  • Living the dream.

  • I agree, they are all great musicians having fun which is what some of trying to compare should do! I would cut my left nut off to play with Alex and Geddy and to be able to play as good as Taylor did here, he did a great job!

  • Holy fuck, the amount of bullshit by both sides in the "who's the best drummer" argument is so fucking lame. They don't care.

Taylor is a great drummer. Neil is a great drummer. It was Taylor's wish to play with the guys. Neil doesn't give a fuck because he's a man at peace with himself and has nothing to prove. Taylor is over the moon. They old guys enjoyed themselves. It's a lovely moment amongst blokes. Just enjoy what they obviously enjoyed as well.

  • @gupsnot Well said. Very sporting of Rush's frontmen to indulge as well. Another reason I love Rush.

  • Neil Peart is so f*cking good! [snort a line] OH GOD THERE IS NO DRUMMER BETTER THAN NEIL PEART

  • first of all they dont use the same kit, this kit is nothing compare to Neil's.

i have listen myself boored to Rush's YYZ and this is more fun and new approach - i like!! :)

  • @JeffPelle no man. Peart DESTROYS Hawkins. You can't even compare Hawkins with Peart...

  • @JeffPelle wait. are you high? there's no argument of Hawkins over Peart. don't even try.

  • @JeffPelle Nigga, you best be trolling.

  • im wearing big headphones

    drop the bass !

  • The drummer should join Soundgarden cuz he just got...

    OUTSHINED!

    OUTSHINED!

    OUTSHINED!

  • i think the video should have been called "Rush with Foo Fighters..."

  • nice bajs

  • @MastaTKK367 EXACTLY MY OPINION!

  • Nice CAMERA Work.

  • I bet Taylor was stocked for day after this. I know I would had been. Two of my fav. bands. Rush being No.1. But props to Taylor for hitting it like the master does "Neil AKA God of the drums"

  • Missing that ingredient toward the end without the keyboard. That part sounded okay, but definitely noticable. Everything else was pretty awesome!

  • Nice vid. Just an FYI, Neil would never show for something like this. He gets creeped out by publicity and VERY RARELY does anything musically outside of Rush especially considering his personal issues outside of Rush. I am sure Ged and Alex got his approval before doing this . It is a once in a lifetime thing for Taylor and I wish it was me (except that I play bass).

  • @deepinthepocket Hes been on Rick Mercer and Bill Maher...Burning for Buddy tribute he basically organised the whole thing. Has his own section for writing his articles in Modern Drummer. Anatomy of a drum solo DVD, Neil Peart A Work In Progress DVD, Pieces of eight solo song, author of four books and a spokesperson for DW drums. And no he doesnt get creeped out by publicity or he wouldnt be able to play to sold out venues. All they want is there private lives to remain private, like all of us

  • @dinglenutzz Have you read his books? You should. He's not a people or publicity guy.

  • @deepinthepocket Actually what Corneilus Peart really hates is adulation. People coming up to him and screamin "omg your a god" thats what he hates, because in his mind he is just a normal dude that likes to play drums, not to be adored as some mystical drumming force and idiots like me drooling over him =D. I have read and have everything about this band as these three helped me through a very shitty part of my life.

    Peace

  • Personally I think Hawkins dis I fine job. Could tell it wasn't Neil? Yeah somewhat. Could I have ever dreamed of playing with Rush? Every night? Could i have done better than Taylor? Hell to the no. Great job T-Hawk:)

  • I remember when I saw this during the Snakes and Arrows tour. It was so bad ass.

  • pretty cool. I like both bands & while I am not going to say it wouldn't have been cooler to have Neil there too...cuz it would have been awesome to see a dual drum thing going on. I have been to a ton of concerts, bu tI have never had the chance to see another artist come up & jam on a song. That would have been awesome.

  • brilliant :D

and to everyone moaning about Neil not being there, tbh yeah it'd be even better if he was, but it is a Foo Fighters concert :P so you shouldn't really have a go about that

  • Personally, I think Taylor did a fine job jamming with Ged and Alex, I don't think I could have done it, and I know damn near every guitar part to damn near every Rush song by heart. So what if Neil wasn't there, it wasn't a Rush concert, it was a Foo Fighters concert, Geddy and Alex jumped on stage, did the song, the crowd went nuts, and the show went on. Great highlight though, would have killed to have been there!!!!!!

  • I think some of you have missed the point. A fan being able to play one of his favorite songs on stage with the band is an incredible opportunity and experience. You only want to hear Neil, well screw off 'cause it ain't about you.

  • FUCK YOU to the downers..!!!!

Anyone who follows Foo Fighters KNOWS that the ENTIRE band are massive RUSH fans..!!!!

