Is this the only English version!? They never got someone to proof read it? I mean anyone on the internet would have been able to help. :< TONS of fans out there would have been able to help.
@krosakikyo download the game, place "special cartridge" SCC (should be a default option in BlueMSX) in slot one then put disc 0 rom in disc slot 1 to start up game. Then after it boots up onto the title screen and the game gives a choice of Run or Install, press the numerical key that corresponds to run. It will ask for disc 1, so replace disc 0 with disc 1. I think I skipped a step or two, but this is the basic formula for getting this to work.
Why go to all the trouble of penetrating MSX2 Snatcher's nearly impregnable code, slaving away for years at a loving fan translation, motivated only by passion for the game itself, dedicated to bringing the game to the English and Portuguese speaking world...
... if you're not going to let a damn native speaker proofread the English one?
Seriously. I have no doubt the Portuguese translation is top-notch, but the grammar mistakes in this are deplorable. Would it really have been that hard?
pc engine was first (it was a directors cut version of the older ones) then ported to sega cd. I cant read jap but the kana in the subheadline says Bionoid
I've never heard of Snatcher, until some retrogamers friends met up on a house and played games. Someone took a SegaCD and booted up Snatcher... I still remember dancing like a Robot on the intro.
I've seen screenshots and videos of the PC Engine version. It does look indentical to the Sega CD one graphics wise. Even the music is the same and it does have voice overs although they are in Japanese of course.
Then why do even hardcore gamers say "Of all the versions, I think Sega CD is the best one I've played." There has to be SOME difference. Otherwise, they'd go with either version and be fine with it.
The PCE and Sega CD versions are mostly identical, but the US version is slightly censored and some other changes were made to appeal to a western audience. Also some minor changes to the story were made. The Sega CD intro was extended. The ending was extended as well, but for the worse.
I'd actually say the PCE version is the best version, but the Sega CD graphics were improved, (Better shading, more details on the characters.) and the PCM music sounds better.
Despite its rep for having the slowest loading time on the msx, I was patient to enjoyed playing it from start to finish. What I like most about this version is the ending. The MSX2 wraps up at Act2 with Gillian leaving the audience on a high note. There was a climatic battle to save Mika from snatcher Benson, Mika sobs over Harry lifeless body, and Gillian shows his resolve by declaring vengeance against the snatchers. Perfect.
yeah the loading times are quite long indeed, thats why i also cut them out with windows movie maker since that is more convenient for youtube :).
a lot of people seem to be very pleased about how this version of snatcher ends and i can understand that as well, although i do prefer the ending the later versions had, i own the sega mega cd version myself i love that game :D
Yup, I've played through the SegaCD a bunch of times, and def a personal fav of mine. Konami did an amazing job with the localization and choice actors to do the voices. The lightgun feature was a nice addition as well. I also partly played the PC-88 and PCE version, but didn't get far due to language barrier. The original Snatcher for PC-88 dished out amazing soundtrack, I def give it 1up compared to the SCC+.

while the designs obviously draw heavily from blade runner, i have to say this game reminds me heavily of Akira (1988)

This should have been ported to the GBC/GBA. Damn it...

I really like the "rawness" of the MSX2 music. It builds a much more creepy atmosphere than, for example, the MegaCD version.

by the way is the chronology metal gear snacther then policenauts

ok..., i'm not sure what happened here, but i replied to a total other comment than this one...
This wasn't meant for this question, ofcourse the msx version was way before the sega cd version.
No idea how my reply got attached to that question.

What's funny is that Japan didn't get the best version of the game out there, and they usually get the best of everything. Lucky us :)
miiwii93 4 years ago
Our Sega CD version is the same game as the Japanese PC Engine version.
Nintega 4 years ago
The Sega CD version had improved graphics, better sound quality, and I'm not sure if the PCE version had voice acting, but the Sega CD version did.

because it had better graphics and sound.

actually color wise the PCE version had the upper hand, but sound wise the sega cd version is the superior one.

yeah the segaCD version is awesome :)
the voice acting is amazing, and the entire antmosphere the game has is stunning.
i also played a bit of the playstation version of snathcer, but i have to say i was quite a bit disappointed in that one.
the music is very medicore and the cg movies are very poorly done. also in some places the characters look weird and very emotionless.
msxlives 4 years ago
sadly i never saw much of the PC-88 version of snatcher, only a few screenshots.
if i remember correctly the PC-88 version had FM music, so im very curious about how that sounds :)
