What a disaster for any competition,a four way tie and the announcers not knowing what to do!! All of those four singers from the uk,spain,holland and france were a credit to their countrry and to themselves.Viewing this contest now, some 40 years later and you cant help but feel the power and intention of the Portuguese girl,Simone De Oliveira.Her entry got me searching for other songs of hers .There are a few posted on YT.She never fails to deliver -just so annoyed i cant speak portuguese!.

The ESC was still worth watching in those days. Frida Boccara was the best, the real winner.

It was a good year the ESC. I want that i have seen this life. But that is inpossible. I was 4 years old in 1969. Verry good songs. Lenny kuhr en Frida Boccara they are for me the best.

Great song contest with huge deceptions:

the votes given to Portugal and Italy, that were, with France the true winners of this contest.

@brodovi08 I think it was a very beautiful 60s stage the previous year was more simple... and i was born in London. Spanish people has great talents :D Love Spain!

In Eurovision 1969 there were many good songs. It's a pity that the stage was very oldfashion, the previous year in London we could see a fantastic stage. Maybe that's the reason why eurofans consider Madrid'69 one of the worst stages.

@naughtypython I agree with you, 1969 stage was very simple and old-fashioned. Spanish tv didn't have enough money to afford the contest, Amadeu Gambino gave a sculpter as present that were placed in the center of the stage. The flowers were a present from Netherlands and the rest of the stage was the actual theater without any modification, you can see the organ tubes and all that...

The only thing spanish tv paid for was the scoreboard and it didn't work properly...

Sin duda el '69 fue un festival con muy buenas canciones, lastima por el resultado final..

El escenario con fores es algo anticuado, sobretodo teniendo en cuenta el de Londres del '68.

Pero hicieron lo q pudieron, la epoca no daba para mas.

Yo sinceramente que para correr marzo del año 1969 creo que el decorado es un autentico diseño, se aprovecho la estetica del organo del teatro real y mediante paneles se hizo el resto con un margen derecho decorativo y uno izquierdo con el marcador, el detalle de las flores es muy bonito y la estrella de eurovision central una obra de arte, creo que todo es moderno y armonico para ese año.

maravilloso festival el de madrid en españa

tenia 12 años y me impresiono mucho

ahora cumplidos los 51 me continua impresionando la calidad de la organizacion el decorado la presentacion el sonido de la orquesta el nivel de calidad de cantantes y canciones

todo el festival fue genial y creo sinceramente que ha pasado a la historia con todos los honores

aunque el momento politico era delicado
