  • The promise of this incredible technology is that it also doubles as a cocain sniffing surface which can easily be passed around the room. It's the right color, it balances nicely in the palm of even the tiniest open hand. Best of all, since each plate is melted in to shape, there is no need to worry about breakage. So, go ahead and hurl them at each other generously. Everyone loves the sound of breaking acrylics. And nothing is really getting broken. Except maybe the restraining order.

  • Stop complaigning so much.

He is actually trying to do something.

I want to see you guys try to invent something yourselves.

  • This isn't an alternative to washing dishes dummy. It's a space-saver. Probably a very expensive one, at that. Thumbs down, this is dumb. Innovative, but dumb.

  • The applied minds of science. Nice science fair project :P

  • Dont you hate dishes? The DishWasher is a kind of appliance that cleans cups, bowls and plates on demand and releases them when youre done. Before dinner, you simply open the Dishwasher and it contains all of the dishes for a family of four. After youve finished eating, simply return the dishes to the Dishwasher where they are cleaned. The dishmaker-sized device takes advantage of soap and water to clean a single dish with less energy than it takes to make a single acrylic dish.

  • there's alot of potential in this for other applications too, as he said near the end of the video. good idea, but i wonder how many times you can reform that acrylic before it degrades to an unusable state?

  • @xollst He said the acrylic lasts 100 uses

  • Yes but a rapid prototyping machine does this and more.

  • couldnt you just use a napkin and toothpick and call it a day? i mean if you hate washing dishes so much that you'd purchase this huge thing and eat old heated food off of your plates...

  • What a stupid invention. It takes less than a minute to wash a plate, they last for more than 100 washes, they are cheaper than that big machine or maybe even that piece of acrylic and the bowl is smaller than your average cup.

  • if this machine could make a multitude/varity (like 1-30 difrent) dishes & bowls

    it would haw some worth

  • listen to the last 30 seconds, it's not about dishes lol

  • Kinda clever, but ultimately pointless.

  • if this prototype was designed as an alternative to dishwasher, the most important handicap is the food remains on these recyclable dishes. if we need to wash these dishes too, it seems we still need a dishwasher.

  • I think ideas like and machines like this are extremely important. A home dish-maker may not be practical, but imagine if even 50% of a car's plastic components could be made with one machine at a dealership's service center. Instead of waiting days or weeks to replace a smashed door panel, it takes minutes to make one. All with minimized shipping and almost zero overhead for inventory.

  • Its all about changing our habits with trash. Not buying expensive machinery that molds and remolds acrylic dishware. I think plastic is the answer, just dont put it in the dishwasher and do it buy hand, Or glass and porcelein works just as well

  • But you still have to clean them!!!

  • Don't think of this as replacing everyday home items. Think of it in marketing terms, who would buy this, who would benefit from this.

If you think along those lines, dorms, hotels, those early years when you first move away from home. This really has a nice nich market to profit from.

  • it doesn't take much to store the disks but what about that big machine? dumass

  • the one that replaces the cabinet space for dishes and the dishwasher...

HMM, I wonder if I would save space or not.

  • Hmmmmm... touche

  • how does it clean them ?

  • I would wash it by hand, let it dry, then reheat.

  • innovative, but won't work. i don't trust the acrylic material (would you eat from a material that's been heated and reshaped more than a dozen times?) . dishes would be greasy with foodstuffs and washing them would defeat the purpose. i suggest someone making a parody called the 'dishbreaker'; a device that turns your 6-piece china set into several thousand pieces. also, the broken pieces would take less room in the landfills. seriously, BUY PAPER PLATES and recycle them, much better idea

  • You can't recycle anything with food on it. And paper products are made from trees... Which there are less and less of.

  • the idea is innovative but i think that ppl dont throw away their dishes on such a regular basis to warrant someone getting a device like this

  • i like the idea but i must question why do we need to make dishes when we want to eat because i think dishes are more or less bought as a set and does not need to be thrown away on a daily basis since most dishes are reusable

granted we do have disposable plates etc but lets take for example glassware do we throw away our glassware after we eat,i highly doubt it

  • Leonardobonanni, why don't you ever reply to the questions posted? You surely must read them otherwise you wouldn't have uploaded in the first place.

  • you would still need to clean the dishes before reshaping them. he says a stack of 15 or 20 non-shaped dishes takes up the same space as one normal dish, but you can also stack normal dishes, so it is more like 35 unshaped dishes take up the same space as 20 shaped ones, which is not a dramatic improvement. the actual machine that shapes them is pretty big, too. this product isn't practical at all.

