In those same years the government spent 4000 billion to 5000 billion dollars total. That is a large amount. 20%-25%. Post office is a poor example of a government run corporation in the red. Our gov't is in the red and it wasn't when the last democratic president left office. I will admit that I did pay more taxes during the Clinton years, but I without a doubt, I also made more money. Right now, taxes may be low, but I'm not making as much as I use to. The money I save in taxes, I pay in higher gas wages, higher med insurance premiums for my employees and not to mention the losses during the recent crashes. And 100 years later in 1964 it was Democrats who pass the Civil Rights Act. It was LBJ who said that the Civil Rights Act would cause the Democrats to "loose the South for a generation." Well, it's been a generation, and Obama is doing very well in Virginia, South Carolina, and even Mississippi. I'd say the generation of the "solid South" is coming to a close!
