I love her! I love Moon Pix but I also think she still does great albuns, like Jukebox... her voice is so incredible! And when I heard that she was 37 i couldnt believe she seems like 27 years old.
Are you kidding? Her development as an artist is pretty vast - starting out angsty and indie, then more alt-rock, and now a soul singer with great improvisational, jazz-level skill. She's touched on alot
Maybe I´ve heard the wrong albums then. I was actually prepared for a diverse sound, but just about every song I heard starts and end the same way, with some lo-fi guitar in the background and some random wailing from her side...
yeah, her early albums do sound kinda the same. I don't like them much. Actually, the only albums of hers i really love are You Are Free and The Covers Record.
There are two cat power type fans (old more indie, distorted cat power fans that love Rockets and the Myra Lee Album) and the new fans (The Greatest and Aretha, Sing One)
i think everyone loves moon pix though
i'm one of the old type fans and i think barbiesandninjas is too
You show your low musical IQ, not to mention subtle racism, by disliking any genre she dares enter except for the lily-white world of indie-rock, as opposed to her guts to be experiment with her love for dusty Memphis blues present on recent albums.
It's also is sad you define being unrehearsed, down to earth, and plain-spoken, as "unintelligent".
If only she'd be the pedantic, aloof, musically myopic clone of her peers, perhaps you'd like her more?
Yes, but the thing is that she's produced albums with a similar feel two times in a row (The Greatest and Jukebox). Don't get me wrong, they are very different, but are also very similar, i.e. her singing voice. This may be brought on by her maturity, but I still feel that she thinks she's finally found her own style. Personally, I'm a little disappointed because I prefer her older stuff, like You Are Free. The older records are WAY MORE experimental than Jukebox, so do your homework.
it's too bad that she didn't keep the genius of moon pix and you are free as she's started to refine her music more. those were her masterpieces. jukebox is so so disappointing. i hate her in interviews, she sounds very unintelligent. but i'll always love moon pix, you are free, and her earlier albums. jukebox is crap, if you're a new fan because of jukebox, listen to her old stuff, it's much much better. you cant be a fan without knowing it.
