@masterchief3k I didn't have a fan on mine for some time, but then I thought "I'm just gonna tie this bitch to this thing". So I did and temps went down to I believe high 70's, like 77C (under full load, of course).
The 9000 series uses a smaller architecture... I think it was 50nm or something versus 60-something. I really don't recall. Regardless, it doesn't require as much power, so temps are lower. I'm glad it's working for ya though :)
@cotyslick Pulled a twist tie around the fin on the heat sink then stuck the fan on the heat sink and looped the twist tie through the hole on the fan and twisted it up. Bingo!
I have SO many twist ties from buying so much shit off newegg. lol.
I can't say for certain, but I'm 90% sure the Arctic Cooling Accelero will fit on an 8800GTX.
I suggest going to an overclocking forum (I go to extreme overclockers) and go to the proper sub forum and ask something similar to
"Do all the 8800 series graphics cards have the same mounting for heat sinks? (gt, gts, gtx, etc). In particular, if I wanted to swap head sinks (one is aftermarket) from an 8800GT to an 8800GTX, would it fit?"
I put that cooler on my 9600 GSO, doesn't need any fan. silent for my old rig.

Yeah... I don't have anymore 120mm fans. It's all good though. It does its job, and it's really quiet.

I never over clock.
besides, I'm still using an nVidea 7950 GT

Cooling is vital, though.
