The only thing that is making me not use html5 for youtube is the full screen problem. Is anyone else having this problem when they watch videos that are in html5? For some reason i am not able to see anything in the full screen view sometimes..
Flash is a bloated antediluvian resource hog. The purpose of faster hardware and connectivity is to increase speed, decrease bandwidth usage - not to offer programmers a licence to keep increasing bloatware to the point that there is no perceptible improvement in performance. That's just the dying twitches of "Windows Think"
people you do realize that for now adobe flash player is a lot more stable then html5. and what is this silly excuses that notebooks cant do adobe very well
@rdknght17 actually there is no loading speed u can skip ANYWHERE anytime without buffer. and with opera an ap to make the vid bar if how far ur in, nyan cat :D
@123Fusselbirne sure, but it also means its getting rapid development. like google chrome jumping from version 6 to 11 in a year, but sadly flash development has slowed down allot in past years
i know that's why i said that i like the idea but that they should improve the interface or let it be the same one as the original youtube interface! I don't really care but it would be better if they had a better interface since i know HTML5 is fast but I don't really want to use it because the interface just sucks.
@wilfeatscheese me, but hey were still at least one year out, the w3c (the organisation in charge of HTML) has even come out to say that html5 is not at all ready for man stream
html5 sucks it gets my youtube lag especially the auto replay add on wont work and when you shortcut the circle on the bar to the other side it gets lag or wont play wtf, i didnt even join in this shit and yet it automatically installed wtf youtube you shouldnt force your youtubers to use this fucking feature or something
Yes, it is great that Google are now using WebM for YouTube and so making the majority of the video on the web patent free and with no need of a plugin. However, HTML5 is not vidoe -- it is a collection of web standards. There used to be an object tag you could use for video years ago -- the only difference here is there is a chance to use a free CODEC.
You can't build complex web games in HTML5, and I doubt we could ever be able to. Flash mostly people use for watching youtube videos or simple web animations, HTML5 can replace flash in these areas but not wider aspect any time soon. But If Adobe don't add threading support soon Flash could never reach future.
@kickassdj@kickassdj I have to totally disagree with you, using new features like canvas, audio, video and everything else that comes with html5, plus hardware accelerated graphics, developers can begin to build very sophisticated internet games. The problem is that these features are very new, and of course there isn't a good enough framework available to build games using these features. But overtime that will change, and like you say, Flash will be dead in just a few short years.
@7960Dan These few features are not enough for making complex internet games, it would be like making games which we use to make 10 years back in flash but in html5 this time. We have to make sure our application is compatible with all browsers and this become mess when project goes big. Silverlight and JavaFX are good in many areas so does Flash/Flex , HTML5 can't beat timeline and OO feature of actionscript, and tons of libraries and some advance feature any time soon.
@7960Dan Only place where html5 can takeover flash is ads, simple flashy websites and simple games may be. Yes its quiet possible that html5 can replace flash in next 10 years, but I doubt flash won't evolve considering the fact that all these features which html5 is claiming was in flash for more than 10 years.
Flash is the worst piece of software I've ever had the displeasure of using. That said I have used a LOT of bad software and I've been very, very frustrated with it. Flash though? Worse than anything else, anything.
From the HTML5 Beta page: "Fullscreen support is partially implemented. Pressing the fullscreen button will expand the player to fill your browser. If your browser supports a fullscreen option, you can then use that to truly fill the screen"
That rules out Apple's Safari 5 browser then, as it (still) has no fullscreen option. This is interesting given how doggedly Steve Jobs is plugging HTML5.
I joined html5 beta and installed Google Chrome Frame over my IE8. I no longer see the thumb pics in the video lineup, only a little red X and a written description of the file. Man, it sucks.
Flash was around before YouTube and I'll bet it'll stick around even if YouTube switches to HTML 5 one day. I wish anyone saying goodbye to Flash would point out more than video, it seems silly to say HTML 5 can replace Flash, Sliverlight or other technologies because of the video tag.
Also I'm on a netbook, with OS X, runs OK and hasn't crashed (ever... well yet :P).
youtube on html5 is an experiment. not all videos are there. Flash 10.1 has instance management and also abilitity to access hardware acceleration. Youtube makes their income from advertisements. search speed test flash vs html5 on the nexus one.
