  • I attended my first ever salsa class last night and it was so fast I wanted to research the steps. I've found this video brilliant for slowing it down and allowing me time to get to grips with it. Addicted 2 Salsa - brilliant! Thank you x

  • Thank you very much dude you know, I've learned a lot from your vids. Best teacher on youtube - you're breaking it down from basic to advanced with clear and simple instructions. I think Im feeling a bit cheeky so Im going to make the girl(s) turn all the time so I can check out her butts LOL. But no seriously Im loving salsa.

  • this video on how to salsa for beginners is perfect if ur a beginner whatch this before any other thxs

  • that opening song wasnt really salsa it was more merengue

  • WELL,I REALY LEARNED SOME STEPS SO I THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING,THANKS VERY MUCH

  • you guys are awesome! i recently moved to costa rica and wanted to learn to salsa. your videos are the best tutorials!

  • So this is Salsa !!! I think I created Acid Salsa, but am not sure...

  • thank you.. I just had an omg moment and figured out what I was doing wrong!

  • Very good. Thanks for slowing it down in order to do the steps.

  • Your basic step. - Putting your feet together on 3 and on 7 will create a "bobbing" effect. It will not create a smooth look. 3 an 7 should overlap and not together.

  • You need to redo this video and wear light colored pants against the dark background that you have. How do you expect people so see what your legs are doing?

  • oh brillaint, thanks :) i just wish I could have a sexy latino guy to dance it with... mmm :)

  • We love his lesson. But the background of this video is too dark to see the footwork clearly. There is too much background noise. Other than that, he is great teacher.

  • what high school did you graduate?

  • Great VID guys thanx alot from australia!!!

  • Wow, You did such a good Job, Wonderful Video!!!!!

You explain very well, Im working as Dance Teacher for BallroomLatin in Berlin... Excus my Bad English..

    Kind regards from Berlin

  • Okay I feel like an idiot, but why are you always standing at right angles. I am a total newbie, is this how partners stand in a dance situation? Or is it for demonstration purposes? Maybe might bear mentioning for us total idiots?

  • @wordgrrl71 couples don't actually dance like this, its so you can see the moves from the front (Anthony) and from the side (stephanie), giving you two angles.

  • thank you

  • Tank you for posting this video!

  • exelent work

  • very well explained.Good work !

    Thanks

  • This is a good lesson. I have to do this for pe. Its good!

  • OTO QUE NO SABE NI LO QUE HACE

  • nice :)

  • Good lesson! Im going to practice then I will try it on the salsa club.

    Thanks!

  • Wicked man!

    Keep the good work Up!

  • supercool

  • wtf nice job wearing black pants

  • bara neyekkkkkkkkkkkkkkk =)

  • I really liked the video. I like to dance and recommend it to anyone wishing to learn

  • In my salsa class they went back first, and no forward step.

  • Well.... if you are a female, you wouldn't actually be stepping forward first... and you wouldn't be stepping with your left foot either.

Since you are mirrored with your partner, you would be stepping backwards with your right foot as HE steps forward with his left. I'm surprised he is having the girl do the same step and not pointing out that this is NOT the same for both partners.

  • really good, but the room is too dark, we can't clearly see every move

  • Awesome video! My dance partners thank you dearly :)

  • Very good, I learned alot, Thanks

  • q pedo

  • BRAVOOO!!! AWESOME VIDEO!! 5 stars

  • SALSA = SABER PASOS + SABOR

  • U guys are great teachers & dancers! :)Thank u!

  • para bailar Salsa lo unico que se necesita es sabor y eso es algo que se logra sintiendo la musica por todo el cuerpo.

  • coordinacion y habilidad como un putas querra decir.

  • whats the song called that they played in the beginning of the video ??

  • Oro solido - La tanga roja

  • It is getting me 'addicted to salsa' alright :D

  • Thanks, I especially liked the commentary on the guys leading bit. For me, i find it frustrating when the guy is a poor leader. a lot of guys i have danced with, suddenly change moves without indicating or giving me a nudge. the perpendicula block is a good method. Prevent me from spining. Mucho Gracias.

  • i dnt know how to dance prom in 1week wtf do i doo!!!

  • what´s the song in the beginning?? the first song we hear? thanks! i really want it! :)

  • with those black pants i cant see ur legs!!!!:(

  • cómo se llama la cancion del inicio?? o sea la de la presetnación del video!!! gracias! :D

  • Finally! Thanks to this video, I'm finally able to understand how to turn & when to raise the arms!

  • this helped me so much!

    i love the salsa :D

  • You guys are great! Thank you!

  • Anthony,

Are the dance moves the same for On1 and NY On2? Essentially, if I'm watching a couple dance but I mute the music, I should not be able to tell whether they are dancing ON1 or NY ON2. On1 vs NY On2 only comes into play when considering music? I do NY ON2 and want to dance ON1 (visiting FL), does that mean all I have to do is shift my movements 1 beat down - do my 2-3 on beats 1-2? Basically, purposely dance off beat (I'm not implying ON1 is off beat or anything). I hope that was clear.