  • cool yes

    weird: yes

how does it clean the dishes lke heres an example: i eat put it in the next day i use same dish o i c my dinner from 3 days ago

  • The heat when they are shaped into a disc and then into the plate, etc would kill the bacteria and like.

  • That thing prolly costs a ton of cash and uses a big bunch of NRG...why not just eat outta the packet and cans that the food comes in?? people won't eva need to fill the dish washer again..dude we already have something to avoid doing dishes..its called CHILDREN!!!! but i like the recycle stuff its cute and trendy. goodluck w/ da prototype.!!!!

  • smart

  • isn't this how plastic dishes are made in factories already? I just scoff my food from the packets & cans anyway, so I never have had an issuse with washing dishes or putting them away.

  • Cool: Yes

    Practical: No

    Economic: No

Question: How does it clean the dishes?

  • yea how does it clean teh dishes

  • The heat when they are shaped into a disc and then into the plate, etc would kill the bacteria and like.

  • It doesnt remove grease and food residue however.

  • Hmm...Wash it by hand then. But then that would defeat its prupose of not having to wash dishes...

  • intriguing idea, im curious as to how much energy it uses, but otherwise excellent job

new materials always interest me and this is an interesting application to say the least

im curious if u could get this memory material to bear the qualities of the "lotusleaf surface" material ive seen, make it easy to clean off the dishes as well, as people seem to be concerned with that

keep up the work, dont be deterred by complaints

  • i see where he's going with this, but its purpose is impractical

  • Imagine using these during dinner time.."MUM IS DINNER READY??? YES LOVE BUT I STILL NEED TO MAKE THE PLATES...WAIT FOR ANOTHER HOUR SWEETHEART"

This can happen at the restaurant, "Excuse me waiter y is our food not coming? I do apologise sir but the 'dishmaker' is malfunctioning"....HILARIOUS INVENTION...wot on earth were you thinking when u made this???

  • just eat from the packets & cans. it's much easier.

  • Hi, nyc presentation but it's the most ridiculous invention EVER...it's a waste of energy, time, and resources! I'm probably the most laziest person on earth but i would never ever buy that thing! how about you make something that is recyclable, non-toxic, more resourceful, efficient, something that is a real benefit to humanity at large!!!...YOUR DISHWASHER IS CRAZY..i'm sorry but it's CRAZZZZZYYYYYY.

  • omg just use disposible its the same thing!

  • what is the sense in having this product if you have to rinse it off? What's the point, if you are still washing the dish.

  • Silly, what happens to all the food stuck to the plate, this is sad how much time went into all this.

  • you RINSE it off...

  • i really like your idea.

  • How lazy can you get...

  • when he said throw dishes away like those dishes wont be used alot its like for a big party and after a while it will break so its like the next step after styrifoam

  • no1 really throws their dishes away, maybe once in a while but..

  • imagine how much power it takes to heat those up to 300 degrees twice, and wash them. you'd spend more on electricity than you would on plastic disposable plates, trash pickup, and paying your kid allowance to take out the trash.

  • ╔╗╔═╦╗

    ║╚╣║║╚╗

    ╚═╩═╩═╝

    ╔╗╔═╦╗

    ║╚╣║║╚╗

    ╚═╩═╩═╝

  • its prety kool but u still have to wash them and it probly take more energy to make them to put them on a shelf lol but idk good luck

  • when you microwave a bowl of soup will it only be soup afterwards O.o

  • What's wrong with clay plates made on a potters wheel driven by pedal power? Why does everything have to be made of fuckin' plastic?

  • Its good but you still have to wash it

Because if it has like bits of food on it it would get pressed into it

  • Their too fucking small, it takes too damn long, and YOU STILL HAVE TO WASH THEM!

  • he was joking...geezz

  • lol ud wash them anyway unless u want some food in the dish after its been recycled lol.

  • this is really really cool. I'd buy one!

  • Yeah, but it's not eye appealing and it's all loud and stuff

  • i'll buy paper dishes . . . = )

  • Sorry it's stupid. JMO. NEXT!!!

  • ya, and how easyily does that break

  • dont care much for the dish maker but the dude is hella HOT. work on making your shirt disappear.

  • just buy a potters wheel & sling some clay on it! why does everything have to be fuckin' plastic these days anyway?

  • omfg that rulez!

  • it'd be cool to download dishes and make them!

  • Can you buy this thing ? :D

  • Very cool idea.

