S janaki can sing any song in ease which i dont find in chitra. S janaki is the greatest female playback singer in tamil, kannada, telugu and malayalam. Chitra's voice is the same for most songs but s Janaki has done a range of voice modulations Starting from a 5 year old to that of a granny. Wat a versatile singer.......

Janaki is nowhere near Chitra. CHITRA is the BEST singer. Chitra and P.Susheela comes in the same league and only then Janaki comes into picture. Chitra has the sweetest voice and is extremely talented. Do not think that only janaki can change her voice while singing. There are several Tamizh songs in which Chitra has given a different voice and feel altogether. Chitra is the most talented singer and is the singer known to finish recordings in just 1/2 an hour.
Chitra is great, but NOBODY, I mean NOBODY, in Indian music can hold a candle to the most heavenly, silky voice of this prolific, versatile nightingale of Indian music. I always get goosebumps listening to that voice which is similar to a finely-tuned musical instrument. Singers come and singers go, but Janaki beats them all - Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle...you name it! She is to South Indian music as Yesudas is in terms of male singers. No one else can have the faintest hope in coming close!

anyways, comparison between Sharukh and Amithabh is different from comparison between S Janaki and Chitra. In the first case, sharukh is nowhere near to amitabh to be compared with. where as chitra has proven her talent and is one of best singer in india. S janaki too is one of the greatest ever singer in india.
just remember S Janaki is singing at this age - and still very good. i would say no comparison of Chitra wuth her even though Chitra is our reigning best singer. i have heard the first bhaavagaana of Malayalam film songs 'Thaliritta kinaakkal' - original by S J and another one by Chitra - be reaffirmed Chitra is no where near to SJ. also SJ has sung for a 16 year old boy - in a male like song - just imagine the range of voice modulation by a lady! great blessed singer.
