  • He is my favorite author.Sex,gore,crazyness.I love him.Fuck the haters.

  • Here's my impression of every Laymon novel ever.

"As the psychotic, naked killer stood over us,ready to strike with his axe, I couldn't help but notice how hot Tina's breast looked in that shirt."

  • @Leatherbubba Your impression is way off.

Laymon's body of work has more diversity and depth than 'psychotic killers and big breasted bimbos' you should read his Beast House novels and his short stories to witness his vast imagination. Laymon was a Splatterpunk writer so maybe he was too much for you *shrugs* Laymon wrote a certain type of story and he knew what was expected of him from his fans. He wrote more real world horrors than paranormal.

  • @Leatherbubba If he was such a junky writer why would King and Ketchum endorse him and why did he receive numerous awards? Also which of his novels have you read? Maybe his style and stories aren't your cup of tea.

    Peace.

  • @EndlessLaymon I like Laymon, but come on. He has his cliches just like alot of other writers.

  • @Leatherbubba Yeah he has trademarks and maybe a cliché or two but you can't just describe all his writing as''As the psychotic, naked killer stood over us,ready to strike with his axe, I couldn't help but notice how hot Tina's breast looked in that shirt." Like that sums up all of his novels. You can't boil his novels down to that one sentence.

    Peace.

  • @EndlessLaymon Jokes require exaggeration. It was mainly about how hilarious I found it that the main character in "Island" constantly sexualy objectifies the female characters, no matter what happens.

  • @Leatherbubba Oh, got you. Still that was a damn good book.

  • Thanks for posting This...he was the greatest writer PERIOD...!!!

  • Richard Laymon is the best author who ever lived. Rest in peace Mr. Laymon, and thank you for scaring the shit out of me book after book

  • Best Writer ever! R.i.p. Legend

  • Richard Laymon actually inspired me, about a year ago, to start writing. I absolutely love it and him. The man—even in his death—saved me. Thank you, Richard. May you rest upon a cloud.

  • I remember reading "Cuts" for my grade 9 book report, needless to say it was an awkward presentation.

  • Thats it, 1 more Laymon book to get and my collection is complete. No! How i wish i could read them all over again for the first time, just getting into John Steinbecks letters and wondered if anyone has any of Mr Laymons letters to his editors or fans they wanna share or trade?

  • <3 Richard Laymon so much. Favorite being Night in The Lonesome October and The Beast House series but I love them all. RIP

  • Has anyone else realised that they don't stock him in WHSmith anymore?

Have looked in several and can't find him :(

  • It's very nice to see this! I was Dick's friend for a number of years, and also had the honor of introducing him to the woman (Ann) who was to become his wife! His novel BITE was dedicated to me.

  • Richard Laymon is an amazing author! Check out an interview of him on my channel.

  • Koontz and King take upto 100 pages to get you into the story ,but with Laymon you are dragged in at the very 1st page. I have read 15 of his novels and my favs are Island ,Savage ,Body Rides and also Quake and The Midnight Tour. I cant understand why many of these have not been made into movies....

  • i've just recently started reading novels in this genre, and been reading koontz and stephen king, i've also read the beast house trilogy and savage and i must say as good as the others are they just don't compare to this guy.

    RIP - GENIUS

  • Cool video! I came across this while trying to find the Jeopardy clip.

    Kelly Laymon

  • I loved the Beast House Trilogy. I just finished The woods are dark... creepy gross brilliant! atm I'm reading Out are the lights.. loving it!

  • I read "Come Out Tonight" a while ago and really enjoyed it. This summer I got hooked on Laymon's novels. I read his books at work mostly, which is cool, because I work the overnight shift guarding a warehouse (It can get pretty creepy.). I'm currently re-reading "Vampire Show," which is tied with "Into the Fire" (aka "Glory Bus") as my favorite. I know he's not big here in the U.S., but I love his work.

  • Laymon was, still is,and always will be the daddy !I miss his books terribly

  • the best novelist that ever lived... i ADORE his books,, a tragedy he died so young . The Beast House books are the best imo

  • The first true horror novels I read were of laymons, and honestly he is awesome!

  • Now I'm reading "Endless Night" :)

Slowly making it's way toward my favorite book hahah

  • richard laymon is an amazing writer so far iv'e read , darkness tells us , the midnight tour, ressurection dreams, im currently reading one rainy night about half way through it , it is awesome im looking to get all of his books

  • i read his book 'The Beast House' and i looooved it! i'm gonna read the cellar next, even though i should have that first

  • ... just yesterday and I may wait until I get The Cellar to begin the book. I know it's a trilogy, so I would rather start from the VERY beginning lol. He is fucking awesome and his story-telling skill is unforgettable!