  • one word for you all... it will solve all your arguments against this machine... "prototype"

  • i think its a good idea but the sizes should be bigger

  • too small

  • lokiclock loves rim polishing and dont understand whats happening just keep mopping man

  • what does this actually solve? you'd still have to wash the food off after a meal. the only practical thing it has going for it is saving space, and you could probably fit a good few years worth of paper plates in the space the machine takes up (for a lot cheaper). plus you'd never catch me eating a roast from one of those... i want something heavy and warm that holds my meal.

  • just cuz you couldn't come up with anything this cool, dont hate its sick

  • i just have one question...dont u still need to wash it at the end?

  • Exactly! I don't really see the purpose of having this machine. Unless, I want to show off to friends that I can make bowls.

  • f**k offf biatch

  • but wouldnt the plates have like food in them iff your recycling them... co u said u dont have to washh emm.. so you plates would get like meat and sauce n stuff through it. yuk

  • Why did the clip cut away before the dish flattened? maybe because it really doesn't work as well as it is supposed to? Ohh, and by the way, you'd still have to wash them, so you really didn't solve a thing. as a matter of fact, it just adds unnecessary steps to eating

  • REVOLUTIONARY!!!! TOTALLY AWESOME

  • One could also argue that a dish washer is not an appliance but is a hot water squirting machine.

Anything is an APPLIance if you APPLY it to your needs.

  • I did say not a 'kitchen appliance' in that it has no real practical application in the kitchen i.e. It doesn't solve a problem that was already there, unless you're in agreement with what he says in the video 'Don't you hate dishes?' If you follow this line you probably hate knives, forks, spoons and cups too. But rest assured I'm sure there's a prototype like the Dish maker in development for each of these items to counter the ill feeling many of us apparently have towards kitchen utensils.

  • I never said I had a problem with dishes and I'm not even trying to defend his machine, just the English language.Although I do see how it could help people with not enough storage space, they could replace several cabinets full of dishes with this one device that makes them on command.

And by the way I never said "kitchen appliance" either.

  • Good idea... but I am not sure sure about hosting a dinner party and serving fancy/expensive food on acrylic plates!!!! Sorry

  • i think it would be an ok idea for people who travel alot but you could make a larger model which could be built into caravans

  • I DONT CARE ABOUT UR STUPID DISHWASHER CUNT!!!!

all these stupid new director vid's piss me the fuck off!!

    is youtube under new management???

  • Yes, Google. Also, it's not a dishwasher, it's a dish MAKER, watch the motherfucking video. This website is called YOUtube, because everyone can have their own TV station. If you don't like it, don't watch it, it's not their fault your tastes are dictated by a random list of user-made videos.

  • what about the shit left on the dish when you EAT OFF IT

  • those dishes are way too small

  • they aid in portion control!

  • they already have thses.............. they are called PAPER PLATES..............goofy idea, and would be too expensive

  • The longest and hardest part of doing dishes is washing what you cooked them in...not what you eat them off. Invent something that makes pots and pans redundant and you're on a winner. In the mean time you can relax and listen to my latest song, it's alright.

  • Only eat raw food and you'll never need cooking vessels.

    Problem Solved.

  • you are an idiot

  • somebody bought this already??? ¬¬

Come on... why you need this? Lasy to whash a dish??

    Please!

  • Not to mention i use MUCH larger dishes then these 'dip or sauce bowls'. I see this on Discovery Channel last year on Ket and truly thought i had imagined it. i'm glad everyone since my post has realized how ridiculous this is.

  • great concept :-)

question is will leonard finish it before we have nano machines at 99$ from waalmart?

  • I am asking this inventor to be a bit more specific on recycling the dishes. On matters of CLEANLINESS and FOOD PARTICLES, etc. - how can washing be avoided? Food buildup would most certainly degrade the plastic material. Inventor/Film Maker, RESPONSE PLEASE?? I am actually quite curious at this point.

  • Dishwashers were invented for people too lazy to wash dishes, and now here we have something for people that are too lazy to use dishwashers? Sorry, I'm too lazy to use it - I'm just going to order Chinese.

  • He talks about how compact the storage of blank disks is. Then says that "the machine takes up a space about the size of a dishwasher." What am I missing here? He says you don't need to wash dishes, just reform them? That should smell nice when they are heated up to 350 degrees to reform them back into disks. Clever idea, but not well thought out and impractical. More like a demo for what a new plastic compound can do.

  • So what happens to the chicken bones and left over potaoe salad?

  • who eats off plates? I scoff straight from cartons & cans! "down the fuckin' hatch" I dont even bother chewing, just swallow the fucker.

