Are you people serious? That has to be the most ridiculous set of threads anywhere! Looks like the circus is in town...all that's missing is the fright wig and big red nose. How can anyone take you seriously in that thing?

why can't all rcmp dress in this uniform all the time. It looks much better than modern blue uniforms. WE don't want to lose the memories of the red and black uniform and it could end up being phased out entirely. IT is a national icon of canada and is what gives canada its special feeling

The RCMP uniform is a worldly recognized uniform and gets more respect than any US police force or military. haters will get mad reading this but meh the truth hurts. Canada FTW!

I'm not Canadian, but I might try to guess at a few things:

1) Canada was originally a British colony and is still a part of the Commonwealth, so the scarlet tunic reflects British tradition.

2) The Campaign Hat is commonly worn by State Police, Highway Patrol, and rural Sheriff's Offices.

3) The entire uniform is equestrian--tunic with Sam Browne harness, jodhpurs, riding boots and spurs, and left over from the transition from horses to cars in the first decades of the 20th century.

4) The beautiful colors, traditional design, and history and heritage of this uniform make it the perfect choice for dress, ceremonial, and courtroom duty. I understand that legally it can be used for everyday duty, but is seldom if ever used for that.

5) The everyday duty uniform of the RCMP is similar to other North American modern police departments. Since the Mounties are a federal agency, they are powerful, modern and well-equipped.
