  • The only thing that is making me not use html5 for youtube is the full screen problem. Is anyone else having this problem when they watch videos that are in html5? For some reason i am not able to see anything in the full screen view sometimes..

  • Flash is a bloated antediluvian resource hog. The purpose of faster hardware and connectivity is to increase speed, decrease bandwidth usage - not to offer programmers a licence to keep increasing bloatware to the point that there is no perceptible improvement in performance. That's just the dying twitches of "Windows Think"

  • woah it buffers WAYYYYY faster than adobe flash

  • thumbs if ur watching this with an opera ap to make it so the loading thing in the html5 version is nyan cat... no one?

  • what program did u use when it flew to the address bar of ur internet browser?

  • Watching this on HTML5 now :)

  • people you do realize that for now adobe flash player is a lot more stable then html5. and what is this silly excuses that notebooks cant do adobe very well

  • right click and click on "save video as" and you get rickrolled :P

  • Anyone who's using youtube html5:

right-click and click "Save video as..."

  • Won't load in 720p for some reason.

  • HOLY CRAP VIDEOSLOADS like 5x faster

  • @rdknght17 actually there is no loading speed u can skip ANYWHERE anytime without buffer. and with opera an ap to make the vid bar if how far ur in, nyan cat :D

  • Just updated to Firefox 4 and youtube works so much faster with html5!! I'm finally 100% adobe free, thank god.

  • /watch?v=tgwi0lWgX8w

    Coming anytime soon in HTML5?

Sure we dont have to use flash to play videos anymore but is that all we want to do?

  • @123Fusselbirne sure, but it also means its getting rapid development. like google chrome jumping from version 6 to 11 in a year, but sadly flash development has slowed down allot in past years

  • Watched this in HTML5 and it loaded 3x faster than Flash!

  • i like the idea but the interface sucks! why don't they just use the same interface but just with html5?

  • @rtownz251251

    cuz this is beta program.

they want us to feel the SPEED of html5.

  • @utakeit7564

i know that's why i said that i like the idea but that they should improve the interface or let it be the same one as the original youtube interface! I don't really care but it would be better if they had a better interface since i know HTML5 is fast but I don't really want to use it because the interface just sucks.

  • Opera 11 :)

  • cant wait til YT gets out of Beta and officially launches this thing!

  • so with html5 can u watch things on your ipod, iphone and ipad

  • poor adobe..

  • i am sorry but html5 felt like i was transported back to that shitty time of windows media player playing in the browser completely stupid.

  • and of course IE9, the worlds most compatible with HTML5 browser.

  • So Java is now Crap?? :(

  • I look forward to the demise of proprietary plug-ins, particularly such buggy and CPU and battery sucking ones as Flash.

And it looks like over 50% of Web video is now available in HTML5.

Even Adobe is getting into making HTML5 creation tools

iOS market share in Starbucks=dumping Flash in favor of HTML5

  • anyone else think it looks shite ????

  • @wilfeatscheese me, but hey were still at least one year out, the w3c (the organisation in charge of HTML) has even come out to say that html5 is not at all ready for man stream

  • @wilfeatscheese i just automatically got switched over to youtube html5 beta, worst 10 seconds on youtube ever! then i just switched back to flash.

  • html5 sucks it gets my youtube lag especially the auto replay add on wont work and when you shortcut the circle on the bar to the other side it gets lag or wont play wtf, i didnt even join in this shit and yet it automatically installed wtf youtube you shouldnt force your youtubers to use this fucking feature or something

  • This has just gone live now I think

  • Opera supports HTML5 as well.

  • HTML5!=Video

Yes, it is great that Google are now using WebM for YouTube and so making the majority of the video on the web patent free and with no need of a plugin. However, HTML5 is not vidoe -- it is a collection of web standards. There used to be an object tag you could use for video years ago -- the only difference here is there is a chance to use a free CODEC.

  • You can't build complex web games in HTML5, and I doubt we could ever be able to. Flash mostly people use for watching youtube videos or simple web animations, HTML5 can replace flash in these areas but not wider aspect any time soon. But If Adobe don't add threading support soon Flash could never reach future.

  • @kickassdj @kickassdj I have to totally disagree with you, using new features like canvas, audio, video and everything else that comes with html5, plus hardware accelerated graphics, developers can begin to build very sophisticated internet games. The problem is that these features are very new, and of course there isn't a good enough framework available to build games using these features. But overtime that will change, and like you say, Flash will be dead in just a few short years.

  • @7960Dan These few features are not enough for making complex internet games, it would be like making games which we use to make 10 years back in flash but in html5 this time. We have to make sure our application is compatible with all browsers and this become mess when project goes big. Silverlight and JavaFX are good in many areas so does Flash/Flex , HTML5 can't beat timeline and OO feature of actionscript, and tons of libraries and some advance feature any time soon.

  • @7960Dan Only place where html5 can takeover flash is ads, simple flashy websites and simple games may be. Yes its quiet possible that html5 can replace flash in next 10 years, but I doubt flash won't evolve considering the fact that all these features which html5 is claiming was in flash for more than 10 years.

