A cheetah is able to accelerate to its top speed from a rolling start (normal running) in two strides.

A cheetah usually does not ambush & sprint from nought to full speed like a jaguar does to make a kill. It takes somewhere from three to five seconds to accelerate to topspeed, which is still rediculously quick for an animal & quicker than most fast accelerating road cars. It would not take a cheetah three seconds to take just two strides!

I'm sure a cheetah doing nose dive will probably achieve the same speed. The perigrine falcon doesn't make any effort, just aerodynamic engineering. The cheetah on the other hand, achieves its speed by incredible synchronization and effort. The cheetah wins in my opinion.
