  • Nice!

  • I just saw AB live last night here in Anchorage. What an amazing musician and a really nice guy.

  • I suppose that out of 355 thousand people 20 might be deaf or just hopelessly musically inept. That's the only justification I can come up with for the 20 dislikes.

  • @marksprawsonmusic Yeah, he's no lil' wayne!! stupid people......

  • Why can't all people like good music?

  • i love andrew bird soo muchhhh. and that drummer is really good, lol

  • I love Andrew Bird, he plays his songs differently every time he performs.

  • andrew whistles dixie

  • ..every time i see and hear this musemagician, he just kills me and then immediately raises me from the dead right before he kills me again followed by perpetual resurrections and murders..

  • Wow, he looks like he's lost in his own little world. I wanna go there too...

  • first saw him playing a block party in wicker park down the street from my house, it was 1997 or 98... been in love w/ his voice and violin since. Thanks for existing Andrew Bird...

  • Can't wait to meet this man.

  • so good.

  • He plays the VIOLIN, like a guitar!!! Thats just HOT!!!

  • WHALE FIGHT! WHALE FIGHT!

  • The dreams of children are wrapping around me. They are followig me everywhere and whining all day. Is my life so interesting? Maybe It's Yolkem's ghost. His eternal dream sleep.

  • Wow

  • ive been trying suuuuper hard to learn to whistle like that.

  • @zestytoaster i have to say that i've been doing the exact same thing. i'm still no good

  • Bird <3 I have....a musical crush on this man.

    Seriously.

    asdfh ahhh so amazing

  • Andrew Bird simply oozes natural talent and never disappoints. I can't believe the wall of sound he's able to create with 2 or 3 people. Simply fantastic.

  • @jessm985 I can't believe the wall of sound he can make by him self!! Have you seen him play solo ?

  • Thanks for posting this! I LOVE this song!!

  • SOooo GOOD

  • @handsolo44 If you don't like this then don't comment, no need to flame.

  • lalala wheres he get his awesome...i want some

  • is it just me or does he remind anyone else of jeff buckley?

  • @sleemangroup just you

  • @sleemangroup

I just accidentally stumbled upon this truly amazing artist a couple of minutes ago and I'm having the exact same thought!

I beg you, Andrew, take off your boots if you ever fancy a swim. 13 years have passed since and it's probably safe to say I will never get over it.

  • LOVE!

  • can i just point out that even his whistling is amazing?

  • actually i think he teaches folk music as his day job. That may lead to an air of proffesionalism. I think he goes for fine cut though.

  • I laugh a little while remisicing because I was up one night in high school and was watching the Dave Letterman show. This is the exact video I watched when I first discovered the inspiration, musical genius known simply as Andrew Bird.

  • I've never heard anything like his music! He paints with his music like an artist works in paint! Van Gough meets Piccaso with just a touch of Dali. A girl could get used to this!

  • i would like to crawl into andrew's mind and live in it.

  • Nasty.. :p

  • the pedal is a line 6 DL4

  • Went to his show in Melbourne a couple of nights ago, bloody brilliant I think.

  • what an incredibly talented man. his live performances are always impressive, especially at festivals. andrew bird is a consumate professional.

  • I actually kind of take issue with your statement. Andrew Bird is an artist and the reason he stands out is because he ISN'T merely a professional. The money is obviously secondary to his work.

  • @jophus82 I just mean he approaches his work with an air of professionalism. I didn't say that it is without artistic merit or that he isn't having fun making it. I wouldn't begin to suggest it's merely a day job. I'm obviously a big fan.... I don't see why what I said is anything but a compliment

  • @derpinator: I'm sorry that it sounded shittier than I meant. My problem (as an artist) is the use of the word professional. I write, so meanings are important to me. I just don't know if that word implies that he is doing it for money, as the term suggests. Where an artist is making art and that is their focus, there just happens to be a camera in the room. We're all friends here and we all have great taste in my opinion. Again, I'm sorry. I'm not a hater, I promise.

  • @derpinator1

I think you meant that he has a kind of precise, 'professional' feeling to his live performances right? It's very clean stuff. He obviously throws his life into it.

That definition of professional makes more sense than the other one of 'corporate' or money-hungry.

  • @jophus82

absolutely, I've seen andrew bird live twice now and the reason, (beyond that I also play violin) that he is by and far my favorite artist is because he pours his soul into his music, no holds no bars, both times he's brought me to tears with just the amazing amount of beauty he creates.