FFS...they play Limelight on their intro tape before each gig.

For wat it's worth Hawkins did an ok job...and he would have been in drummer heaven...good on him I reckon.

  • who gives a shit if neil pert isnt there this still looks like it was a ballin concert

  • Neil peart is the greatest fucking drummer in the world. So if im paying $250 for front row seats i wanna see him. Stupid queer.

  • it was foo fighters concert you weren't paying to see him

  • boo we want neil :P

  • The only reason Neil Peart wasn't there was because Taylor Hawkins invited Lifeson and Lee to specifically play with him 'at a Foo Fighter's gig', so why would Peart turn up? The whole point was so Hawkins could fulfil his dream of playing with Rush: Neil probably gave them his consent and approval, but Peart hasn't got anything to worry about - he's the master! So don't Booooo, live the dream with Hawkins!

  • @anomaly768 You are spot on !! Great comment !

  • love the song not the drummer

  • Where was this camera, among the rafters?

  • Wow it's amazing how good Neil is. Taylor is good too, but nobody can sit in for Neil. Not Dave Weckl. Not Dennis Chambers. Not Carter Beauford. Nobody. Neil has a certain spark to his drumming that I haven't heard anybody match. Neil wins!

  • This explains a lot to Taylor's drum set up.

  • The info on the video is wrong lol. Taylor Hawkins is a member of the Foo Fighters how can he be a guest artist? Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee were the guests to a Foo Fighters concert.

That's really tight though that he got to play with his idols like that.

  • gah I love rush these guys kick ass!!! my colourguard is doing yyz for our performance this year!!!!! lmao its going to be insane!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • go taylor hawkins. kick neil pert's butt.

  • What r u talkin about...neil peart is no question the greatest drummer alive!

there's not a snowballs chance in hell taylor hawkins cant match up 2 him...

  • sorry dude, neil peart owns taylor hawkins

  • Sounds like he changed key just to change up the guitar part a little. It's Alex, I have seen them perform over 30 times, and can count on one hand how many times he has hit a serious clunker.

Though I do remember him being on the "wrong page" when he started playing limelight and the band had to sort of stop him and Geddy shook his head and said.....Al, next song.

  • Awesome show! What a great surprise it was when Geddy & Alex came out. Just wondering, does it not sound like Alex played the wrong chords from 1:28 to 1:35, and then corrected himself at 1:36? It sounds like he was playing in the wrong fret position. I'm not complaining, they did an amazing job. It's just an observation...

  • yikes your right about the wrong chord on alex's part.....I can't believe i'd ever say or see that.......sorry............{1:28-1:35}

  • Sick song, one of there best, i saw them in Toronto on July 9th, and they had these sick trippy green laser lights omfg, they were so trippy.

  • Thanks for the comments everyone!

  • I like the cameraman's headbanging at the main riff 0:40 =D

  • Man..those are some cheap seats jk

  • First, it's always cool as shit to see your favorite band jamming with other cool musicians. Second, it exposes another generation to the greatest rock band of all time.

  • a bit too fast

  • you know why rush played with this "emo band"? because they were all rush fans when they were growing up and listened to their music. foo fighters are the farthest thing from emo and they are actually a band out today that is actually good. they werent trying to "reach out to youth", they were just trying to play with some people who idolized them. im guessing your some 50 year old hippie.

  • Foo Fighters are nowhere near emo...

  • i know some guy called them emo a while ago.

  • well that guy is an idiot, foo fighters are just rock. they're deadly and no where near emo. You're an idiot if you dont make your own judgements on music, just basing yours around other poeples. .. .

  • You know some guy who's a moron. He probably called them emo because the late Kurt Colbain (Nirvana)'s drummer is the frontman for Foo FIghters. Totally unrelated, yes, but that's idiots for ya.

  • So you're saying Kurt Cobain was the drummer from Nirvana and now is dead and at the same time is the frontman for Foo Fighters, as well as calling Nirvana an Emo band?

Lay off the reefer for a moment man.

  • I didn't mean Nirvana was emo, nor did I mean Kurt Colbain was a Foo Fighters drummer, I just figured, with the right, and ridiculous, amount of stupidity, someone could think that. Or not, whatever.

  • Nirvana's Drummer (not Cobain) is the front man for Foo Fighters...

  • No, I knew that. Cobain's dead. I was trying to explain something. I guess my eloquence failed.

  • yep Dave Grohl

  • dave grohl+nate mendel+taylor hawkins+chris schiflett=4 people=a real band.

    do your reasearch.

  • foi fighters are a joke Poeple think that they suck

  • DUDE THE FOO FIGHTERS FUCKING ROCK!

