  • Cant remember if it woz 91 or 92 but i saw a gig at wembley arena wiv the roses, 808, carpets, candy flip ( basically the cream of the music world at the time) and im from kent. but im sure these wer there. i woz up in the side wings and the floor space woz a heaving mass of baggy jeans and coloured tops wiv a cloud of puff hanging above them. best gig eva. this is one of my top tunes from manchester

  • @scott90201 A MADCHESTER DIP SHIP DJ(UNITE)MC X

  • @scott90201 I'm sure your right mate.I've got a tape kicking about with all those acts on it from wembley arena think it was recorded for radio 1.I'm sure James were on the bill that night as well.

  • where's can i take at trip?

  • FKN CLASS THIS IS THE REAL GEMS FROM MANCHESTER,MANY PEOPLE DONT EVEN KNOW OR HEARD OF THEM BUT TO ME THESE ARE BY FAR BETTER THAN THE ROSES ALTHOUGH I DO LIKE THE ROSES AND OF COURSE THE INSPIRAL CARPETS AND DONT FORGET CANDY FLIP,WE NEED MORE OF THESE TODAY FORGET YOUR KILLERS ETC THIS IS CLASS THAT SHALL BE LOVED FOR YEARS/DECADES .

  • I love my high school memories :) O-ya

  • AWSOME!

    i love you 1990's

  • Music is great.

  • @william69372 Best comment in the world ever!

  • I was really disappointed when I first heard Northside, I thought they were going to sound a lot more raw and stripped down.Instead they sounded like any other wishy-washy indie popsters.

  • Stop smiling!

  • This is really disappointing. This song is awful. I used to think it was great. Its actually appalling

  • @indyandsam I find your comment appalling.

  • @sergeantbatman You will be

  • CIS Building and Sunley Tower in the background...I'm guessing this was filmed on the roof of the Arndale Tower?

  • so many good memories coming flooding back listening to this! Fantastic.

  • i love this sound...

  • I loved this track - Nice memories

  • I was at their gig in the outskirts of London 1990 and it was amazing. Singer had such a great presence and used the tambourine well which made him look cool.

  • Loved this sound. Madchester was unpolished, honest, natural music. Loved Northside, Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Soup Dragons, Happy Mondays. Come on the North! Grab a guitar, a keyboard, some drums and perhaps a tambourine, we can do this.....!

  • I just uploaded the audio of 'Weight of air'

it's in my videos.. genius song from a genius album! enjoy

  • Takes me back to a time when doing drugs was enjoyable,

  • Comment removed

  • Takes me Back...Brilliant ,They were on the bill at Elland road in 91 with the Mondays ,Are u Manu U......

  • hold tight the stone roses

  • @SonikToooth close kinda this is northside when the roses were just getting started.

  • @kaliyuta This is 1991 and this band formed once the stone roses released their legendary album in 1989.

  • @SonikToooth hmmm ok '89 91' i think those are pretty close, but two great bands.

  • Fokin' 'ell, i've got to stop gettin' drunk and listening to youtube!!!!! This is cool tho innit?

  • top tune... slightly cheesy vid though, tho i wont hear a bad word said about Northside. the 'Take Five' vid has got a bit more bollocks to it i reckon.

  • this is fkin ace. I'd almost forgotten how much I loved the manchester scene in the late eighties early nineties, and this lot were up there with the best.

  • fucking magic!! i was the only person in dundee in 1989 to OWN A NORTHSIDE T SHIRT!!!

i was the dogs bollocks you know!!

    37 now.... fuck me

  • thts my uncle on drums :)

  • I loved this band and especially this track , but that was diminished when I saw them live at Maine Road (Happy Mondays headlining) - I was stoned out of my nut and still thought they sounded shit live. Pity really - after that I dont think I saw of heard of them again.

  • Top bunch of lads who deserved more credit. I've still got Paul's old Pearl drum stool & one of his boom stands, which are featured in this video.......not on a par with a bit of Keith Moon memorabilia, but so fucking what, eh..? ;-)

  • Very much of its time and yet timeless. I'll never grow tired of this song.

  • Love the shot of Dermo dancin with that tamborine and the sun shining behind him...proper mellow!

