  • Keith Moon was the ULTIMATE rock N' roll drummer!

  • OMG, its Roger Taylor at 3:35 !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Throughout Frank Zappa's film, the orchestra sat behind barbed wire in the concentration camp and played the entire score of 200 Motels. The funniest moment occurred when Keith Moon, haphazardly dressed in a nun’s habit, ducked and dove through the orchestra rows while Ringo Starr, dressed as Frank Zappa in his beard and wig, chased him. I thought it hilarious and could not stop laughing. (Freak Out! My Life with Frank Zappa by Pauline Butcher)

  • Dumbass, he was a legend and The Who could not even replace him with Kenny Jones. You are the insane DickHead. You look like a typical wanna be jack ass.

  • not really sure if you can compare bonham and moon. both equal levels of greatness....that being said however moon did have a muppet created in his image

  • if noel says that keith is like Jimmi hendrix on drums is obviously true

  • All I can say is... 45 Years latter I am still effected by Phases of the Moon .... Se Ya at the Afterparty Moonie......PEACE

  • more info with the song at 7:30 please?

  • @ziggyonthemoon It's called Heaven And Hell written and sung by John Entwistle and it was the first song The Who played at Leeds in 1970. It is my favorite song by them. It was never recorded in a studio by The Who, always played live. Entwistle recorded it solo afterwards though. Both are great but live is speedy with Keith rockin' out.

  • Keith Moon and John Bonham. All I can say is WOW

  • keith moon = artist

    mike portnoy = robot

  • @urgepower Mike Portnoy = Robot

    Keith Moon= God

  • @thadkrgr No, not in Isle of Wight, but the London Coliseum, and the song that was playing was See me feel me.

  • What is the songs name at 4.29

  • @johnnyleeyoung Apart from Tommy. Probably From the Isle of Wight concert. Search for more clips, great show.

  • @johnnyleeyoung The song name is "See Me Feel Me/ Listening To You". The last track on "Tommy".

  • @johnnyleeyoung See me, feel me.

  • La follia del genio... e pare pure molto simpatico, uno che si vorrebbe per amico, un mito.

  • how do you think he does it?

  • 1967 got the Honor of 6 weeks away from Junior High .... and off to Learn the finer parts of Scotch drinking with the then 19 Mooney His bag of Toy Guns and the reason He was NEVER allowed to stay in a Holiday Inn......PEACE

  • @ciadanixy

    lucky bastard!!

  • you know when you just dont want a video to end...

  • A primal force of nature .If not the greatest rock drummer. The one drummer above all others, the one rock performer above all others that I would love to witness one more time!

  • I heard Roger Daltrey is producing a movie of Moon's life, and that Mike Myers is going to have the protagonic.. I hope Myers has all that needs for acting as the best drummer in rock history!! :)

  • the greatest drummer! no one ever near him

  • the band is just perfect..

pete townshend a powerfull guitarrist and a good songriter.

roger daltrey one of the most powerfull voices of rock history.

jhon entwistle a bass of hell.

    keith moon.....is keit moon

  • Keith Moon didn't break drumsticks, no...drum sticks broke themselves to escape the oncoming slaughter they were about to endure.

  • @SolidSnake1162 That's just about the best and funniest description of his sticks i have ever heard, classic ! .......

  • @oberfour overshadowed yes, this was because Led Zeppelin, the rolling stones and the beatles had more fans. In the end a band is always rated by the amount of people who like their music, even when your opinion is different.

Regarding musical performance and chemistry I think LZ was the better band. with all respect for the Who of course.

  • Keith Moons Death: I always understood that Keith died in a hotel. Lately I have read that he ( and mama cass ) died in harry Nillsons Flat. Any of you Moonie fans got the ''drop'' on this?