  • love this man

  • go see him live. it's ridiculously amazing.

  • amazing

how does he loop his violin like such a king?

does anyone know what he uses?

  • its a loop pedal but i dunno what kind or brand or anything.

  • this dude is a great musician...is it bird because he whistles or is that his name?

  • that's just his real name.

  • @MyNegr0 haha. no it's his name.

  • haha, bird is his name. and yes he's the best of our time.

  • indeed. but your name is pretty good to.

  • Bien ce mélange de Steve Reich (musique minimaliste), Jeff Buckley (pour la voix), Dominique A. (manière de chanter, textes) et de pop.

  • His music is sooo refreshing.

  • Thank God for Andrew Bird.

  • @jjmcduff thank andrew bird, for andrew bird

  • Wow, this is amazing...Andrew Bird is so different, it's refreshing.

  • yo dawg u trolling?

  • good god you guys are terrible trolls - and don't even try to cover that up by saying you were trolling as trolls. gb2/b/.

  • obvious trolls are obvious

  • and thus ends another chapter in the boring troll wars of andrew bird on letterman...

    to be continued

  • this was probably already mentioned, but they obviously cut this short in editing. look at the last shot, you can still hear dosh playing drums (and it's not a sample) but in the background you see him on the rhodes. whoops.

  • Dosh is the man.

    Bird is the man.

  • David seemed inpressed.

  • maxapotamus

    dickhead

    if drummerboy was impressed

he'd make time to talk to him on the show

actually, letterman thought bird was a joke

  • Letterman is a comedian. He likes jokes. Just to let you know.

Just pointing gleefully at the holes in your logic, that's what I'm doing! Yay!

  • WaywardBrigand

you thought about this a lot didn't you, you know, opening up a can of worms and the consequences and "taking on the best"

and then all the U fails and i'm so smarts

all I wan't to say right now at this stage is...

    DING DING

  • Taking on the best? The best, as in, you?

    You are mad, right?

  • WaywardBrigand

put it this way...I'm better than you

I say , fetch it...you bark and follow your masters orders

that's just the way it is

hey , talk about the video will you? You know, thats rude to the artist!

  • WaywardBrigand

your lame replies bore me to tears

Andrew Bird is cool compared to you

  • Wow, harsh commentary from someone with troll in their name.

    You are a massive success.

  • I am trolling you.

    Can't you read?

  • Comment removed

  • he has lots of nervous tic motions of the head to the left.

    and genius music.

  • Wow, you are hostile and opiniated....

Anyways, I don't think we were watching the same video!

  • Wow he twitches a bit to the beat, How could anyone enjoy this? Answer: By not being a douchebag, i love this guys stuff.

  • SourHabit

he's a violinist; ya spend a fucking lot of time with your head/neck contorted in one direction. becomes habit, y'know? my guess (as a violinist)

  • I didn't mean it in a bad way:

it was merely an allusion to one of his other songs...

  • Remember he's on Conan tomorrow, July 7th.

  • he has funny head spasms. but i loove himmm

  • it's actually just a nervous tic motion of the head to the left

  • Best response ever :)

Gotta love the andrew bird jokes :D

  • @mdgwsu89

    Yep, I'm aware.

  • He's a genius, he may be the most intelligent person on this planet and its not because he discovered some great thing or solved the economic crisis, its because of his music

  • He's wonderful

  • i watch letterman, and i can tell he was legitimately impressed with his creativity, so i was really surprised that he didn't get up to greet Bird. I can only assume by the instant segue to thanking guests, the show was pressed for time...

  • 0:52 wow he even sounds like a bird!

    <3 andrew

  • How about providing some constructive criticism other than "boy does he suck" and that he shakes his head. what did you think of the music?

  • sorry folks, it was a lapse of judgment on my part. so here it is, do *not* feed the trolls

  • averyshikanai

    BBUUURRRRPPP!!!!!!

  • :). lol

  • hahha ur funny u fatty ass

another one who dont know anything

  • Fuckia

  • damn. how can anyone not love this man? damn.

  • just would like to share Andrew music and response your video here. Thanks Love Andrew Bird.

  • Hey i can get where your coming from, but give him a chance. If u dont like his live stuff maybe youll like some of his records better.

  • This guy is brilliant

and is it just me or does he look totally different in every place he plays?

  • What a talented person, he almost reminds me of Lyle Lovett a little bit.