    R.I.P. Richard Laymon

  • Richard Laymon makes Stephen King look sad in his books, in my opinion hahah.

He is 100% my favorite author! I've read The Woods Are Dark and I'm about to finish Darkness, Tell Us. I bought The Beast House...

  • Completely agree with everyone in saying that Laymon is outstanding in horror writing. I have read about a dozen or so of his books and never have I been let down. It all started with Night in the lonesome October and hasn't stopped since. I just started Beware and Cuts. Someone needs to do an adapt to a movie with something of his because the books are just too good.

  • I was also wondering if there has been any films made from his books

  • @Nikkimorox1 There was low budget adaptation of In The Dark, it was shown at a few festivals. You can try to find it on bootleg but it is hard to come by.

  • My first Laymon book i read was Endless Nigh and is still 1 of my favourites by him, i was only 14 but became a huge fan straight away and have lost count of the amount of books ive read by him since :)

  • I just bought his book Darkness, Tell Us and I LOVE it. Very absorbing and quite creepy. I'm definantly going to look for another. Anyone have any suggestions? Btw, what is this song?

  • @MrWildboy94 Laymon's Beast House novels are always thought of as some of his best by fans. Island is great novel as is Body Rides, but my favourite is Night In The Lonesome October.

The music is the Phantasm II theme and the last piece of music is the Hellraiser theme, I originally used Voices by Disturbed but I got in shit from the fuckers knows as WMG.

    Hope this helps.

  • @EndlessLaymon I love night in the lonesome october and am currently reading body rides. I have to say my all time favorite laymon book has to be the travelling vampire show since it was my first.

  • Was best horror writer ever, followed by Dean Koontz.

  • thanks for the video i love laymon i agree that he is criminally unpopular, funland and night in the lonesome october are my favourites

  • my last name is laymon weird???

  • My last name is laymon ???

  • GO BEAST HOUSE!

  • RIP mr laymon, only halfway through my first book but already wish you were still alive writing more.......

  • I haven't read many of Richard's books (6 or 7) you guys are way bigger fans, most of his content is too disturbing to be sold to the main stream public in film format. I did an assignment years ago where we had to turn a book into a movie pitch and write a story board. I chose Endless showing where the heroin's friend gets impailed by the spear and carried down the hall and the end scene where Simon is about to rape the heroin. I'm sure the teacher thought I was seriously fucked up lol.

  • i have read almost all of his books and i think to make them into movies you would have to edit most of the story out as you most of his work is pretty sick and anyway using your own imagination is more fun because the chosen actors are never what u imagined them to be ie stephen kings IT, bad casting great story!!!!

  • Nice vid very interesting, it always amazed me how writers like Dean Koontz and Stephanie Mayers can sell millions and Richard Laymon went largely unnoticed. I think he needed one of his books made in to film, to increase his profile. Would Stephen King be as successful if Brian de Palma had not made Carrie or Kubrick made The Shinning.

  • Thanks for the comment.

I completely agree about Meyer how that whole series sold more than four hundred is beyond me. I do like Koontz I really enjoy is earlier stuff, Phantoms was great in my opinion but his new stuff is always hit and miss.

Regarding King, Carrie was a runaway success so they made a film, if Im honest I do think the movies have helped the great man out, but I still believe he would still be a famous success, but yes I think the movies have boosted his popularity,

  • but yet there is more bad adaptations than good.

I think a decent movie form Layamons work would help him out, because he is till criminally unknown, yet he is a fantastic writer who deserves more recognition.

Once again thanks for the comment and take care.

    All the best to you.

  • @EndlessLaymon No i wasnt saying that Dean Koontz is not a good writer just not any better than Richard Laymon, I really liked Intensity and Watchers, i just think its a shame that Laymon has not been recognised better, but i feel privileged that am one of the few to have discovered his stuff. For me the Travelling Vampire Show is one of my favourite ever horror novels. Richard Laymon and Richard Matheson are my two favourite horror authors.

  • Oh, I completely agree that Laymon is a better writer Koontz; its just you had Koontz mentioned with Meyer and well Meyer sucks, Koontz on the other hand is in my opinion a very great writer, sadly I havent read Watchers or Intensity yet, I plan to as I immensely enjoy his early stuff most of his new stuff is sup-bar to his earlier better works..

I do think Laymon should be more popular and .

  • it always nice t meet fellow fans even though our numbers are small, but at least Laymon is getting more recognition. Oh I love TTVS it was a great read I went through that book so fast I was sure my copy would set on fire.

    Take care.

  • The first Laymon book I read was "Beware!" and it was by far the best novel I've picked up in years. Honestly, I couldn't put the fecker down :)

    R.I.P Richard Laymon

  • Thanks for the comment.

