  • Wonder how many people can it carry when it become commercial airplane :D

  • this is a big aircraft and it is great that a London based company took control so they would not go to waste

  • bigger was always better....that's what she said

  • The russians would be scary if they could just get their political ac together.

  • its a documentary about a plane. how come there's a dislike? are you crazy?

  • 01.48 listen to the 007 music!!!! :))))))

  • @CMI1986X64 Simple! It was a different generation back then - bigger was better as the video states! The gentleman said that the competition between the US and the USSR was rife - the philosophy of "anything you can build we can build......only........bigger" regardless of what already existss! Today because of economic pressures the US uses Russian tech to get their astronauts and satellites into orbit esplly to ISS. Whereas back then it was "we must beat one another" no matter at what cost!

  • "back then" refers to the Cold War years

  • Regardless of where the creator come from, as long its for the good of mankind, that is the most important thing of all.

  • @9:49... LOOK OUT!!!!

but seriously, thanks for posting this. i learned a lot about the 225 that i didn't know.

  • Wrong. "Mria" is not Russian word but Ukrainian.

  • @CMI1986X64 dude a space shuttle IS the size of the 747... (not really but still to big to be carried stabily)

  • @CMI1986X64 Who cares... These planes are AMAZING, so be happy you have them on this world :)

  • Wow. Some how I had a dream when I was little that a space shuttle like Buran (With the rocket booster of course).

  • He is Mr. Boeing in USSR

  • It is easy for many to come out here on youtube, and say "Soviet Technology is shit".

    No !!!

Did you listen to the part where he describes how the Boran has no rockets of its own? and That the externa rockets are liquid propelled, can be turned on and off to prevent explosion?

That is absolute genius. They may be "Dirty arsed Commies", but PLEASE, for heaven's sake, have some respect for the God-like Engineers. !!!!

  • Err... 9:07 "Nicknamed 'Мрія', the Russian word for dream..."... errr... No such word in Russian, not even close, it's a Ukranian word for 'dream'!

  • fucking idiots Antonov in the ukrainian airplaine and projecting antonov in ukrainian ingeners!!!!!

  • NB Mriya is a Ukrainian word to Dream, not a russian word!

  • Nice desk

  • "Behind all great american achievement in the 20 century are non-americans or emigrants"

This is said so often and its STUPID because the majority of Americans are immigrants or descedents from Europe.

  • @Honkeybrat exactly! some people are complete idiots for not even thinking that the american constitution was written by foreigners.

  • @Honkeybrat Except for the Native Americans, who, as we know, came 10 000 years ago from Asia.

  • @Honkeybrat I'm proud of my European roots, especially my German ones!

  • @Honkeybrat So what does your comment have to do with this video ? just a random thought you figured you'd put out there ?

  • @TheTomyossarian yes, they converted buran to an attarction in a space fair, complete with kiddy slides and horse roundabouts.

but actually, buran was a structural test article, and not really meant for flying, from what info i read (from western science mags)

  • ahh I see, thanks

  • 9:07 - Mriya is UKRAINIAN WORD FOR DREAM NOT RUSSIAN

  • gonna buy this plane

  • AN-225 license belongs to Ukraine now, but AN-124 license belongs to Russia. recently we restarted the production of AN-124 and there are already contracts for more than 40 new planes. It's possible that This number will go up to more than 100 planes in 2010s.

  • "Mria" is Ukrainian word , not Russian .

  • he may be from a communist country, but dammit i respect his genius!.

    I WANNA FLY THE 225!!!!

  • can someone pls tell if the antonov 125 or c5 is bigger?

  • The AN-124 cargo capacity is 150 tons, and the c5 capacity is 125 tons, though c5 is a few meters longer, but has a smaller wingspan than AN-124.

  • thnx

  • its an An-124, and yes it is bigger than the C-5

  • Comment removed

  • no 225 is the biggest

  • Wow. Great aircraft. And great series! Props to Discovery Channel.

  • The Antonov AN-2 is supposed to be the world's biggest biplane.

  • Larges bi-plane yes lol

  • the an-124 looks an awlful lot like a c-5 me thinks there was some copycats at work here

  • yea also look at the b1b lancer and the tu-135 (or maybe 144?)blackjack

  • i think most russian technolgy is copied

  • " i think most russian "tehnolgy" is copied "

Based on what ? Your american movies ... Why exacly then all your great rocket and avio disiners are ether russian - like Sukorsky or german?Even the PC that you are using this moment is non - american the modern comuter was developed by a bulgarian John Atanasov - an other east euroopen that boost your tech up becouse you lack the brain for it.Behind all great american achievement in the 20 century are non-americans or emigrants (same thing).

  • what sad......buran was a great great design

  • I agree. Buran-Energia, at least how i believe, is better system than Space Shutlle.

  • Mriya (Мрія) is actually a Ukrainian word for Dream, not Russian

  • Idiot... Its only going to Ukraine. Details make a lot of countries.

  • Oleg Konstantinovich Antonov born 7 February 1906, Troitsy Moscow province, In 1930, Antonov graduated from the Kalinin Polytechnical Institute in Leningrad.( Saint Petersburg )In 1946, he was appointed head of the aircraft design bureau, that was later moved to Kiev.(Data from Wikipedia)So he was Russian, and company was moved from Russian land to Ukrainian land because of political decision. Now Ukrainians are proud with somebody's else achivements.

  • Ukranians and russians are brothers bout culturaly and atropological so thouse arguments like russian or ukranian are pointless. Most ukranians i know dont even use ukranian when they talk between themselves - but russian.

  • @BGSlopy There is no such thing as "Ukrainian", most people there are Russian, and a few are Polish. Ukrainian language is essentially Russian country slang. Ukraine is Historically part of Russia, therefore this plane is Russian)))

  • I dated a ukranian and she doesnt actualy share "your" point of view :) Some of them are very pro russian - but others like her are not.Still even i bed she used russian :)You got to admin that during your whole history you are very imperialistic.Expesualy agains Kazan , Volga bulgarians , poles, romanians and so on.

  • @BGSlopy. I beg your pardon? Thats pretty geeky, I'm guessing it didn't work out with you and her!

  • Thats not the point (she returned later back to Ukraine as for me i sayed in my motherland - Bulgaria) the point is that i have spoken whit her and whit the other ukranians whit her and they dont seem to agree that they shud be part of the Russian Federation .Thoul the all speak russian insted of ukranian even when they are having fun or arguing .

  • @hondacivic1992 Don't be a liar. Ukraine existed from the early Middle Ages 8 - 9 century and was known as Rus' with the capital of Kiev. Moscovia emerged in the 13 century as a result of the Tatar invasion, in 17 century invaded Russia - Ukraine and only in 18 century on the order of tsar Peter has called itself Russia. So Ukraine was not a natural part of today's Russia -USSR, but a colony.

  • Absolutely impressive !!!