  • I guess it is the same as driving, singing, playing an instrument, running, writing, drawing, cooking, speaking a language or moving a computer mouse HUH? Those all require motors skills. I guess YOU are stating that those skills are genetic?

You should know that the human brain is engineered by nature to be adaptive in learning new abilities and actions. If it were not, you would not have had the coordination to type on a computer keyboard when writing that uninspiring and thoughtless message

  • I love this response... very decently, you just informed this person of how far his/her ignorance reaches!

  • Thanks, I live in a Hollywood Florida and just getting started...I appreciate your help...It's well done! Enjoy watching Latinos dancing & like to learn it my self...really cool! All the best for everybody!

  • @apersaud very creative with the serious burn you gave that ignorant person :p good one apersaud :)

  • yea..right...my boyfriend's american...and he knows how salsa... i think everybody can learn...salsa is cool ..

  • I'm Practicing your moves at home, i know nothing but what ive seen when i go out with friends but this video makes me feel very confident in learning salsa thank you

  • Have been ballroom dancing 30 years and though we'ed try salsa . your video is excellent +10 Thanks

  • really great, but it's kinda hard to practice the turns while watching the screen. Some demonstration of the basics with some music would have been really great.

  • Best for sure! GREAT instruction!

  • I need to know why this guy always skips "four" :)

  • because counts 4 and 8 are pauses in the music and steps...

  • Hi, I will be a beginner soon

  • I'll be a beginner soon! =)

can somebody tell me a good band for me listen to while I practise my talent? =)

  • grupo niche is good.. :)

  • omg the song called "No Le Pege A La Negra" is a good song to start off from practicng ! :D

  • gran combo

  • Me too :p

  • nice!!!!!!!!! just gets u moving in all the right places!

  • I'm also a white boy. Is it wrong to learn Salsa for the primary purpose of seducing a beautiful Latina? I really don't enjoy dancing, I just enjoy Latin girls (like candy to a kid or blood to a vampire, my god, they're beautiful.)

  • No it is not. That's probably one of the main reasons a lot of guys learn to dance (and end up VERY happy in the end)! :-)

  • actually, you'd be surprised how girls will take to you when they know you can dance like that.

    keep at it!

  • Its not wrong cuz..it will be wrong if you dont learn..cause once you do learn and the groove...latin girls will rain on you....trust me...

  • If there's hope for me SteveyB-UK, then there's hope for any & everybody.

And that story is 100% true but not meant to offend, just thought some might find it entertaining. Good luck! ;>

  • this vid is really helpful! thanks! lol

  • thank you so much for these videos. I had my first ever salsa lesson last week and really enjoyed it.

  • I'm a 6'6 & 275 bro from the Carib who can barely dance a lick.

A while back I took a date to salsa night giving it go. I was so bad that a Latina sister next to me left her date briefly tried to get me in line, grabbing my hips saying "stopping dancing like a white boy!" Real talk, embarassing but still funny.

Been scared since until I saw your video. Gonna try, hopefully won't get screamed on again.

    Gracias mi hermano!

  • Good god that's the funniest comment I've seen in a long time! haha hope you "got it" after a while bro! :-)

  • i am a white boy! Is there any hope for me? :-)

  • Well, like for hundreds of others. Skin colour doesn't matter in here.

  • i know, i just meant it to be taken lightheartedly.

  • this video is so much more helpful with the hand explanation. thanks!;)

  • Sorry for the comment below - might be confusing. This is salsa On1 (or also known as LA Style in some parts of the US).

  • you know what, this lesson was much help than the others. You talk about how the arm should be because I wasn't sure, thank you for that. I am a beganner and I enjoy this.

    Karen

  • great tutorial, thanx!

  • oh man that was really good!

  • i just got a girlfriend that likes to dance... but i actually feel that i´m gonna die trying. (i`m kinda stupid that way)

    i hope this helps.. :)

  • Keep it up. I'm sure that she will appreciate you learning for her (score points). Also, I can tell you that once you start, and get a grasp of it - you will love it more than she does! :-)

  • my dad has to leeet me learn this crap lol hahahhahahaha

  • flipa, flipa, jilipollas, para las chavales es acojonante.

  • please is that anyone know that which style is that?Los Angeles or Salsa la Cubana

  • This is known as Puerto Rican style, Mambo On2, Salsa On2 or NY Mambo. (same name for the same style). We are from San Diego, CA.

  • you would know more of course, but this looks like its LA style on1 to me. i took some lessons and learned exactly what you taught, great video too, one of the best for beginners.

  • I'm not sure how i wrote that comment above (I must have confused the video, but you are correct - before I used to dance LA Style On1 as in this video).