  • @wanderer1955 7th september 1978 in curzon place next to the intercontinental hotel mayfair it you can see it on the start of a professionals episode (god i'm sad) he had a stake for breakfast and took his medication to help him overcome his alcohol problem but took too much and never woke again rip keith

  • @TheQuadrophenic Yes he had been to Paul McCartneys Buddy Holly Party the night before. I have a pic of Moon & Macca ( somewhere ) sitting together chatting at a table. So he never died in Harry Nilsons Flat in Curzon Place?? ( Now Square )

  • @wanderer1955 oh trust me on this one he died at the flat in curzon place and yes he was at that do the night before google it it's all there to see

  • @TheQuadrophenic Many thanks. I am going around London compiling video footage of Rock & Roll connected places of interest.

  • @wanderer1955 that hotel is the hilton not the intercontinental

  • Rest in peace Keith, you were a true unique soul. May your drumming live on forever... On our radios, record players, CD's....

  • @slobbir no problem my friend

  • The Who, used by all other bands to measure their own self worth.

  • R.I.P. Keith Moon who would've been 65 this week.

  • What song is it at 7:20?

  • @slobbir Heaven and Hell

  • @slobbir heaven and hell, live at tanglewood

  • Happy birthday Keith. We miss you.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!

  • why wasnt i born in the 60'!!?

  • Keith Mood was the craziest bastard ever.. Blew a hole in the floor to talk to the other guys at a hotel once so he could tell them he had an idea. Greatest drummer ever to live... Played from where he'd been not where he was.

    <3 Gotta love it.

  • miss u keith !

  • Thats the problem with Keith Moon critics... They are always comparing his "correctness" or "technological" skill, but to be Honest it was Keith's unorthodox and wild style that made him truly great and THE BEST drummer of all time... I can show u a thousand "Mathmatically Correct" and Technologically Gifted" drummers, but I can only show u ONE Keith Moon.

  • @CueBaLLonE1

well no one Drum Filled like he did. he was faster then the speed of light...

  • anyone else notice that the guys guitar switches from SG to Les Paul for a second at 3:02 then back to SG at 3:04

  • Keith was the original and only TALKING drummer........ GRRRREATTTT!

  • Absolute legend

  • :'o(

    Sadly missed !

    Long Live The Moon

  • There is only 2 persons who can place in the best drummer of all time. Thats Keith Moon and John Bonham. Nobody will ever be able to get better than anyone of theese have ever been <3

  • He's not even good, I Think that Jack Bevan is alot better. Jacks rudiments are fricking sweet and keith moons are poor, Moon is so sloppy and is not in control of his sticks. LONG LIVE FOALS

  • music isn't all rudiments and fundamentals...stop trolling and go practice your paradiddles and ratamacues at 200 bpm some more

  • @SA1NTOFK1LLERS Sorry, my friend was on my account haha. No Keith Moon's obviously great

  • Keith Moon was a great example of what can be lost if you give a strange kid Prozac or Ritalin, etc. He got his genius out through an art, in today's world he would be medicated, and the art would not happen :-(

  • I fucking Love hem!

  • what song at 7:24?

  • @jaqua524 Heaven and Hell - A John Entwistle piece.

  • the sole reason i became a drummer..

  • My dad saw The Who live at the Isle of Wight in 70' i think, and he said he stood there staring at Keith Moon in complete awe with goosebumps all over his body... He said he never looked at drums the same way ever again... Now I cant say if this was do to the stimulants, but he said Keith played at 100 MPH ALL night, which was about a 2 and a half hour set which started at like 2 or 3 in the morning!! I felt the same way when I 1st saw the concert on DVD.. It was incredible!!

  • He's my hero!

  • breaks my heart everytime i watch this..good art down the tubes. : ( r.i.p. mooney

  • Don't forget John Bonham!

  • if you didnt know who he was, you could probably think hes a savant

  • 7 dislikes? Really? Barker fans just won't let it be.

  • @firstmusic00 I like Travis Barker but not as much as Keith Moon

Keith is jammin' with all the other great musicians that have passed.

    Rock in Peace!