  • love this ,,where is my lambretta

  • apparently Dermo s (singer) ma was head of CI5 and his dad was a nuclear physisist employed by the Torys his sister was a three day eventer and his brother was an associate in the world famous law team Banks , Springett and Bonetti but they lived in a shithole in Longsight believe it or not

  • Long lost times, I miss them :)

  • i like the song but its a bit cheesy at the end of the vid

  • class indie tune

  • one of the best tracks of the period almost forgotten ...... and thats sad

  • Just got this 12" and I it is one of my favourites alongside Take 5 ! !

  • north side in october 2010 cant wait

  • wot a peachy little tune... these boys werent the roses, but it was good, honest indie music from salt of the earth, workin class lads... with more soul to it than most of the shite knockin about today. still takes me away from them moody places!

  • Great manc band..in the wake of The Roses, Carpets, Mondays, Shall we take a trip is a classic.

  • @bella77a .. well said, great memories.. such a great time for music, every night was a gig.. loved it..

  • Top White Moss / Moston band

  • good shit in it`s day folks !!!! part of my musical youth....on de Lhs...c`mon.

  • Stone Roses tribute act

  • Is this a joke? Simon Cowell's answer on the Happy Mondays?

  • proper boss.

    just been introduced to them.

    qualllittyy

  • GREG M NH MCR 09 YESIIIII

  • Northside never got the recognition they deserved. Awesome band.

  • No, they didn't Mars FM in SoCal played them a lot but not Kroq FM...

  • all gettin' arrested was none too cool but the rest was a day to remember !!!! top.

  • they sound just like the Stone Roses

  • Close, it's certainly the Manchester sound.

  • @xploroar YES FROM MANCHESTER .SUPPORTED THE MONDAYS

  • World Cup - thats when Monday's Step On wo int charts, on radio all time can you believe it Mondays on tele n radio all time. Now what we got- fake so called RnB (never been RnB man), popidols every effin where!!!!!! with their perfect voices, perfect teeth, hair....image bollox!

  • Pipe this through this through Manchester to eradicate all violent crime. Proper, happy tune.

  • weak? Noooooooooooooo, it's great!

  • I love this song, such an underrated band and their music sounds as relevant today as it did when it was released. Love them.

  • i love it

  • Posh? you never been round north manc then?

  • @Bretagneq Eh! I'm proper posh me.

  • Su voz es muy parecida al vocalista de Stone Roses!!!!

  • Over emphasizing the Manc accent.Saw them at Glasgow Barrowlands when they totally forgot all their words.1990 everything revolved around the football. There was 5 of us from Celtic and we ended up giving handers to the Ayr Service Crew as they fought a running battle afterwards with Kilmarnocks mob.

    Personalyy I prefferd Moody Places

  • made me laugh that , giving out handers lol

  • posh mancs ha ha ha...right.

  • lzymot - Your off your head if you think this is better than anything on Second Coming. Ok Second Coming is a totally different to the first album but it still is quality.

  • I don't think the Second Coming is a classic even the Roses would say as much (i thinki evenb Mani has sais they went into the studio hoping to write the songs as they were going along, which proved a mistake).. One of it's problems is that it stands against the classic 1st album, which no album could do.

  • Video was filmed on the only sunny day in manchester in living memory

  • the guitar riff seems to be more taken from the c86 and indie pop scene than the stone roses. could be something out of sarah record

  • long live madchester

  • i agree man, I mean seriously what was happeninmg to create such a great music scene, madchester is underrated in the states

  • Posh mancs, haha

  • Reminds me of being at primary school, junior 4, was a hot summer. Can't beat good old Manchester when the weather's nice like this.

They might be Stone Roses ripoffs but this kills anything on the Second Coming.

  • Yeah i know the Summer of 90, World Cup an all that.

  • beautiful manchester!!!! yes !! fucking great city!

    i love manchester......xxx!!

    love from spain (madrid)

  • the songs are decent but there really just a third rate version of the stone roses.

  • I never heard this before, and it look´s really great. How wonderful the sound of Manchester was in these days, although i´m a southern boy.

  • very nice song!