The newer videos I dance the intro on2 (MamboSalsa On2).

  • excellent job.

  • I'm new to salsa and found this very helpful.

    Nice demo!

  • Please don't encourage the leads to pull and push the ladies around. It's a bad habit and very unpleasant to dance with. A good lead can lead through the legs and that is what prevents toes from getting stepped on.

  • How exactly do you lead with your legs??

  • If the lead can simply move the legs before the body then the partner can easily follow without the use of arms to push and pull. The arms act as a connection but the dance is in the legs and feet.

  • True, but seeing as you don't want to look at your feet all the time, is it more proximity, direction your body is facing, direction of travel?

  • If you are in dance hold with your partner you can feel where the feet go even with your eyes closed by the changing of weight. If the lead moves the body first you can not feel where the weight is. Try it.

  • Yeah ur right but she's kinda right too. The point is to use the hands lightly. It's not solely the feet but I think her point is that some guys use their hands to yank the ladies around too much. It should be very subtle. just my opinion.

  • Cool! Does anyone know who and what the artist and song was from the opening?

  • The group name is Oro Solido... The title, I believe is "La Tanguita Roja"

  • dang! I feel like I can dance now! Thanks for the helpful lessons! you guys are the best. Now I won't look like I'm dancing with two left feet (stepping on my lady's toes all the time).

  • Excellent video! Keep them coming

  • Anthony and Stephanie, you guys are awesome. Please keep up the good work. apersaud thanks for upload.

  • I hate it when someone insults people...I think Anthony has done a great job. I am latino, and I had an accident at age 14, so by age 18, when everybody danced salsa, merengue and others, i was getting to re-learn how to run on my two legs again, so i can't dance. If not for people like anthony and these videos on youtube, i wouldn't have any dancing skills, and go to clubs with girls and just be the guy with burns and scars they pity and reject.

  • wow...difficult! i've already been confused X0

  • lol now my comment is rated -6 and i still suck xD

  • Someone must b desperate...

  • Si Su Puede.Excellent

  • thanks pal, today was my first Salsa dance class, you're video is AWESOME and a great contribution to Jackass Society ;-) -- Kidding, I'm a big fan of your videos :)

  • that's very good basics... put them to my Salsa Basics Top10. thx

  • Awesome video. I thought it was very clear and very helpful. Thank you much!

  • rhd75, can you make a vid for salsa beginner lesson. You sounds so professional and I wound like to learn from your moves :)

  • sound*

  • Find more videos of salseros performance on _salsaland.tv_

  • Donde estas la salsa de Puerto Rico

  • en puerto rico jajaja

  • ppl should stop doing bad coments at least he made a video of salsa for ppl to learn and on top of that he uploaded it. so before u start mouthing off jus wait and wander wat he actually did

  • oh cmon.. this is a video for beginners.. if you try to tell a beginner about weight transfer on 4 and 8 they're gonna be as lost as a mole on a black womans ass.. i think the explanation has to be simple.. once they get it you change it.. and yeah feet dont come together man... but then again.. its just for beginners..

  • So as not to be entirely unconstructive, I think one of the nicest explanations of the basic step can be found on Edie (the Salsa Freak)'s latest DVD series, specifically her "Salsa Syllabus 101-103" disc. It's not perfect but probably as good as you're going to get.

  • I can SO not be bothered to get into a flame war with a bunch of ppl who are just learning, so insult me all you want. The 4th and 8th beats are not pauses, they are used for a weight transfer. Anyone who tells you beat 4 is a pause either does not understand salsa or needs to review their didactic methods.I get that the tradition in some places is to bring the feet together on 3, I just think it looks bad.The Cuban motion by the gentleman is poor or non-existent, so I stand by that comment too.

  • Please ignore the boorish behavior of some commenters. My wife and I have learned a lot from you, and are having lotsa fun learning. Thank you for your service to the Web community, guys.

  • This is possibly the worst demonstration of the basic step that I've ever seen. Firstly he is not passing the stationary foot with his moving foot on 3 and 7, but worst of all, he is making the "freezing on 4 (and 8)" error. Absolutely horrible, stiff, and ugly... Apart from that, this guy's Cuban motion sucks donkey balls.

  • hater

  • salsa taste good but what does this have to do with sauce for my tortilla chips?

  • hey good stuff. but where are lessons 1-4

  • wow great job teaching you're a wonderful teacher hope you got more salsa videos or maybe merengue videos on how to dance.

  • I wish I could have seen your feet---there was no contrast between you and the background.

  • 1,2,3..5,6,7??

    i thought it goes 1,2,3..4,5,6

missing number 4 there buddy but good try

i'll give you an A for effort

  • The 4 and the 8 are pauses. So the stepping counts are 1,2,3 .. (4 is a pause)..5,6,7.. (8 pause).

1,3,5,7 are the hits of the cowbell

2 and 6 are the hits of the tumbao or conga.
