Didn't find anything EITHER. And usually I find EVERYTHING on the net. This must be some kind of... X Files thingy... Wait a sec... Got Scullys number somewhere here... What a chaos on my desk geez.
Plan B: If there's no cure, you'll just have to accept that, just like every other microphone, it's not perfect. This is why graphic equalisers are essential in the recording industry. Fortunately iMovie has a graphic equalizer built in. All you have to do is lower one or two of the sliders on the right side (labelled Treble), and the cricket will disappear. It only takes seconds to do and will work on all your videos.
B: There *are* perfect microphones. Your solution with the equalizer might work tho. But, even with all high tones to the max there shouldn't be a piiip sound for that ammount of money. Maybe just a little noise but not a high frequency tone. It's not like some mic you buy for $5,-
I agree: something as expensive as a Mac shouldn't have noises, which is why plan A is plan A but, in an imperfect world, everyone should always have some kind of fallback prepared.
Experience tells me the graphic equaliser almost certainly *will* work.
There are only *sufficently good* mics, and they're more expensive than most people would pay. Regardless, EQ, compression, gating, etc. are regularly used tools to improve the auditory aesthetic and should not be dismissed so flippantly.
Sure they are good tools to improve audio in general but this is clearly a malfunction of some hardware (or even software like a driver maybe) and shouldn't be fixed artificially.
Yes, it's clearly a malfunction, hence 'Plan A: Return to Apple' and, until Emma actually does this, further discussion of the problem's cause or definition is pointless.
But suggestions for workarounds before that happens (or after, if it's a problem by design and thus can't be fixed) could be helpful - IRL it's called being practical.
So let's wait until an Apple engineer reports back. Hopefully they'll solve it but, if not, I'll be available to help and advise.
I thank you for putting the effort in trying to help Eemma out with this and I never said it wasn't helpfull ;P If it came out that way then I'm sorry. Yes I agree, let's just wait untill she's been to the service center.
Tsk! That you even question it's existance... It's even on the Eemma wiki so who are you to doubt about it huh huh?? LOL ;P I'm not replying to *everybody* just some about technical stuff in this case. I'm sure she doesn't mind and if she does she will slap me so don't worry ;P
I read on a page about the exact same problem. beeping while using the camera. There wasn't any solution to the problem. Sorry! But I'll keep my eyes and ears open if I find something (if the problem still exists, that is).
Sorry for another (not helpful) comment. Someone please beat me up. :)
I have a 2.16 ghz MacBook Pro, which since the day arrived, made a room-filling high-pitched squeal *and* a cricket-like high-pitched chirp.
The high-pitched cricket chirp was caused by the AC inverter for the display, and it has been fixed. That sound comes from between the F10 key on your keyboard and the center of the MacBook. It's an easy fix, and AppleCare has a lot of experience with it so I'm not going to cover that here.
Nah that's not it, cuz it's ONLY there when she records with the iSight cam. That noise is AFAIK only a problem with the MB Pro's and not the normal MB's. Nice you tried to find a solution tho ;P
the simple thing to do is use another program to record your audio track. use a different Mic. not the built in one, make sure you mute the mic that is built in. If the sound is clean bingo you found the culprit
No Brian, if that was the cause she would also hear it while playing music and etc, which is NOT the case. And yeah I fully agree, the editing with the effects are TEH shit :D
I can understand you wanting it fixed. But, just so you know, I'd watch your videos even if you had a midget standing next to you yelling, "I like yummy pudding in my belly" while dancing a jig.
Then again, I like pudding. And I'm quite fond of a good jig. But I like you more than both. <insert "aww" here>
What, you didn't know? The cricket is part of the camera. She lives in there and paints your photo really really fast, so it looks like live video! The sound you hear is her legs moving so quickly. =)
-about the piiip/cricket- I don't know shit about Macs :P But it looks like you've gotten plenty of advice here in the comments already. Good luck getting the situation all worked out!!
So no new vid's until the problem is resolved? Someone help Eemma dammit!! :P Seriously though, you've invested to much money in the product to have this problem, return it (assuming you have a warranty) for a new one.
-About the video- I enjoyed the beginning of this, felt I was watching a preview to a movie before the actual feature film starts (where's the popcorn!) But toward the end it turned into an infomercial (ones you see at like 3am) ..Once you get rid of the "Cricket" and master all the features on the Mac...Look out people!! :D
try to deal with the problem with a good vacuum cleaner (-:P like one of those which suck really hard...Like they sell from house to house (-: or on teleshopping channels.
I hear it through the high frequency horns in my sound system.Sounds like EM interference. Now you have got me curious.I lost my pet cricket a while back...I can't imagine how he got in your computer.(hehehe)
I so would have loved to comment something constructive and helpful...but I just can't think at the moment! (mostly because of that annoying 'cricket-sound' in your videos..) ;-)
Interesting - I have not had that problem with my MacBook-iSight. Have you taken it to Apple to have them check out? Sorry, I can't think of anything to try.
actually it isn't a pain in the ass at all. Takes about 3 seconds to work.
I have the PIIIIIIIIIPPPP too. Every MAC has it, It is the feedback from the silent sounds you and I cannot hear that the mic and video picks up. There is nothing you can do. Either do what I told you or I dont know what lol. It will work. It works for me all the time :D
you're such a perfectionist....maybe you can bring back to the place you bought it from & let them check it out....they may change the mic for you free! If you ask me...i never even noticed the cricket sound thing...i'm too drawn to your gorgeous looking deep brownish eyes with long bushy eye lashes :)
You could just vlog outside and we'd think it was normal background noise (sorry just trying to add a little levity to the situation). I hope you get it figured out. In the mean time don't get too upset, computers don't respond to threats. :P
Mmm, seems like that is what i will have to do. I thought maybe someone that had had the same problem could tell me if I had wrong settings or something. But yeah.. i will.
what camera did you use for the bicycle video then? can't you just use that one?
btw, if you wannna get a lot of hits you could do a video where you and your sister pretend to be lesbian lovers, or at least have the word "lesbian" in the title..
this seems to be a general problem with the internal microphone of the macbook. i heard this noise in videos of several youtuber using the macbook. for example "faintstarlite".
It has to do with interference of electronic components that get picked up by the built-in mic, if it's still under warranty, return it. By the way, Macs suck! LOL
Yes i have. But they all act like they don't hear the sound. They love their macs and think there never can be any problems with them. They just think i'm stupid.
It's a common problem with some built-in mics. So, if you can't solve it by going to a Mac store, you can always try to connect an external mic (I hope macs have a mic input jack, don't they?) and see if that solves the problem... hmmm... you can also try diferent recording volume levels for the built-in mic and see if you can find an optimal setting.
Good luck and... keep those videos coming, we'll ignore the crickets, don't worry ;)
Koshdukai gave me an idea... go to System Preferences -> Hardware -> Sound -> Input, experiment with different levels and check "use ambient noise reduction."
I have tennitus in my inner ear so I hear crickets all the time..... watched the vid.. didn't have a clue... heard nothing different.. finally the ah ha moment.
I'm really going to text "Help Me" to 123. I want to see what happens. Maybe if you record with no sound but write down what you say, then record just your voice on to the computer and add it to the movie, the "Cricket" might not be there.
