You can't repeal the healthcare bill until 2012 at the earliest, and that is assuming you have a Republican President, and the GOP controls both houses of Congress with strong majorities.

First, the Constitution does not give Congress the power to require that Americans purchase health insurance. Congress must be able to point to at least one of its powers listed in the Constitution as the basis of any legislation it passes.

They won't repeal it because they will want the insurance money that the Dems are going to be getting for putting in those mandates. They will just say the deficits won't allow subsidies so poor and middle class people have to pay it themselves or pay a fine.

But hey, they certainly tried to make it less viable by introducing privatization, with the cost of $2 trillion dollars of unfunded mandates.

Not surprisingly, a lot of the "cost savings" of this current program is to make it so that Medicare Part D gets no more budget than what normal Medicare gets.

Which is hard, considering Part D costs 30% more.

The house needs to pass the senate bill and then both will pass the reconciliation bill (which only needs 50 votes in the senate). It's pretty much inevitable at this point that it will passed.