If you enjoyed Beware (it is a lesser Laymon novel) I would recommend, Island , Travelling Vampire Show and the entire Beast House chronicles, even though the fourth one is short it is still a good read.

    Take care.

  • hes been a favourite author of mine for 11 years now - the only author i like in the horror genre. vastly underated.

  • Apart from that, he downright kicks ass.

  • Yes Laymon does indeed kick ass.

  • Now dont get me wrong I really like Richard Laymons style of writing, but I just have two problems with his novels.

    1. I think he always releis too much on sexual assualts because in nearly every book of his that I have read, there is always one rapist orr another.

    2. I think some of his romances and sex scenes are just downright ridiclous, I mean in The Woods Are Dark, Two people have sex on the front porch of someones house surronded by severed heads and some of the savages watching them.

  • I think the sexual assaults are there for shock value, I noticed that as well but I never thought they were gratuitous or he was glamorising it in any way, and it made you hate the villains even more when they are doing sickening acts to the characters you like.

I can see your point about the romance in his novels but I never thought it was done in a shitty way, and you have to admit people act kind of crazy when they are in love or horny.

Thanks for the comment and take care.

  • True about your comment ton the sexual assualt thing, but I really do think at times he should of gone for something a little diffrent, because in a while it, as much as I am ashamed to say it, gets a bit repetitive after a while.

  • You opinion about Laymons frequent use of sexual assault (Christ I hope YouTube dont take down my vid due to this conversation LOL) is the main criticism against his work, it never bothered me but I do know where you are coming from and on a small scale I too thought he could have used something else, but it never bothered me like I said.

  • And I dont feel you have to be ashamed, least you can admit it unlike some hardcore fans who cant say anything bad against their interest (like for example Star Wars fans who cant admit the it has some bad dialogue and Lucas cant write for shit) sorry kind f went off topic

Thanks for the comment take care, pal.

  • I just like to say one more thing as we're both metal fans, have you ever listened to raining blood by slayer whilst reading Richard Laymons 'one rainy night' It is a very fitting mix, to say the least.

  • I enjoy that song, I dont really listen to music when I read, I did listen to Alice Cooper CD Super Hits nonstop when I first read IT, so I cant even listen to Stolen Prayer without thinking of that masterpiece.

I did listen to some Disturbed once when I was reading a Laymon I think Voices sums up his work pretty well.

Once again thanks for the comment and take care.

  • Awesome tribute, at the moment I am reading a copy of Richard Laymons "Dreadful tales" another Laymon classic.

  • My favourite story from that collection would either be Stickman or Dracuson's Driver.

  • Dreadful Tales in my opinion is his second best collection after Fiends which contains the greatest short story I have ever read, the story being A Good Secret Place, no wonder that story was nominated for the Stoker award.

  • Poor George, lol.

  • Yeah, Lol.

George was a cool kid though.

  • 1. Island

    2. Endless Night

    3. Come Out Tonight

My favourite 3 there! Can anybody tell me if any of Richard Laymon's books have, or will be made into a film?

  • blood games was the first adult book i ever read when i was 12 or 13 i think, was hooked after that.i miss looking in bookstore for a steve crisps (i think) covers and laymons name.

  • My first Laymon book was Come Out Tonight, I was also thirteen, and after that reading Laymon became something of an addiction.

I was upset when I discovered he had died a few years before.

I also miss seeing his books in shops

All they have now are this shitty omnibus where it has a couple of his books in there.

It is shame that he sadly passed away, he had such a great style and his books were always entertaining to read.

    Take care.

  • My first was in the dark, can't get much more riveting for a first time laymon reader then that book.

  • i've a question:

i've been looking around on youtube and can't find any interviews of laymon--are the any?

p.s. great video. love laymon and appreciate you getting the word out with this video. very well done. and the music is awesome! :D

  • There is a video interview on The Dark Dreamers DVD box set.

I'm glad you like the video, and yes I do feel the music is perfect for the video.

    Take care.

  • I read Traveling Vampire Show and was hooked!

  • I would recommend that to any reader new to Laymon.

That book desereved the Stoker award.

    The book was fantastic.

  • Island is a phenomenal laymon book.

  • Yes I feel that is one of his greats, the book is one hell of gripping read.

  • Nice video. Laymom is one of my favourite authors. His characters are so believable that you really care about them. Then Bam! Bad shit happens to them and you just hope that they make it through okay. The first Laymon I read was Dreadful Tales and I loved it, so I bought Night in the Lonesome October--hell of a good book--and for a while I was reading his books back to back. Then I found out he was dead. What a loss.

