I only really have DSLR experience but I want to experiment with a rangefinder. What rangefinder would you recommend for someone who just wants to have fun with it and learn something along the way. Hopefully something that is affordable and fairly accessible. Konica C35?? How does the C35 differ from the C35 FD? Cool show you got going, keep it up!
I need to get a rangefinder. I've been looking for some russian leica copies like the zorki4 and kiev4am. I also need to get some film for my polaroid 320.
I got my first Rangefinder two days ago, Its a Yashica Mg-1, I need a battery to have the full range of shutter speeds because the old mercury battery in it is dead. Luckily Radioshack carries an equivalent replacement battery
Like the video. Though you must be loaded Titanium m9 and titanium summilux wow. I spend my last once of cash on M8 with summicron and you just whip out the m9 like its nothing! Respect though.
oh man , i am so so jealous, specially those leicas.....do you think leica is overrated and what do you think about the new fuji xpro1. those cameras that want to look like rangefinder but they are not.
I dont have that many cameras about 5 film and out of them my rangefinder is my favorite I have a zorki 4k and their is something special about using a rangefinder they are more personal more reliant on you without all the auto exposure that can take away from the experience of creating your image.
The flim type rangfinder will not be so expensive. The digital type Leica, you need $8000 to buy the body only. I had a contax G1. The image are pin sharp for rangfinders. Some brands have limited lenses.
@HeitzelSkatesAustin think of it as a representation of the image on your film/sensor, basically its a viewfinder thats off the camera so you can compose without putting the camera to your eye, therefore maintaining discreetness if you are doing something like street photography
what's the one at 0:52? and one more thing, could you recommend a relatively cheap leica rangefinder camera? i'd like to stay under $400, if there is any..
In the current market a used M series that is fully functional can almost never be found lower than $600. =/ You could absolutely get into a very good Leica thread mount system though. A body and 50mm Summitar while easily fitting your budget. Common user models are the III, IIIC, II, IIC, etc.
Hi mijonju what do you think of zorki cameras?? are they good?? I want to study rangefinder camera, it looks wonderfull....I love digital camera since im owned 7D and I loved her really much, but I have interest in rangefinder....can you recommend me good rangefinder?? I have limited budget though, around 200US$

Hey, Mijonju. I love your show! I really want to get into buying rangefinders, you have convinced me how great they are (I even got one a few weeks ago: the Polaroid 420 Land Camera), but I wish to know which is a really good starter rangefinder that isn't too expensive that I can do street, and general photography with, that also has decent to good glass?
Awsome vids ive been thinking of picking up a range finder for some time ive tryed out the m9 with the 50mm summilux asph and it was therapeutic to say the least lol.
so for a rangefinder camera, you try to overlap the two images in the middle of the frame in order to get it into focus, but how do you focus on something that's on the right side or left side of the frame? i really want to try one of these cameras out now. they seem really cool. lol
@Mijonju Oh, they seem to be quite rare, especially in working condition. They are from the mid 50s-late 60s . And have a spring mechanical wind advance, so theoretically you can get maybe 3 frames in a second on it...which for a rangefinder is quite neat (i think) I wish I had a video of it up.. dang...
They are quite unusual cameras, very finicky.. and it doesnt have any sprocket "teeth" so with each advance the space between exposures gets slightly wider. :/ but are pretty awesome looking!
Man, all of what you said is so true. I don't like SLRs because they feel so impersonal. Also, have you thought about maybe getting a Voiglander Nokton? They're a lot cheaper.
Hi, thanks for super cool video. I have the Konica C35 (All black version), but it's not functioning (replaced battery already). Do you know where or how I can get it fixed? I am dying to play with that camera. Oh, I also just bought a Kodak PONY 828, do you have a video on how to use it? Thank you again!
Photography as a medium is to create works means joy to me and all artist needs to know or bond with their tools before doing so. The lesson on SLR, RF, TLR and many other forms out the is essential.

@Mijonju haha late reply but yea that's cool I have one too. I got it from my grandpa its a little banged up from when he used to use it for work but it still works and I love this camera it has a lot of memories I want to repair it one day ^_^
I once owned Konica S3 for a while. Loved the compact size but the image quality wasn't what I hoped. Later on, I bought a used contax t3 and it is still the best compact camera ever for me.

The most beautiful moment for me is seeing the perfect print appear in the developer. After working hard at the enlarger, after many tries, having it "magically" appear on the photo paper like that is just wonderful.
To me, the most beautiful moment in photography is when you take your pics from your camera and develope it, and then you realise you´ve created something beautiful from something random.... That feeling is just awesome :)
I love my rangefinder so very much. It's not just because the love of my life gave it to me , its also so beautifully made- when I take pictures of the sky I can look back on those photos on rainy days and feel wonderful.
I'm in love with film photography & I do not plan on converting over to fully digital photography any time soon.
Because what's better than the tingling excitement of receiving your prints in hand ?
mijonju. great informative video. i think it would be cool to show what the view looks like inside a rangefinder. its interesting, many LIFE mag photographers used 4x5 too, even though 35mm rangefinders were popular due to reproduction issues. wonderful ! keep up the great work ! cheers,
I just love my Yashica electro 35 :D I picked it up at an antique store in Vienna for around 15€....And it´s just amazing

But would u recommend the m8 or the m9?
4RGUELLESl 1 year ago
@4RGUELLESl m9, its full frame :) you it is what the lens has, if you put a 50mm summilux on m8 it becomes 75mm.. or somewhere near that.

what are rangefinder cameras?

Thanks for the rangefinder love.

I find that old rangefinders often have stuck shutters or the timer doesn't work.... Mind you I just buy the cheap ones, no leica stuff or anything.

The most beautiful moment for me is seeing the perfect print appear in the developer. After working hard at the enlarger, after many tries, having it "magically" appear on the photo paper like that is just wonderful.

your leica collection is heavenly~
thank you for making this btw, i love all my cameras, but i always prefer my leica and ql17.
i always thought there was something inherently spiritual about shooting with a rangefinder~~~

What cheap rangefinder do you recommend new or used?
kauxkaux 1 year ago
@kauxkaux like i said in my vid, some zorki or kiev replica are great :) less the 200, some even just a 100usd

mijonju. great informative video. i think it would be cool to show what the view looks like inside a rangefinder. its interesting, many LIFE mag photographers used 4x5 too, even though 35mm rangefinders were popular due to reproduction issues. wonderful ! keep up the great work ! cheers,
