Sure they're not about technique, Mike's writing is strong enough that they don't need a lot of fancy riffs and solos. But I don't think I'd be alone in saying that Fredrik's playing added a very cool dimension to Watershed that mightn't have been there otherwise.

He's amazing. His playing brings an element of intensity to Opeth that I always wanted. Not to take anything away from Peter's legacy, but Fredrick's chops are simply incredible, and he proved on Watershed that he can tastefully integrate his style with the band's sound.

Mikael is the greatest songwriter I've ever seen. The man has almost single handedly released 9 fantastic albums. That's a titanic achievement in itself.

@pwned2ice "Almost single handedly" is kind of a stretch. He's had Peter Lindgren as a major songwriting partner for most of those and one of metal's most versatile and tasteful drummers in Martin Lopez, plus Steven Wilson's contributions to Blackwater Park, which I consider their masterpiece.
