  • Richboy!

  • @NoodsCreative rifle :) haha

  • @echuta66 cool! i've tried the R-D1s, i love the part where you can wind the advancer like old vintage cameras!

the new digital leica's dont even have them. great camera :)

  • hey mijonju im new to photography and i want to buy the Canon 7, whered u get it??

I should be sleeping like a log

You know I work all day

  • I found your channel from digital rev, I really love your passion for what you love, keep living like that, it is very inspirational.

  • What's the full name of the camera at 7:15?

  • @ComaRadio leica M9 in chrome

  • hi mijonju! i love all your videos. Anyway, I've send $2 to Japan! ^^ It may be small but I hope it helps(: Anyway, question. I was thinking of getting a rangefinder camera just to try out how fun it is. Could you recommend me any first-level entry cameras? Thanks(:

  • @Zavfir73 thanks a million! we are thankful for any amount and your gesture of care :)

  • @Zavfir73 compact rangerfinders are good :)

  • Cool stuff but when a picture is taken and vf blacks out, it is so fast, and like a blink. You don't really miss the moment.

  • very good video, truly speak from a heart

  • I wish I lived in Japan so I could go on a photo walk with you!

  • good stuff mijonju!

  • I just got an Olympus 35 RC, it's awesome. Mijonju, when you have a rangefinder with an 'Auto' mode and manual modes, which do you prefer to use? The 35 RC has an auto aperture mode, but it can be used fully manual without batteries...I'm not sure which one to do!

  • @heron1991 guess the speed if you feel it, or use auto when you can't decide :)

  • i'm shooting an olympus xa and i really love it. I was wondering if you knew of a way to compensate for the aperture priority if i wanted to shoot 1600 iso film. I hope im being clear enough. thanks!

  • @wafflecakee em.. some people asked the same question before too, maybe you can shoot at 800 then pull the film back up and get those lovely grains.

  • Hi Mijonju. Great video. I've always been curious about rangefinders and got a e-p2 recently. Not a rangefinder, but I love the feel of it. I know about the zorkis, but doubted the quality of them after looking at the price and some sample pictures on the web. What do you think of the pic quality on your zorki? Thanks!

  • 09:42 when you screw on the lens hood for the M5, it sounds like your taking a sword out of its sheath hahaha. which i think is awesome(: heh just saying.

  • Is that a Canon QL17 on the table?

  • @gutsheatj yup :)

  • @Mijonju haha late reply but yea that's cool I have one too. I got it from my grandpa its a little banged up from when he used to use it for work but it still works and I love this camera it has a lot of memories I want to repair it one day ^_^

  • Rangefinders Rock! Thanks Mijonju!

  • I once owned Konica S3 for a while. Loved the compact size but the image quality wasn't what I hoped. Later on, I bought a used contax t3 and it is still the best compact camera ever for me.

  • @fvgotch I have a t3 too :) i am a GR maniac aswell :) ill make a video on compact cameras soon :)

  • I loved this one. Make more long rangefinder videos ;)

  • Mijonju:

I enjoyed your show all the time:)

I really appreciate your philosophy of the photography, and yes, range-finder is fantastic..:)

I have Petri 7s, old camera, but it feels...range finder:)! I don't know how to explain, but just so unique feeling..

When I visit Japan again, I love to go for a photo walk with you if you do not mind, hope you are well, thumbs up!:)

  • Hey, thats an interesting style you're wearing, reminds me of the fashion in tekkonkinkreet!

Does that shirt have some kinda name do you know of? Ive been looking for something similar but I dont know what to call it :/

    thanks

  • i wish i had a RF :(

  • Your camera collection is incredible!

  • The little framer thing around your neck... What is it? And where can I get one?

  • @lexinad it was on sale on my etsy, these are handmade in korea by a friend of mine, But i ran out of stock now.

gotta ask if he could make more.

  • Absolutely amazing!!!!!! I have five RF's now.. completely hooked!!