  • Keith is the best drummer ever, and I don't get how people say The Who are overrated. If anything, they are underrated. The most overrated band is The Beatles, but that doesn't mean I don't like them. I still listen to The Beatles. So to be short, STOP COMPLAINING! and don't watch the video if you dont like the band! Jeez, its not rocket science!

  • @theTanKid I wouldn't say the Beatles are overrated in any way. The music they've created is so imaginative and diverse. It's like every note was figured out to perfection. The vocal lines are so well matched. You just can't create such music without having a great amount of talent and musical imagination. To me The Who are more like jazz. They have great music it just seems more improvised with Keith in charge.

I'm just trying to say that The Beatles were an amazing band AND The Who also.

  • @Gwuba

Yes, I agree with you completely...I think my wording was wrong, by overrated I meant that EVERYBODY knows the Beatles and not as many are aware of The Who. I do love The Beatles, they're one of my favorite bands. I'm really sorry if I happened to have offended you in any way. :)

  • @theTanKid That is the greatest comment I have ever read.

  • @theTanKid

Agree 100% The Who were over shadowed by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. The Who could kick all their asses with muscianship and preformance.

The Who were with God on stage.

  • @theTanKid your right its rocking science

  • im 12 and hes my role model ^^

  • A shitload of better drummers than Keith Moon. No amount of jibbering by "experts" will change that fact. The Who are waaaaay over-rated. I can't stand them.

  • @fistpounder no one ever said he was the best. and if you dont like them, dont listen to them. whats the use of even commenting on this?

  • @fistpounder Lemme guess... you listen to a lot of metal from the 80s, 90s and 2000s with those drummers that are hailed by their fans as the greatest, right?

  • @fistpounder

the only drummers who can be even considered equals are Neil Piert and George Hurley. they were are and will be miles ahead of everyone for many years to come

  • 3:01 the way that keith played it, on the original recording, was more like this..eh not quite man

  • Greatest drummer ever to walk the earth, Period. No one even compares. Say what you want about technique, but if it doesn't sound good and doesn't come from the heart and soul, there's no point listening. And Keith, he had it all. Just wish people would stop hating on him for his mistakes, we will never ever understand Keith, he's about as unique as you can get. And that's a good thing, he my hero and idol....

  • @sammmm96 what about john Bonham

  • @wweecwcollin I love Bonzo. Technique wise, he was prob better than Moon. But to me, Keith's style was incredible. It was all raw and powerful and he played from his heart. I love that.

  • @sammmm96 i miss both of them. the only real drummer out there still alive is ringo starr i think

  • @sammmm96 THANK YOU! Well said!

  • @sammmm96 Moon was brilliant, yes, and better than John Bonham et al, but he has been bettered by Reni from The Stone Roses; Pete Townshend saw them live and said he was the best drummer he'd seen since Moon. He also tried to steal him for The Who! Others said he was like "ten Keith Moons in one".

Keith Moon was, and always will be, epic though. Outstanding ability.

  • @MrThreshold2009 doubtful

  • @jaqua524 What element of what I wrote is "doubtful"? I covered several areas. You couldn't be any more vague if you tried harder.

  • @MrThreshold2009 that Reni is a better drummer, no one can play the way that keith did

  • @jaqua524 Well are you speaking with any knowledge there or just being hypocritical? Have you seen any footage of Reni playing? His abilities far exceeded Moon's. I've already said Townshend saw him play and he went on to say he was better than Moon. Which he was - he doesn't play anymore.

  • @MrThreshold2009 I have seen him play, otherwise I wouldn't have commented on it. Im sure you are exaggerating because you are a big fan of this guy. Show me when Pete Townsend said "he is better than keith moon"

  • @MrThreshold2009 he said "since Keith Moon", meaning that he is the best "Naturally gifted" drummer since keith, nothing about that statement can lead one to believe that pete said he is better than keith, key word "since", basically, with the exception of moon, I wouldn't put wren in the same catagory as moon

  • @MrThreshold2009 ive seen footage of him, and I would not say he is "10 keith moons in one", that is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard, he is a good drummer, but certainly doesn't belong among all time greats, pete townsend send he was "the most naturally gifted drummer, best natural drummer he's seen SINCE keith moon", that statemeant in no way means that he said he is better than keith, if anything it is using keith as an exception, he's not a better drummer, but lets not argue

  • @jaqua524 Then you clearly haven't watched a lot of clips - Reni Hacienda, for instance, or any of the Blackpool Live performance. There's no way Moon could do something like Elephant Stone. During the Roses' early days he was around Manchester as the guy "like ten Moons in one".