  • stupid

    realy stupid

  • you would do better mopping the floor naked lol

  • when was storing dishes ever even slightly in the most remotest sense of the thought, DIFFICULT?! I've had my dishes for like 10 years and half of them are hand me downs and they are just great. i don't see anything coming out of this 'technology'.

  • I buy a whole set of new plates every week, hand me down plates!!! you're nuts.

  • You are an idiot.

  • the most idiotic invention ive ever seen! i know its a prototype and all but my god just how lazy do you have to be, im sure (if its ever marketed) it will be a great hit with americans.

  • i need 4 of them

  • recycled plates, interesting...

  • i have an idea, make it out of sponges

  • wow..... hi-tech...

  • I remember a toy from the sixties called the vac-u-form that did something like that with rectangles of plastic to make any flatish arbitrary shape. The plastic could be reheated and reused many times so long as it was not cut up. Clear and various color plastic. Too dangerous to be sold these days.

  • Other than styrophome plates, the majority of plates are reused anyway...

You would have to clean these dishes yourself or with a dishwasher anyway, because like Peppermint1982 said, the food will probably end up imbedded inside.

But keep it up! I'm sure you'll be able to figure out something.

  • In a wastefull society, dishes are actually one thing that we reuse. I don't think our landfills are over crowded with used dishes. Cool invention, but doesn't satisfy a need or want.

Funny line though - "Don't you hate dishes?"

  • black girls want nails, does that make them also?

  • Just eat over the sink. That's what I do.

  • so you still have to get them yourself, clean them yourself and put them back yourself. just, they're going to be made out of a magic acrylic. great..

  • genious O.O

  • what has your liking for boobs got to do with a dishmaker....you're fuckin' nuts!

  • i like boobs

  • why has this device made you say that? dishmaker....boobs whats the connection, would you like him to melt you a set out of his magic acrylic? they'd be a lot more use than those plates!

  • Uh, am i stupid or is there a huge loop hole here? You said no need to worry about cleaning etc... but what r u saying? I can just put a dirty dish inside the machine to be recycled? When you melt a dirty dish back to original shape, won't the food end up imbedded inside? Minor detail but cool idea!

  • just use bubblewrap dumbshit

  • gosh O__O

  • Another scewed attempt at becoming "eco-friendly". It's almost as big a scam as using ethanol in cars, what a joke. The amount of energy used in making the corn to produce the ethanol actualy uses more than what is obtained from the end ethanol. Also about this machine, I would imagine that the acrylic has to be cleaned before it's reused. Otherwise the heating of the plasitic would also burn any debris on it. It would also have to be sanitized. A few seconds at 300F will not do this.

  • nice job - keep it up!

  • i saw it in Discovery channel!

  • here's a list of things that have taken a step back everytime this machine is used...

cleaning dishes has become extremely efficient anyways, there are now dishwashers that use less energy than would be needed to wash those dishes by hand.

  • consider the power needed to form and reform these dishes, the machine uses conduction and inefficient convection to heat the plates everytime (very inefficient heating). ceramic plates only need to be heated once. that cost is also covered by the manufacturer as apposed to your personal hydro bill. i'd also like to point out that most families could take up less room than your machine, by keeping their current collection of dishes. this is extremely impractical.

  • cool machine. but that's not exactly what we need..

  • Interesting machine Leonardo and credit due for your inventive efforts, but you still have to wash and dry the dishes so it seems somewhat pointless to me.

I would rather have a set of regular ceramic crockery

  • nice acrylic material. i'm sure someone will come up with some use for it. this won't be it though.

  • fake

  • your idea has merit, but I do not throw my fine china away after using, so no landfill is in danger. I don't mind washing them either. good idea however.

  • 2 words:

    paper

    plates

  • those are some tiny dishes. only use for those is maybe a cat bowl. maybe. or a cup saucer...

  • it still seems unhygenic

wont all the dirt get melted in?

  • That was my thought. I'm assuming you still have to wash the dishes before you recycle them, and washing them is the whole trouble with dishes, in my estimation. But still a pretty cool machine.

  • That is really cool. Can it make a cofee cup?

  • thats fuking awesome!!!!

except i would like the dishes in black bettr

  • I know a cute dish I'd like to make. Have been unsuccessful so far so maybe this video will help?

  • dont u think before it is recycled by ur machine it is being cleaned first or it ruins the machine.. ..

  • very good

  • Your cons about dishes: "cleaning them, getting them out and putting them away" still apply...only now you have more steps involved, including forming the dishes, which uses additional energy.

    Good job!

  • Exactly my point, i can't help wondering if this is a wind up
