my choir is doing this song and we are ALL OBSESSED beyond comprehension. we'll be singing it through the halls and we get the weirdest looks.....WE REGRET NOTHING. takatakata-pataka <3
I can't stop getting chills when I listen to this. We're singing this in the women's chorus at my university. I'm so excited, though I know we won't sound quite as authentic!
@LittleLotte1410 We are doing it at Millikin University :) But my conductor is doing it an octave lower. Normally I'm a soprano, but he put me as an Alto. I was like, "ouchhh. this hurts to go lower than I'm used to!" But I am steadily getting more comfortable with it
Tell him that this is very wrong. Bulgarian folk is freedom, a connection with god, you must sing from your heart, you don't have to think for the song, or for your voice, you don't have to feel uncomfortable in any case. The best bulgarian singers are from little villages, they never study this!
I understand that he try to do his job but bulgarian music is different! When you listen bulgarian choir, you can almost distinguish every single voice. These women didn't try to put their voices in frame. These are their voices, their hearts, their souls, their personal piece of universe. Every woman is different, her voice is different and she sings just like she will be singing if nobody listen to her.
The song is about an old man that dresses young, and joins into a festival happening in his village. Its full of dancing young women. They all scatter right away, when they realize who he is. But, one young girl dosent realize and is stuck alone with this old guy whos ready to dance. Her name is Anjelina if you listen they mention her near the end, and say poor Anjelina. (and i might be spelling angelina wrong..) Its supposed to be funny, not creepy. At least thats what they said in choir.
My high school choir's giong to perform this at the end of the month. Everyone hated it at first, but now we sing it all the time after class, out in the hallways, lol.
na nagore na na dole ei taka pa taka pa otide u selo to ei taka pa taka. pa otide u selo to ei taka pa, ta se vana na o roto ei taka pa. ei taka dum tak ta ka ta pa ta ka dum
I've been fell in love to bulgarian's women choir since I've heard that kind of song in brother bear. never saw that coming. the're beautiful in their simplicity. thanks for posting !
The old Bulgarian is extremely complex language. It has 9 (basic) dialects, with different vocabulary, fonetics and syntaxes but joined in one grammar.
Old bachelor, red bachelor (means he likes to drink)
turned his kalpak (leader hat) backside, up and down (means he was going to do something wild)
And went to the village, where joined the horo ('oro) (collective hand-joined dance), next to the young ladies (girls). When he joined it all of the girls run away (scared, because he was an old drunker) but only the youngest, or the smallest Angelina remand.
Jest dyrygentka, ale jest za kadrem. Wyskakuje na koncu. Ale za zwyczaj występują bez dyrygenta. Trzymają tempo wzajemnie. Wlaśnie to jest tajmnica nierównodzielnego rytmu. Czuje się go intuicyjnie.
In this viedeo you can see some of the major's bulgarian female folk performers: Kremena Stantcheva, Kalinka Zgourova, Olga Borisova, Nadejda Hvoyneva, Radka Alexova....
Nobody knows that this piece was composed by the Bulgarian composer Petr Liondev (Петър Льондев, born in 1936)

@Ninjagrl5432 Wow, that's really weird he would do it an octave lower. I would think that isn't really possible.