I'm not arguing, simply stating Reni is clearly a better drummer than Moon - his natural successor. You hear insanely complex tracks like Daybreak, Love Spreads, Shoot You Down and swoon in wonder.

  • @MrThreshold2009 sorry man...

  • @jaqua524 .. ur pretty ignorant my friend, u must not understand drumming to well.

  • @CueBaLLonE1 ? why me, lol I think keith is the greatest drummer of all time!

  • @jaqua524 .. lol sorry about that.. I meant to reply to MrThreshold29.. LOL my bad... Yeah Mr Threshold u R a MORON

  • @CueBaLLonE1 a bit late lmao

  • @MrThreshold2009

say what you want about Reni but hes not on Moons level simply because Moon is and was and will always be 1 of a kind he played so distinctive he may be more "technically gifted" then moon but hes certainly not better

  • @H1GhVoL7aGe His playing style isn't as distinctive as is often made out; live, yes, he was a tour de force, but he was quite conventional on albums. Not that there's anything bad about that; his playing on Who Sell out is stunning. But Reni is better. He's a funkier, more subtle version of Moon. Have you even listened to the Stone Roses, or seen any live clips? Stunningly accomplished and as spectacular as Moon, he also had perfect time and a staggering range. Better. Fact.

  • @MrThreshold2009

Say what you want its your opinion. but how is Moons style not as distinctive no other drummer sounds anywhere close to Moon and IMO Reni sounds like a funky Bonham.. its not just skill that makes a drummer better Moon literally played to the song not the instruments. listen to Behind Blue Eyes hes playing with emotion. the vocals, following all the breaks and flowing perfectly with he song I could name 10000 songs he does the same but, you get the picture

  • @H1GhVoL7aGe The loose, joyful rolls, the unending energy, the natural brilliance; Reni's style takes a large amount from Moon. Frankly I think Bonham's quite overrated at times.

I'm a big Moon fan I know all about his style - I've been defending him on other pages where comments have been saying he was out of time and was only brilliant because The Who's style of playing allowed it. Which of course is nonsense. But Reni played with emotion, too, and of course those glorious backing vocals.

  • @MrThreshold2009 Alot of the drummers that I respect and listen to the most , including Moon , called Bonham the best rock and roll drummer in the world. I don't think Bonham is overrated , I think aloty of people really dig his playing

  • @Cincinnatus1869 bonham had a groove, but moon's style was so unduplicatable, he did so much for drumming, and the fact that he could incorpoorate the entire song into his drumming, his constant triplets and melodic drum beats he played, along with his style, and personality, moon was the greatest drummr in the history of rock

  • @jaqua524 it depends what one likes to hear I suppose . It's like asking which is the greatest , Michelangelo or Van Gogh . It depends what sort of paintings you like to look atArt is not a competition to me . .I don't claim to know who is the best but I know what I like

  • @Cincinnatus1869 very true, it can be like that for everything, its just largest preference

  • @MrThreshold2009 better depends upon what you like to hear .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Indeed. Bonham at his peak, when he was 21, was pretty much unmatchable at the time. But for my money, and anyone who saw him play, Reni remains the greatest natural drumming talent. A mixture of the very best of Moon and Bonham. A number of people on this comments page have been dismissive of him based on bias and a lack of knowledge.

I'd also like to mention Jaki Liebezeit (of '70s experimental band Can) who's an absolute genius player, and another largely unknown drummer.

  • @MrThreshold2009 "Lack of Knowledge" well your right about that, whose Reni?