  • Flash is the worst piece of software I've ever had the displeasure of using. That said I have used a LOT of bad software and I've been very, very frustrated with it. Flash though? Worse than anything else, anything.

  • THIS IS WORSE! SHOULD'VE KEPT THE OLD 2008 FORMAT! You could actually rate!

  • From the HTML5 Beta page: "Fullscreen support is partially implemented. Pressing the fullscreen button will expand the player to fill your browser. If your browser supports a fullscreen option, you can then use that to truly fill the screen"

That rules out Apple's Safari 5 browser then, as it (still) has no fullscreen option. This is interesting given how doggedly Steve Jobs is plugging HTML5.

  • Can't wait HTML 5 ,open up the web,for everyone, Open Source Rules!!!!

  • HTML5 really looks good, I'm for it

  • i have the chiptune song playing in the background; i cant recall which it is though, and i have like 4hundred... damn

  • HTML5 *CANNOT* match the features offered by Flash. Just to give some - webcam/mic input, audio, timeline animation, 3D etc.

"Goodbye Flash"? <-- I doubt so...

  • @jogelogy

Flash sucks, its heavy, Adobe doesnt even release a 64 bit version of flash for linux, also, Adobe sponsors Fox News!

  • @erjoalgo

try out HTML5 animations & judge for yourself. see html5vsflash.tumblr.com

the fact the HTML5 is still in its spec and not all browsers had embraced

nor implemented what they had on the draft. WHATWG and W3C are still

"fighting" over it. you say the Flash is heavy, will HTML5 implementation

be lighter??? look at Apple's HTML5 showcase. it will tell you to use Safari

browser with necessary Webkits. shouldn't be HTML5 a standard?

  • Did you really say all of the bugs have been taken out of Flash 10? I had to look sideways at that one.

Anyway thanks for the video on youtube with HTML5. I'll give it a try.

  • testing the html 5 videos, they seem to load quicker, but they look more pixelated on 360 p.

if you get rid of the pixelation, i will be sold

  • @romanicusmacimus

Did you hear him say that you need an HTML5 capable browser? IE sucks. Always has. Get a different browser and try it.

  • javascript isn't by sun, java is. javascript and java are very different, virtually unrelated as far as their syntax and programming interfaces go.

  • @justinl81 did i say javascript sorry. And now that Oracle has bought sun Microsystems its Oracles's Java

  • lol, you have no clue what you are talking about

  • I joined html5 beta and installed Google Chrome Frame over my IE8. I no longer see the thumb pics in the video lineup, only a little red X and a written description of the file. Man, it sucks.

  • Unity3D provides the best 3D experience on the Web. HTML5 evolution is good, plugins serve us for the richer experiences.

  • flash looks better, faster and fullscreenr, why should I use html5 vesion? I don't have a crappy mac.

  • I'm on HTML5.

I landed on this 'small version' page and the video was looking pretty weird there. A lot of distortion.

The full page does display it kinda correctly though.

    Good work.

  • Flash was around before YouTube and I'll bet it'll stick around even if YouTube switches to HTML 5 one day. I wish anyone saying goodbye to Flash would point out more than video, it seems silly to say HTML 5 can replace Flash, Sliverlight or other technologies because of the video tag.

Also I'm on a netbook, with OS X, runs OK and hasn't crashed (ever... well yet :P).

  • Heitch-TML lol :D

  • but still like all others html5 in the future will be succeded by another idea to make the web better

  • silverlight rockzzzzz

  • youtube on html5 is an experiment. not all videos are there. Flash 10.1 has instance management and also abilitity to access hardware acceleration. Youtube makes their income from advertisements. search speed test flash vs html5 on the nexus one. OH NO >> you put up that flash was disappearing when every manufacturer of a mobile device will be using flash 10.1 except Apple. Flash on windows runs 58% MORE EFFICIENT THAN HTML5 IN GOOGLE CHROME. Stop getting facts at the appstore.

  • dude, how did u create your presentation to go zoom out and in, and pan on the side and all those cool effects. Could you please share that with us. Thanks!

  • HTML5 still has a long way to go. the 360p of flash is far superior in sharpness than the HTML5 version.. clicking the functions on the video still doesnt work well. hope this becomes the standard of the internet soon so we do not need proprietary flash and just enjoy the web with no needed plug ins

  • flash plater on windows 58% more efficient than html5 in google chrome

  • what does the rabbit and turtle function on the play button do exactly?

  • yay it works!

    safari on mac os x

  • beautiful

  • @Caliosg html5 is still under heavy development and standardization its hard to port over the billions of video uploaded to youtube so it will be rough. and HTML5 still has a year of development ahead

  • @AlphaComputing not really hard since 99% of the videos aren't even in FLV format to start with.

  • now i cant have that cool lay out. im using chrome 5, please help!

  • Haych Tea Em EL Five ???