  • I think you mean that the teacher did not behave as you would have done, but in real life we are all individuals and behave differently in any given situation & good writers like Laymon create characters that mirror this fact. The girl in Come Out Tonight didn't go running and screaming for help but, for example, in real life do all rape victims report the crime? They do not. In 2003 only 38.5% of rapes and sexual assaults were reported to the police.

  • I just discovered him this year and I've only read one book of him yet but I loved it. It was the book Night in the Lonesome October. It was amazing and I'm sure I'm gonna read more books of him again. I love his writing style and I don't know why I haven't discovered him before. But better late than never...

  • read the beast house books they are awesome

  • thanks for the suggestion. I will do. So far I've only read Night in lonesome October and now I'm reading No Sanctuary. Amazing books so I will read the beast house books later:) I'm just amazed that I haven't heard of Laymon before. Better late than never haha!

    Greetings from Norway.

  • Much underrated writer. I love the simplicity of his writing. Certainly less is more.

  • my favourite author!

  • laymon is te best author ever lonesome october is my favorte book of all time

  • Very well done

  • Been a fan since he first started writing. And have read everything he has written. He was well loved here in the UK and his books flew off the shelves. The jackets now are lame ( no pun intended ) The initial covers were stunning with foil style lettering. I have em all and Very proud of them. Flesh is my personal fave book by him.

  • Also this music by Fred Myrow for PHANTASM as fucking superb.

  • Lol, thank you. And thanks for the comment.

  • I have read sooo many of his books, but I'm once again readig the beast house chronicles,I think they have to be my favourite, but it is realllllly hard to choose a favourite of laymons coz they're all so damn good!!!

  • Blimey, shame on me for only just discovering Richard Laymon! I've only recently discovered him - I bought my first of the Beast House chronicles from a work's charity book sale for 25p! I'm currently reading Friday Night in Beast House and am sooo glad I've found this writer and I love his style so much. No messing around, he gets right to the point. Very believable stories and fabulous characters make for such an entertaining read. I keep hassling my boyfriend to get around to reading them!

  • Night in the Lonesome October and The Traveling Vampire Show reign supreme as two of the greatest, most atmospheric horror novels of the past 25 years. Island was also a great treat, along with Body Rides, Cuts, The Cellar, and pretty much anything he penned. Dick Laymon was one of the best storytellers horror has ever seen.

  • Man i loved the traveling vampire show. I also enjoyed one rainy night but i would say its at the bottom of my richard laymon list. Cuts was a great one too that i deeply enjoyed. I read a little of endless night but didnt get into it. I wanna read one night in lonesome october and island.

  • Over summer i got personal emails from contributors to laymons terms - Keene, Ketchum, Piccirilli and Gerlach and they didnt know either.

  • Over on amazon. uk theres a release date of aug 31st for in laymons terms, is this confirmed anywhere else?

  • Read all the Beast House series, The Glory Bus, Endless Night and Midnight's Lair. Just about to start reading Night in Lonesome October. Just a shame that the uncut version of The Woods are Dark is not available in the UK.

I am a big fan of his work; started with Endless Night (and what a way to start), and been reading his work since :)

  • Love Laymon. I think Island and The Woods are Dark were my favorites. Also like Traveling Vampire Show. Endless Night was so brutally in your face it was good. Currenly reading The Lake now.

  • Great to meet another fan. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • i just finshed reading BODY RIDES. its a great book..

  • Great vid, Endless. Im re-reading Endless Night at the moment. Laymon was, (and always will be), THE MAN.

  • Yes Laymon was the man. Endless Night is a great book, and I'm really happy you like the vid.

  • Nice, so good to see a tribute to laymon, what a fantastice writer.

  • endless night is my 1st and fav!! i cant get enough laymon. sad but ,hes not out there enless u know wat to look 4

  • Laymon was absolutely the best! I've got all his books. Endless Night is my favourite; and, of course, I'm English. I was even a member of the short-lived fanclub. He inspired me to start writing myself (my first published story is due to appear in an anthology next year). His writing was so straight forward and accessable--no padding, no nonsense, just character and story, and even when the ideas were way out there he never failed to make it believable.

  • Thanks for the comment - I 100% agree.

I'm happy to hear that your story is getting published, let me know where I can find it. :)

The 'Endless' in my name comes from 'Endless night' by Laymon, but I'm sure you already figured that out, lol.

  • The story is called "Circus A Go-Go" and should be appearing in the next volume of Terror Tales, published by Rainfall Books; not sure exactly when it'll be released, but probably not for a while yet--one of the guys who runs the company lost his wife a while ago, so obviously their output has slowed somewhat.

  • Wow, I have some of his books on my bookshelf. I guess I better read them huh? ;)

  • Please do, Laymon is a brillint story-teller.
