I almost can with full confidence, barring Novak Djokovic this year and Rafael Nadal, Tommy haas is the only player to play at the same level of beauty and grace as Roger Federer while he was around and give him an amazing match every time. It's a shame his career was plagued with bad luck.
@Thealmostguy Haha by beauty and grace of the two I meant more the level of tennis that they have produced in that year as opposed to anything else. Sorry for my poor word choice.
@tvtotalforever yeah did you know that total haas has been inactive for about 41 months of his tennis career including 2 different sets of 12 months traight.....crazy right
@demondayzzz eh? Haas was two games away from closing out this match , he saved all those break points cuz he served well . After he lost the 3rd set he choked the match away , he was closer than Federer to win that match . Also Federer had some help from the crappy french crowd to break Tommy's rhythm and concentration .
people say he only won cos rafa didnt play, he still had to overcome some very tough matches for example this one and the one against del potro. in both them he was dangerously close to losing.
@federerbestclass Could you please stop busting into threads and writing things of the sort "love Roger and [his opponent]. Federer is the classiest sexiest hottest sweetest kindest greatest ever"
i doubt it, haas never won a single point on federer's serve in the first set and got fortunate in the tie break, that first set was federer's the whole way
and haas was outright outplayed in the last three sets
even though haas was performing better than he usually does, the 5-sets was more due to federer's unforced errors than haas paying well
i saw the down-2-sets-comeback-and-win right after haas won the second set, federer was obviously playing better
Are there betting odds on the period between when two one handers play?? :) if you only include master series and slams I bet it goes months before players meet
Fed wasn't on cruise control pretty much until the final of this tournament. I mean, come on, that tie-break in the final was INSANE. He had aces on ALL his service points, and toyed a bit with Robin on his service points.
@Hazzadude22, I wouldnt agree, coz what causes the damage was psychological after Tommy lost that break point in 3rd set. I dont think it is anything physical, since all those athletes are super fit. I always am surprised of how a point can turn around a match!!!
if roger were to lose in this roland garros, it would have probably been in this match, considering how well tommy was playing, takes some mental strength, to turn the tide around..
fed didn't lose a pt on his serve for the first 2 sets but messed up in the tiebreaks. i was quite nervous for him and had to take an exam so that wasn't ideal, but i did well and when i finished i checked the score and he had won! fucking brilliant!
@AndyRoddick70 well....not sure about that just now. i mean its hard to tell since fed did actually come back to win it after all - and to me it looked like after fed made that good fh in the brink of the 3rd set, he started playing dominating tennis IMO. But haas for the first two were gritty stuff, just kept on hanging in there. i mean that 1st set, haas made no impression, no points won on feds serve, until he snuck it out in the TB. hard to tell in the end.
fed and has have similar playing styles

@ThePaperSails Djokovic and Nadal play with beauty and grace? That's the first time I have ever heard that sentence in my life.

THIS IS A MATCH HAAS SHOULD'VE WON . HE CHOKED IN THIS MATCH BEING TWO GAMES AWAY FROM WINNING (((
soydeespana 10 months ago
@soydeespana which is why he is tommy haas
i don't know about choking, haas was lucky to be 2 sets up, federer was the one who choked in the breakers
and the inside out fh on that break point is not haas choking, it's fed stepping up and being federer.

@Mopzboy fact is fed managed 5 in a row in US and Wimbledon, and nadal couldnt do that on his beloved clay. Federer is greatest.

I'm a huge federer fan, but his forehand just blew during this stretch. I think around 50% of them landed near the service line.

@foul01 Yeah it wasn't as if federer was playing badly.
incredibleXMan 1 year ago
@incredibleXMan
to be honest, yeah
federer was playing pretty poorly starting from the tie break to the 3-4 break point down, nearly 2 sets of poor play
just look at the game play during that span, both players were having a hard time just keeping in play
foul01 1 year ago
Haas was playing out of his head that day. props to him.

In my opinion, if Haas was 25, that day, he would of beat Fed.
Just my opinion.

I remember watching the first set on t.v. Federer did not lose ONE point on his serve! And lost the tie breaker!

Haas played so good because he changed his racket to a Head prestige.

excuse me sorry it wasnt 5-3 in the third set against has
but 4-3 break point federer down
eboood90 2 years ago
i think all players who played against federer WAS BETTER THAN HIS BEST PERFORMANCE
first of them was
acasuso who had 4 set points in first set in tiebreak and had the 2nd set
and in the third he was 5-1 SO IT WAS really dangerous and hard solid tennis btw federer got the 3rd set 7-6 and won the 4th
3rd round mathiew got the first set 6-4
and it was 4 set match
4th round haas who got the first 2 sets and break in the third 5-3 i think then federer turned it around to win 5 set match
