Thank you for the Hiragana and the Katagana and it was not too slow for this beginner. I am watching Japanese dramas to get become familiar with the language, I'm hoping to visit some time in 2012 please god. It's good to see the written letters and the sounds go together. I wondered significance of the top and bottom writing above the sounds. Is it the two alphabets or upper and lower case letters.

@elizamannion2363 Hiragana (the top) is the traditional Japanese "alphabets". Whereas Katagana (the bottom) is generally used for imports of foreign languages (English) such as computer パソコン, hamburger ハンバーガー, party パーティ etc. ^.^

@thiera0993 Katagana is used for words directly imported from other languages, such as computer (komputa), names like Brad Pitt (burado pitto)... things like that.