  • I liked it at the time - but I can now see it's proper shite - then again it always was shite compared to what ws going on at the time - best thing about Northside was Granada Soccer Night.

  • wow granada soccer night.....now theres a blast from the past.....yeah they did the theme tume........howsoon we forget.......nice 1 mate........saw these at parr hall warrington.......had the grey t-shirt with the apple on it.....

  • Hi,

I really love this song, but im from Hungary, and i cant understand all of the lyric.

Can somebody type or copy the text here?

    I havent found it...

    Thanks a lot!

  • shut up you cock

  • throw yourself of fucking bridge like that knob !!!

  • amen to that haha

  • one of manchesters finest.

  • what a foookin tune good old days

  • Cannot hear the hot bass line from reheasral documentary

  • not sure thats on this version, i was in a bar in worcester recently and put this song on the juke box, was a different version came on and sounded more like that one than this one here

  • The Doves stuff is quite clearly ripped off from Northside.

    You cant copy quality, fellas

  • i disagree all these guys copied the crap out of the british invasion bands of the sixties...if your gonna copy copy perfection

  • tunes are tunes . you can inetvertedly copy your influences without knowing it , but in the end you are doing something you love . and what comes ourt is what comes out .

  • you misunderstood. i'm a huge fan but the fact remains the madchester scene was kinda derivative. what makes it so great is that they bit the greats, you know?

  • what a load of bolloks, doves have been going as long as northside, both quality bands. it's like saying northside ripped off the stone roses!!!!

  • @outfirstball I was kinda talking about the hollies ...

  • Nice video, Manchester doesn't look like that very often. It must have been filmed on top of the CIS Tower.

  • this is terrible

  • you're a tool

  • squirehorse, you're a tool

  • i was there in heart pity steve and robo missed this,M9

  • Quality tune, did anyone notice it on Hollyoaks the other night.

  • cool tune

  • Surely Northside's best song and one of the best songs ever made!

  • MADchester Scene Rules!!!

  • wtf?

  • Wow iv never seen the videos before just listened to the album, i bought chicken rythyms 17 years ago and lost it, cost me 40 quid to replace last year

  • money well spent though, eh friend??!!!

  • anyone seen cliff these days? i was jamming with him a few year ago he asked me for 3 quid for a bottle of cider!!! ha ha

  • Amazing video, i went to school with dermo :) lived round the corner I think he still lives there with his mum lol

  • Great!

  • jolizcar, i could'nt agree more with your comment!! those were heady days for music! met northside backstage at the brit awards 1990 and they were listening to the WEDDING PRESENT, another class band!

  • Oh my god

Northside...total flashback of baggy jeans and havin a total time of it xxxx

Waltzin round Afflecks Palace tryin to be cool x

    Shit.... those were the days

    Thanks Northside x

    Jo x

  • what you on about jrsheepy ? Northside formed in 89.... Stone Roses had been around for years before that. Think before you type please.

  • Comment removed

  • Number 1 never happened, but fairplay Dermo!!

Shall we take a trip??? lol

  • Northside were around before the stone roses last band to be signed to factory records bit of respect wouldn't go a miss

  • Great tune, can't help but think they were just another wanna be stone roses. Even the video is Roses-esque. Only Oasis have made it as a manc band trying to emmulate the stones.

  • This makes me wanna live in Manchester

  • Never cut out for stardom that fella was he! Thanks for uploading, brought back many memories of my long gone youth.

  • Nice one class tune

  • candy club studioes bristol

  • Great tune NOT included on my vinyl! Bought it in 1992 and haven't listened to it for years along with another 1992 record; Yes Please! (and I know Chicken Rhythms was released in 1991). Took both records out of my record collection today and I must admit..Northside was funky shit! Cool beats, great guitars, groovy bass and nice eeenglish vocal! Off to see My Bloody Valentine in Manchester on the 29th. of June, maybe there's a chance to see Northside?shall stay 5 nights in Manchester!

  • I'd to make you mine,

    You know who you are,

    you're my rising star!

  • remember sitting on moston fields northside on the stereo bottle of joe and plenty of acid ha they were the days nice one dermo and the boys even still got my red ns cap

  • CUTE..LOL
