If you want to know why most places outlaw steel studded tires try driving thru Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. The 3in deep grooves in the road will give you a hint. Studs only work if there is snow and ice for them too dig into. Otherwise you are only destroying the road and your tires.

@itpduder We just had a massive snow storm...3ft. No plows, no sand trucks. People are smart and they shovel there car out before they drive. This storm did teach alot of people to use winter tires forsure.

@DieselSmoke92 here in Atlanta we have about an inch of ice on the roads. Some trucker from Minnesota thought he could drive on the roads and jack-knifed. He assumed the roads were taken care of. Whoops.

It's a flippin' mess. The DOT didn't sand or salt in preparation. Few state plows but a construction industry that is sitting on equipment that can do the job. . . . finally someone got on the phone and called some contractors to help. It's a friggin' mess.
