I play rugby and I have to speak on the whole, "this is way harder than nfl stuff.". It's apples and oranges. Things to keep in mind - This video is full of illegal dump tackles and high tackles, imagine if this was just a bunch of nfl tackles done with unnecessary roughness. Also the pads in the nfl are what lead to its brutality - you don't need to slow down, and you can hit soft legs and arms with a very hard helmet. In rugby we do hit hard, but it has to be in total control to ensure you

When you can get a rugby player to run 4.0 in a quarter mile speed then argue the fact it's faster and harder hitting. Ive played hockey for 6 years football for 3 and rugby for 1, i prefer Rugby, I love all three and they all have there ups and downs football is great because of the roles each and every player does, Hockey is good too but there is something about rugby that just makes it awesome. I dont know if its culture or preferences but dont knock any sport till you have played it. I prefer it because theres no blocking in rugby and mainly open field hits, but I still play all three because they all rock.

What's amusing about this video is that the majority of the "hits" - because they mostly aren't tackles - are illegal. Most of them are late or high and would lead to penalties, and the punches and elbows thrown would likely get a player tossed off the pitch. Rugby is a phenomenal sport that requires intense physicality, but this video paints a pretty distorted picture of what that ferocity means.

American Footballers make/take a big hit and then have a 2 - 3 minute (or longer) rest.

Rugby is an 80 minute game that takes about 90 - 95 minutes to play and has approx 60-70 minutes of action.

A Rugby player makes/takes a big hit and immediately gets up to get back into the action and make/take another big hit.

On average the hits are very soft and weak, and I've seen some rugby games. Footballers hit way harder and concussions, brain damage, broken legs, etc can occur at any play. American football is far from a pussy sport.
