  • My father-in-law recently passed away and I have learned that he and his mother had traveled "though the fields" at night during WWII. His father was captured (Nazi's) and they ended up at a hospital... I located a document that says Rigas Pilsetas Dzimtsarakstu Nodala, Rakstiska zina..... So, I'm assuming this was from the City of Riga. It is dated Sept. 27, 1944.....would love to find out more info.

  • When you're 26, you're stupid. I've lived and worked in Europe. Don't talk! By the way, what do you mean about Israel: "it's all ours'? Is it based on yet another horrible religion? Why should you make that claim and not someone else?

  • Riga is beautiful again, since the Russians left. True, wherever they were in the 40 years after WWll, they ruined the cites and countrysides of Europe, where currently people are hard at work to demolish soviet reminders of the occupation. The Russians showed no sense or sensibility towards the greatness of Western European culture, including architecture. Many Russians never left their occupied lands, because it's better there than in their own horrible Russia. Congratulations, Latvia!

  • @magnifier2020 you're stupid

  • Super!! Paldies!!

  • Those were our best years! we were as developed as Denmark! but then came Russians and you know how it ended!

  • Varbūt vari palīdzēt..vari pateikt kur ņēmi klipiņus? Man skolā jātaisa filma pa šo laiku.

  • Yes but where are all the jews that used to live there till 1941?

Why don't you mention them also?

  • @kapkob2 Who are you asking that question? But on that note, why has it been covered up until recently that Vladimir Lenin was partially Jewish, along with Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky and many others. Why hasn't Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's latest book in which he discusses the brutality of Jewish communist leaders translated into englsih. They brought that brutality to the Baltic countries and deported hundreds of thousands to Siberia and many to their deaths.

  • @gukow1 - varbūt vienkārši aizveries un ej savu demagoģiju klāstīt kaut kur citur?

  • @monkgway

  • @Teledebat

  • @Teledebat

  • @Teledebat

  • @Teledebat

  • @Teledebat

  • @Teledebat

  • For Fatherland and Freedom.

  • Where I can get those materials shown here???

  • It's sad that now Riga has more russians than latvians living in it! I hope some day Russia will pay greatly for it's crimes against Latvia and other Eastern-Europe countries!

  • @skyforer latvians need to have more children...that their popullation will grow again:)

  • 1:42 is after war. Its when Blackheads, Occupation Museum and City Council now.

  • you wrong the first president of the Latvia is Jānis Čakste.

  • what this Music's?

  • The first president of Latvia held a university degree from a university in the United States in Nebraska. His name was Karlis Ulmanis, and he became a relevantly benevolent dictator in 1934, when he dismissed Parliament. Ulmanis ruled until the Soviet re-Incorporation in 1940.

  • In 1721 it reverted to Russia, which governed the country till 1918. Independent from 1918-40, it was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940 (together with the other Baltic Republics). From 1941-44 it was under German rule and was re-Incorporated into the Soviet Union at the end of WWII.

  • The country has had a turbulent history. Before 1918 Latvia has been known by various other names. One widely used name was Livonia, which covered the northern part of the country. The other name was widely used, such as Courland. In the Middle Ages the area was colonized by the Livonian Teutonic Knights.

  • would be beeter if would be some voice over with info... but its ok... nice!

  • Well- picture at 1:32 is after- war time, about 1950.year, but video is nice :)

  • My Dad was living there until he fled the Russian occupation. Never had a chance to come home. He told me what it was like during that time. A very proud city. Very proud people. I'm only part Latvian but I hold that close to my heart.

  • The cities in the Russian Empire were always full of proud intelligent people...when bolsheviks came they destroyed everything...Latvians supported revolutions killed the tsar and raised the bolsheviks themselfes...as result of mass terror government came to us..

  • This is lies... Latvians didn,t kill tsar it was russians themselves. only part of latvians suported bolsheviks they where about 40 000 it is small number you shit hool.... Ok, those 40 000 fuck almoust all of your oponents, but it is not latvians foult that russians ir couwards not god soldiers...

  • not all russian suported bolsheviks

  • Dievs, svētī Latviju!

  • Great music, love it. The vid is superb, great old views!! Thanks a lot!

  • great!!!! i like this video! and gregorian fits perfectly

  • ya europe will be in 30 years muslim, asians or black.. and why in now days building lame box houses.why they dont build like in old times.

  • good old europe. too bad the allies led europe and it's ancient culture too destruction. :( i miss those times, the beauty of so many european cities like riga is lost forever :(

but europa is lost anyway, in 30 years western europe will be muslimic.

  • europe has never bn so flourishing as it is now.used to be place for fratricide and treason 19-20 centuries, now it's calm, peaceful and vibran continent.we still have peacekeepers n balkans, but compare this to situation n europe 100 years ago.europe was always diverse, never heaven for some particular religion (think of diversity of christians and persecutions).european culture has roots in muslim culture too, think of greek philosphy, cordoba, algebra, abstract thinking, architecture, music.

  • Well yes but the Soviets didn't have any style, for example, the city of Narva, was a growing city with only estonians, it had a beautiful big old town, then was the battle of Narva, people left but the walls of houses were still standing, it could've been built up but no, the soviets built typical block houses and demolished the old town, only remaining house was the town hall. Now there are typical soviet apartment houses and russians there. Same happened to Tartu and many other cities.

  • The history of Soviet occupation of Baltic states is indeed apalling and shameful history. Russia should of course recognize the fact of occupation. But even that occupation was a result Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, so a by-product of agressive and expansionist Nazi Germany strategy. Hence Nazi Germany was also to blame for everything, which happened to Estonia after 1939...

  • Nazi Germany didn't rule in Baltics after WW2, they lost, Soviet Union however did rule here and they did nothing to save hundreds of years of history and traditions.

  • Do you really think there as money around after WW2 to rebuild old towns in Europe...? Even the UK build concrete blocks as a quick solutions to war damaged regions.

  • civil houses are not to be destroyed to begin with.

  • wow! its - nothin else metters :) but i was thinked that this is song of mettalica :)

  • Riga, my love ;)

  • Thx, Sampolit!

    Bro from Latvia!

  • First time feel proud of Riga. Didn't know that it used to be so beautifull. Nowadays its just russian trash can...shit place...

  • Most Estonian do not know about Narva - this city used to be as beautiful as Riga and Tallinn with an unique Swedish old town. Narva was destroyed in 1944 completely, only 2 unique buildings survived the carpet-bombardment - Estonian Dresden.

  • Yeah, in Latvia we have Jelgava. Same story, almoust all was destryed in soviet bombings, no it is ugly city.

  • Stupid english, letiņi rullē!

  • The biggest respect to Sampolit!!!