  • Why are people making such a big about this? Ripping up tickets and getting all pissy? Give me a break, they are musicians, Neil has played this song thousands of times, like he gives a shit if they play it with a different drummer a few times, besides, alex and geddy wrote it. The foos are a great fucking band and so is Rush, I have been a Rush fan for over years and A foo fan for about 8. I see no problem with this, it is just musicians having fun

  • is that neil playing the drums?????

  • No, that's the Foo's drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

  • It's Rush's hometown, the producer of Snakes and Arrows did a lot of work with the Foo Fighters, so there's nothing "wrong" with this.

As far as Lerxst messing up the chords...think he was fooling around on purpose...listen to him play the solo at 2:09....He's Smokin'

  • ya you're right...there are actually some other shows where he botches up in the segment before the solo, probably an iside joke with lee and peart.

  • they are a real band, you probably listen to the jonas brothers or soulja boy or some other shitty "singers"

  • that is total ignorance. first off, foo fighters have 4 guys, a real band to me. and rush played with them because they were a big influence on the foo fighters music careers.

  • Yea, they are coming on my bday June 7th to KC. Ive seen them 3 times in the past 4 years and I love them.

  • That's so awesome for Hawkins, probably a dream come true for him.

  • After seeing this video, Jul 2nd when they come to pittsburgh cannot get here soon enough!! I can't wait.

  • Alex must of had a drink or 3......He messed up at 1:32 with the wrong chords and a little more after that. See if you can hear it. Quite a rare opportunity to see Rush playing with other groups.

  • I LOVE RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great bands!

  • yyz should be toronto's anthem

  • It's the area code for the Toronto Airport. Lol.

The melody at the start of the song is the morse code for it.

    Neat eh.

  • it is.

  • taylor? i wish it was dave!

  • I jizzed when the Foos played a 20 second snippet of YYZ when I last saw them. Now they play it with Alex and Geddy! YES BOYS

    Rush - Music for musicians

  • Rush is the greatest band ever.

  • the only thing these guys need is a vocalist, but that's not important at all (ooh, look, sarcasm)...

  • I hope you mean, cause this is an istrumental? Because I know you don't mean Geddy

  • Hey dick-nose, instrumental music was around before vocal music. In the early 20th century, vocal music was considered a novelty.

  • Yea, your obviously not that bright.

  • well, not everybody knows stuff like that

  • Yes, and others realize the importance of having basic knowledge of the world before they were born.

  • thats not basic knowledge!

  • your an idiot there are sooo many instrumentals even in the 60s 70s and 80s just because someone isnt singing doesnt mean its bad music

  • god damnit! I am so sick of people telling me that! Shut up! I know music doesn't need to have lyrics to be good- I wish a lot of the songs I've heard we're just instrumentals! I'm just not used to listening to them that much! Jesus Christ!

  • Chill man and enjoy the music

  • Fantastic performance! Thanks for capturing on video. The video motion kind of made me nauseous, though.

  • That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow I'm so jealous! I went to the Foo Fighters concert in London and it was insane. Taylor Hawkins drum solo was intense and my friend got his drum stick at the end!! Haha some old dude wanted it for 60 dollars after. But yea, RUSH! and YYZ too! That's amazing.

Geddy Lee, Best bass player ever, c'mon!

  • orgasmo. nice.

  • "Rush baby!" haha

    SO good!

  • Fantastic. The boys in Rush are finally loosening up and having some fun.

  • Finally? They have been loosened up and having fun for 34 years. Geddy and Alex are pretty light and easy guys. Alex is a goof ball really. Neil likes to be to himself, not a fan of being bothered by people all the time I don't think. A real introverted personality. It's cool though, I'm the same way.

  • Yes, finally. While Alex (complete goofball, yes) and Geddy ARE fun-loving guys, their participation in much of anything not directly Rush-related has always been slim-pickings. And Neil? Sure, he's a great guy, but he has, up until a few years ago, basically kept major distance between himself and the "limelight" (pun intended). Dude seems to be more and more open as the years pass. So...nice to see.

Who knows, maybe we'll soon see the trio perform on an awards show!

    Yeah, right.

  • cool. I can agree with that.

  • Yea, most don't know about Rush. They are REALLY funny! It's just they keep to themselves, are VERY modest and most importantly, HAVE TO BE SO FOCUS on their music...Very technical..Actually, they are really not moving around a lot here. Actually less then when they are on their own tour...

  • Excellent band one of the best with a superb back catalogue to choose songs from, also Snakes and Arrows is the best album I have heard in ages.