  • @joiiooc muahahah! we are all poisoned

  • How are you able to afford all these cameras .... Amazing

  • @BMacW650 work, beg for more work, make one's self extremely tired, know lots of people, then get more work, buy and sell foreign currencies such as AUD, going pretty well now.. save save save.. eat less, dont cut your hair... er.. ya thats about it.

  • hi were can i get one of those croppers on a neck less. did u make it

  • @chechepepe007 ill try, :)

  • How is your english so perfect?

  • @dacasman its not, someone is dubbing my voice :)

  • im sorry but what was the name of the latest rangefinder digital cam i heard leica but i just want to make sure, id like to check it out :)

  • @4RGUELLESl

    opps got :D

But would u recommend the m8 or the m9?

  • @4RGUELLESl m9, its full frame :) you it is what the lens has, if you put a 50mm summilux on m8 it becomes 75mm.. or somewhere near that.

  • @4RGUELLESl leica m9 :)

  • would you recomend a voitglander? I have a zorki 4k but sadly i bsted my shutter....

  • @9unslinger bessa r3a is the way man :)

  • @9unslinger bessa r3m is lovely :) please consider.

  • @Mijonju Thanks alot just bought it today with the 40 1.4 and its just amazing!!!!!!!

  • @9unslinger haha! congrats man!

  • @Mijonju i was wondering what do you do for a living, since you have so many cameras......

  • what are rangefinder cameras?

  • Thanks for the rangefinder love.

  • I find that old rangefinders often have stuck shutters or the timer doesn't work.... Mind you I just buy the cheap ones, no leica stuff or anything.

  • The most beautiful moment for me is seeing the perfect print appear in the developer. After working hard at the enlarger, after many tries, having it "magically" appear on the photo paper like that is just wonderful.

  • your leica collection is heavenly~

thank you for making this btw, i love all my cameras, but i always prefer my leica and ql17.

i always thought there was something inherently spiritual about shooting with a rangefinder~~~

  • AWESOME INTRO! haha :D

  • I love my Yashika rangefinder camera!

  • To me, the most beautiful moment in photography is when you take your pics from your camera and develope it, and then you realise you´ve created something beautiful from something random.... That feeling is just awesome :)

  • @adamax08 beautiful feeling indeed

  • Can't believe you didn't do the review on M9 titanium!!!

  • @FukingHero haha didn't wanna make too much boom to it, since the vid was already this long. thanks you :) you realized :)

  • 0:50 is that Fed 2 type A?

  • @kenjingdesign its a leica iif actually :) beautiful camera

  • Mijonju! what is your opinion on the Minolta hi-matic 7s?

  • @tylerismybf0 oh man that was 1 of the cameras i wanted some time ago, now you got me thinking again!

the best one is actually the Minolta hi-matic 7sii<< this one is legendary! if you find this one in black, you are very lucky!!

  • Man......a photo walk with you will be so nice. Too bad I miss the chance.

  • @SoloC852 come again, give me a call :)

  • Why is that your favorite camera?

  • @kauxkaux it feels like me :)

  • I love my rangefinder so very much. It's not just because the love of my life gave it to me , its also so beautifully made- when I take pictures of the sky I can look back on those photos on rainy days and feel wonderful.

I'm in love with film photography & I do not plan on converting over to fully digital photography any time soon.

Because what's better than the tingling excitement of receiving your prints in hand ?

  • @sushigerl "Because what's better than the tingling excitement of receiving your prints in hand ?"

i love that very very much tooooo!! great!!

  • Thanks Mijonju great video as always!

What cheap rangefinder do you recommend new or used?

  • @kauxkaux like i said in my vid, some zorki or kiev replica are great :) less the 200, some even just a 100usd

  • mijonju. great informative video. i think it would be cool to show what the view looks like inside a rangefinder. its interesting, many LIFE mag photographers used 4x5 too, even though 35mm rangefinders were popular due to reproduction issues. wonderful ! keep up the great work ! cheers,