  • @KillingKillFire Type "Reni Hacienda" into Youtube and watch the clip. He was the drummer for The Stone Roses. Watching him live, like with Moon, is the best display for his abilities so he wasn't restricted by studio requirements. The Blackpool Live gig shows it all, really.

  • @MrThreshold2009 he's not as good...just stop..you've been doing this for months

  • @jaqua524 Well hard luck because he is better. And I have replied to other people's responses, that's why I have been "doing this for months". It only takes a minute to respond. If you're too biased to acknowledge a genius drummer and admit it that's your problem - everyone else who knows or saw him live were knowing and saying he's the best drummer in the world. On a three piece kit. It's idiotic to think no one can better another - Moon's been dead for a long time, get over yourself.

  • @MrThreshold2009 stop trolling keith moon videos about fucking Reni

  • @jaqua524 Oh be quiet. I was offering a new drummer to you all and you're so biased you refuse to even acknowedlge brilliance. Your reactions have been nothing more than those of pathetic sychophants. I'd advise you don't wander onto other pages, such as those with Bonham, where his zealots blast Moon's style and say he was overrated. Moon was a brilliant drummer but he has been bettered. If this is the way you respond to someone offering an opinion you need to grow up.

  • @MrThreshold2009 dont tell me I need to grow up, why do you need to feel the need to tell everyone that moon has been bettered by Reni? People are here to enjoy moon's drumming, go gloat about Reni somewhere else. I am open to the idea of a new drummer, i used to dislike bonham, but now he's like my favorite drummer, and I know his fanboys bash moon and thats fine. sorry for coming off hostile bro, but its just a bit annoying how every comment by yours is gloating on Reni and how he is better

  • @jaqua524 ive given him a chance, and he is very good, I would put him near bozzio, like I sai people are here to enjoy moon's drumming, and I am open to the idea of a new drummer, I used to dislike bonham, I just find it kind of annoying how all your comments have been how Reni , which I disagree with, people are here to watch and talk about moon, and it should be left that way, go gloat about Reni on his videos, and I will gladly talk about him and his ability there with u :)..get what i mean?

  • @MrThreshold2009 read my other 2 comments, they didnt fit in one haha, but what I am saying, is I gave him a chance, and to me, I find it rather annoying how all of your comments here are saying how he is better than moon, this video is about moon and his drumming, and we are here to discuss that, leave talking about how Reni is great to videos of him, its wrong to just come and say on a Moon video, Reni is better, you know? (btw i was cranky last night) we can talk of reni on a vid of him

  • @jaqua524 My first message was in response to sammmm96, who wrote "Greatest drummer ever to walk the earth, Period. No one even compares." I was offering a different view to that. If everyone were to just mindlessly go to pages of things they liked and gush away we would live in a boring world.

  • @MrThreshold2009 i believe that people going to pages they like and gushing would not have a worldy impact haha

  • @jaqua524 And neither would someone offering an alternate view.

  • @MrThreshold2009 touche

  • @MrThreshold2009

I admit Reni is the greatest Human Drummer to live

cause we all know Moon and Bonham arent Human

  • @H1GhVoL7aGe They're dead so, indeed, they are no longer human.

  • @MrThreshold2009 ehh, we are always human my friend, even after we die, our souls, light bodies, its all part of being human

  • @jaqua524 I'm an atheist so your notions don't really wash with me there, squire.

  • @MrThreshold2009 has nothing to do with being an athiest lol, im a nothing, I dont really believe in god, I believe its just or existance as human beings

  • @jaqua524 It has something to do with atheism as you were suggesting existence/death is preceded by a soul; "even after we die, our souls, light bodies, its all part of being human." My point was that these guys are dead - they are no longer human as they are not here anymore, and there is no "soul" flapping about up there of Keith Moon drinking brandy and causing chaos etc.