  • @MikiRiasBackUpAccnt actually he said Haych tea mel 5

  • i say its good cause i can watch those hd vids that were slow

  • I Think its the best thing brought out since they sliced the pan . hA HA HA HA HA . Na Seriously . But ive noticed not all youtube videos are in HTML5, Why i dont know . and i have 3 different youtube types , html5 , The old You tube , And this more modern youtube interface . i cant explain it . one min its there and then its gone if i refresh the page ! Can Anyone help me with that

  • @ClareAer try clearing your cache because it might be running to many things, since all the youtube beta stuff need to read the cache to run

  • @ClareAer that's because youtube needs time to convert all the videos to HTML5 compatible video container and codec :)... patience

  • You say Firefox supports HTML 5. Well, yes, and no. While it supports the tag structure, it does NOT support the video tag, so currently people will NOT be able to watch You Tube videos in HTML5.

You didn't mention IE, which does support the tag. (sad day that IE does something Firefox doesn't).

  • @robertjm94706 id idnt mention it because IE 9 just came out it didn't exist when i made the video.

Thanks for pointing that out :D

  • @robertjm94706

Not really, Firefox does support the video tag. But it only supports them in an open video codec, such as OGV. Youtube uses h.264 or something like that, which costs money. Mozilla doesn't want to pay that money (I wouldn't either) if there's a free alternative.

  • HTML5 isn't what I expected, the concept it good but currently the support isn't great.

  • Flash version looks better

  • Why won't any html5 videos load for me?? I'm using safari version 4.4,, any ideas?

  • it doesn't support html5 :P

  • LOL I realised right after I posted that hahaha :)

  • Follow the instructions in the video, about the 1 minute mark. Currently Safari is list on the relevant page under Supported Browswers. It's working in my +4 version. Good luck.

  • @jakec360 try google chrome

  • Thanks, I think it may just be my crappy internet connection

  • @jakec360 html5 isnt really good though, its almost the same and i like flash better.

  • ok if you're running chrome and check the speed of another browser without HTML5 on a vid load, HTML5 seems lighter than flash. Have I tested this? No. But if it translates into lighter d/l bandwidth somewhere that's got to be a worthwhile gain.

  • further, this method using HTML5 is still in the dev pool, whereas Flash is a mature methodology. Is it perfect? Maybe not. Does it have potential? Definitely.

  • @jakec360 no its html 5 what makes it laggie

  • Sorry but the Quality sucks.

  • what's with the blockiness (no d/draw or textures on video) and inability to full screen (google chrome 4.0.249.89)

  • at least for now more complex animations, etc are way better in flash. for little things like dropdown menus JS will probably get killed by html5.

But will html5 be as mighty as JS and AS3?

and will there be a proper GUI as in flash for html5, in which i can easely import vector art?

  • Man you got no idea what Javascript can do or what it is, javascript y is not a dropdown menu o validation form experience. Javascript is a complex language based on objects, and saying javascript is get killed by html5 is not posible. I want to see how a GMAIL applications can be build only with html 5 or with flash.. Html 5 is not a language, what javascript it is...

  • it wont die but its not the future

  • Except that flash still will not work on the iPhone, where as html5 does.

  • Google >> Flash CS5 and see what it says about iPhone... Flash CS5 is going to be able to export iPhone apps, some are al ready on the Apps store ... SDK I is easy to make programs / apps in Flash... it just the on-line Flash Player that doesn't work on iPhone... The off line stuff works fine...

  • That's the point though, there are a lot of things that can be done with flash or HTML5 that won't make it through the apple app store approval process, such as google voice. In those instances it's HTML5 by default or stay off the iPhone.

  • maybe the comment was little to fast.

cpu load for flash and html5 on most movies is realy the same.

only the flash 720p has much beter qualty then html5 720p.

    why is that?

  • well html5 is still pretty ruff, its not fluid yet should be when its properly implemented as a standard

  • i'm not a flash fan but its faster for me.

while loading and playing this movie: windows 7 chrome 720p

    cpu load

    flash 11-16 pro

    html5 10-20 pro

and HD from html5 has bad quality

    but maybe thats a bug?

  • html5 just ROCKS !!!

    Flash --> F*** YOU

html uses 4-5%!!! of my cpu.... no buggy any more and too fast.....

Flash uses 35% (94%full screen 720p) and half times stucks my browser... and have to restart the video again...

its not my computer though..... 2.93 Ghz 4GB DDR3 iMac2009sept

    Browser safari&Chrome

So lets hope flash will be extincted by the end of 2010 and it will be just a bad (bug) memory for computers and humans :-P

  • @dias2222 i know why it doesnt work... ITS A MAC.

  • Youtube native HTML5 doesn't work for me. I am using Safari anyways I can use GreaseKit to see youtube with HTML5.

  • i tried html5...its super slow....

  • for now... in final form it should be faster and less cpu heavy than flash

  • Hmm, I've been trying out html 5 beta on youtube with chrome but the videos don't play. Any thoughts? the player does load, but no playing...

  • try clearing aaaaaal browser data and updating chrome

  • It hasn't been fully developed, and it's still a new technology, so you can't expect perfect results. Your google chrome could also be outdated.

  • flash hahaha all bugs out bull crap. Flash has a bunch of bugs, is bloated, slow, laggy, buffers slow

  • yep so lets hope html5 is taken mainstream soon

  • thanks