And Neil Peart had some bad times in his personal life, losing wife and daughter in a short space of time, but now he is recovering, hard things to bear even for a wealthy man.

  • What? How did he lose them?

  • His daughter died in a car crash, and then his wife died from Cancer, or a broken heart, or a combination.

  • Foo Fighters' Drummer, in a Foo Fighters' concert...

  • great stuff

  • wicked yo!!

  • add this code for higher quality: &fmt=18

  • Never have I wished I'd been at a gig so much in my life!

  • same here man and i was so close to going to this too xD

  • Getty Lee is an awesome BASS PLAYER!

  • sorry but Geddy lee is the best bass player ever

  • Except Cliff Burton...

  • Foo fighters... great band and a fun band! Rush? you gotta see em live to see just how talented these fellows really are. You get confused as to who to watch. A rediculously talented bassist who sings while plays the way he does.... A guitarist who's always looking for that different note.... or the drummer who..... well, what can i say?

  • rock at its best

  • i may bought tickets. had i known ged and alex might have been then, holy fuck! what list do I need to ged on, yes I said GED ON!?!

  • There was nothing bad about this show, holy shit when they came on stage the place exploded and i cried man tears with my boner...acoustic set was amazing, iggy pop story was also amazing... FOO FIGHTERS= AMAZING

  • I was front row! Best show ever!

  • I was in the front row on the floor for this and I filmed it... I've just uploaded the video now for those interested. I was literally 10 feet away from these guys.

  • I was there last night!! Amazing man, when the platform came down and the band ran across to play on it was awesome!

  • When i first got there i was wonderin what that big thing at the end of the stage was, and when it started to come down it was sweet

  • \m/ I would have wet myself, amazing. Foozer WHO??

  • "i cried man tears AND had a boner" baahah grohl <3

  • I'm guessing this was the best part of the show

  • i have a video from the pit of this song i will get it up asap

  • section 320 row 7

  • i have a video from the pit of this song i will get it up asap

  • I sat beside u literally.. I was in front of you with 3 of my buddies..

  • great vid

would be nice if he could stop fucking shaking though!!

  • Try not to complain, its hard enough being drunk taking video and rocking out..

  • yes, difficult to not rock out, esp w/ a little buzz (or perhaps more than little?) going, plus how the hell did you get the camera in? They pretty much strip search now...good job!

  • You must have been right behind or beside me when you took this video. I was the long hair scaring the hell out of the girl beside me with my screaming and singing LOL.

  • Wow this version is fast!!

  • I dont really like rush, but i lost my mind when they showed up. What a great instrumental.

  • Lerxt, Geddy ditch captain Misery, you've got a new drummer for a longer future.

  • This guy replace Neil. nigga please

  • Nobody's beating Neil Peart for greatest drummer of all time.

  • I say ginger baker out does him

  • Dear lord! Possibly the coolest thing the Foo Fighters have ever done!

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • This was AMAAAAZZZZING! It was incredible to be there - WELL worth the 90mi drive! Probably the best show I've ever been to. Run - don't walk to get any ticket you can for this tour!

  • Ohhhhh my god that was orgasmic, i envy anyone there so much

  • So awesome! Every drummer's dream to say they played with Rush.

  • Is that Taylor or Dave on drums?

  • its taylor

  • WooooooooW!!!!

  • Yeah Sorry about the crowd reaction

  • oh goodness, i would have shit myself if i was there.

  • crazy show and i had front!!!!!

  • You lucky fuckin' Canadians! :)

  • THATS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

  • Why did ticket master have to sell out of THESE tickets!!!

Ottawa was still the best fucking day of my life though! haha.

  • Hah :D the crowd went wild!

  • that was fucking insane!!!!!

    was such great concert!!!

  • Like Dave, I was crying "man tears" when this happened.

  • and had a boner...

  • This was so unreal. I couldn't believe it when they came out. And taylor hawkins nailed this song. Best Foo Fighters show I've ever been to, and borderline best concert I've ever been to

  • I fucking lost it when Rush came out. this was by far the best concert I've ever been to. Dave Grohl.... unreal

  • I was in the stands to the left of the stage and it was almost as entertaining to watch Dave Grohl rockin' out while he watched.

  • i so wasnt expecting that.

    amazing show.

  • Best show I've ever been to hands down!!!

  • I WNET INSANE WHEN THIS HAPpENED

  • amazing show...you just don't get this kind of stuff anymore

  • When Rush walked onto the stage I nearly shat my pants! One of the best parts of the show, by far.

  • Awesome. Too bad the video cuts at that point. Full crowd reaction would have been nice.

  • I was there, may have been my favorite part of the show, but I enjoyed the whole concert.

  • This is so many levels of awesome.