  • @MrThreshold2009 well not physically, but theres no points of arguing, we can agree that it is just sad that moon is gone, especially him going the way he did, trying to better himself :/

  • @sammmm96

Well said. The epitome of The Right Drummer For The Right Band, which as we all know, is the most important aspect of every band that ever lived.

  • I fucking love Keith Moon.

  • Keith Moon. An absolutely exceptional drummer and one of the world's greatest acts. But he was also an absolute bastard. He used to blow up toilets, smash windows, set fire to buildings, throw heavy furniture at passerbys on the street ... he was insane, and it's no wonder he killed himself. I'm almost glad he killed himself, but was a danger to everybody around him. Once he loaded a toilet with dynamite before someone was about to USE the toilet and nearly killed them, and showed no remorse!

  • @ThroughRock

    Trashed hotel rooms, yes.

Trowing furniiture at people? No, a pully system failed while a friend was moving and the papers ran away with it because Keef was there. Loading a toilet before someone was going to use it? No, the man was insane, not stupid.

He's a son of a bitch because he would beat his wife while drunk. It's nice to know that there are still people like you who believe everything they read, though, otherwise the legend that was Keith would be far too tame.

  • well....the who were great, so was keith, but in comparison he wasn't that good a drummer as this video suggests. take terry bozzio for instance....keith was not even close.

  • @Tscherni LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...from what i see, terry bozzio is a failed keith moon imitation

  • @Tscherni

Did you just compare an essentially self tauught drummer to an academic drummer?

  • @lesterclaypool1: (not just...about two weeks ago) frank zappa was self taught too....so yeah.

  • @Tscherni

And Terry Bozzio is a studied, academic drummer.

Apples and oranges and tuna fish with peanut butter.

Regardless, Keep on rockin' in the free world, my friend.

  • when I look at keith I'm sure... i was born too late

  • i would kill to bring back keith back, specially justin bieber

  • 7 real drummers have been here

  • keith moon sucks

  • Regarding the Who Are You concert in Winnipeg, Canada. Loudest concert I ever heard. My ears rang for three days.

  • I saw the Who Are You tour in Winnipeg, Canada. It must have been days before Keith passed. I remember Keith standing on his drum kit, headphones taped to his head giving us the double finger shouting Fuck You Winnipeg! We all roared in appreciation.

  • Entwistle's Gin and whisky bottles @ 5:04

  • Keith didn't play drums; he was the drums.

  • jimi overrated..? you are one deaf prick saying that..explain yourself

  • Keith was just like omg.. the specialist of the Drum Fill.

ive never heard a Drummer yet play 5 million fills at once as good as him.

i remember they asked him once. if u were going to show me drums what adivse would u give? hes responded. " learn how to play the guitar " .

  • I am not a drummer, or even a percussionist for that matter. But I have worked as a musician, and have met a number of drummers who have tried, to no avail, to emulate Keith Moon. And I only know of one drummer who doesn't like him. His criticisms were valid, but tempered. He spoke of throwing technique out the window. This kid had an ego as big as all outdoors, talented as he was (and is), and nobody was any good by him.

But Moon was suited to what he did; he was his own person.

  • Keith Moons style of drumming is absolutely until this day untouched. No one has ever played percussion like this. Ever. I literally watched different people drum for years. And none of them sounding like this guy

  • performance at 8:14?

  • The drums are the Jimi Hendrix of Keith Moon.

  • The BEST ever

  • can someone tell me the song at 8:23

  • @Scarman196 Pinball Wizard.

  • Played from his soul, rather than a sheet of music.

  • Wow? What an amazing drummer to watch! Makes Neil Pert boring (almost)

  • definitely one of the greatest drummers of all time............

  • Absolutely crazy amount of talent. He just knew instinctivly what to do and made good songs brilliant. Love you, Moonie!

  • Poor Keith

  • i dont know why but i cant choose between bonham or moon ?

moon is the hysterical drums and madness!! but bonham is more.. mature i think? if you know what i mean ? powerfull and mean but still they this is about keith.. hes missed!

  • Keith, The other Moon from outerspace.