  • Andrew bird is so amazing. I saw him live before i ever heard any of his songs and i loved it. He puts on a cool show and everything he does is so unique. i thought this performance was awesome, even if he looked nervous. haha

  • It's easy to compare Andrew Bird to another musician, but it's hard for it to match his greatness.

  • Andrew looked so nervous throughout the entire thing, but he pulled it off brilliantly. The relief and satisfaction on his face at the end was great to see. This appearance was a big deal for him.

  • Ohhhh, he looks so happy at the end! I love that XD

  • Well....its more effective than being an ignorant prick on the internet i suppose.

  • Comment removed

  • no way could Andrew Bird EVER be compared so such crap music of Puddle of Mudd!

  • What?

  • lol

  • he looks like he's spasing when he sings.. anyways love this song

  • I think it's adorable, myself.

  • aw i saw him on St. Patty's as well.

he didn't play this song, which i was a little sad about. but it was still the most amazing show ever!

  • saw him on St. Patty's. absolutely wonderful.

  • Letterman you fuck - couldn't even get up to shake his hand?

  • Yep, Dave's gettin' old

  • Letterman's a tool

  • Just see his vids interviewing Pee-Wee Herman back in the 80's (when he had hair). Further proof.

  • I enjoy your vocabulary, but why the hatred?

  • I'm most likely indulging a troll here, but you are wrong on so many levels. His music isn't technical? Quite the opposite, him and his band mates are all amazing musicians and they put together quite a complex musical tapestry. However, it is never done in the hopes of wowing the listener with their chops alone. It's always in service of the song. If Andrew Bird's music comes off as simple to you, you most likely know nothing about music.

  • At the end of the day he gets to travel the world playing his music for thousands upon thousands of adoring fans, bringing much joy into people's lives (something much needed in these dire times we live in). Your desire to swat him down is less than equivalent to a rain drop in the ocean during a squall.

  • Man, how right you are. He has the same tastefulness as greats like The Band, Jaco Pastorius, Radiohead and the like. He is in their league for sure

  • he's as cool as pie

  • it sounds quite full even with just 3 players. although the drummer and Andrew are double tasking. Andrew is...triple tasking??

    AND a loop machine....

    now i see.

    wonderful

  • wow .. the red guitarist is playing bass on a normal guitar??.. does anybody know how?

im guessing he tuned down his E string.. or maybe the little pedal in front of him :\

  • I don't see why you say it's a normal guitar. Unless it's some weird four-stringed normal guitar, I do believe it's just a regular bass guitar.

  • oh my mistake.. i thought it was a guitar instead of a bass.. (cause of the body).. so just ignore my question

  • The red guitar is a bass. Its not a normal guitar.

  • i know... that's what i says.. "ignore my question" .. i was fooled by the body of the bass..

  • haha yea i saw that after i posted that. Sorry bud!

  • great

  • He is awesome i just met him an hour ago!!!!!!

  • ok they played another song on the show, does anyone know which one? Very unique.

  • if u r refering to a couple weeks ago it was fitz and dizzyspells. its from his new album Noble Beast

  • Good lord, he is a freaking genius. I can't believe how great his band is on live TV, and how awful so many others are. That was amazing!

  • This music is great.

  • Plasticities is an amazing song! So in love with Andrew Bird...

  • see i don't get why all that pop shit rules the charts and stuff like this doesn't even get a mention. and its been happenin for years...i don't understand it.

  • Because music is about money, sexuality, and status. People have looked away from the deeper meanings of music and have gravitated to the superficialities.

Why? My friend, I have no freaking clue. I find that everyday, more and more, I am losing my connection to this world.

  • it has always been that way, but today it is happening to a much greater extent. Back in the 60's and 70's you could hear great bands who made music with heart and soul like. That is almost unheard of today. What we need is songs with heart and emotion on the radio, but that's rarely heard of today. I don't really have anything against pop as a genre, there are som great pop bands today ( later period Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tegan and Sara etc) but there are way too few of them.

  • or well Tegan and Sara and The Red Hot Chili Peppers are not 100 % pop music, but they have hooks in ther music and at least they have a pop influence in their respective songs

  • I like this guy

  • anyone else reminded of jonathan richman by him? Anyone that whistles and makes it sound like a theremin is ok by me.

  • the intro gives me chills!

  • hes bringing real music back

  • I just saw the gentleman play Carnegie Hall. Real music? It turns out to have been around the whole time...

  • Oh hey, 10 days till the new cd. Noble Beast.

  • we'll fight, we'll fight

we'll fight for your music halls and dying cities
