That species of tortoise is called a Gopher Tortoise. It's not a turtle by definition as a turtle has a hinged plastron and it certainly does burrow a prolific amount of tunnels 20 feet underground in dry sandy conditions.

I had to move out of Vernon because of the heavy satanic situation there. Kids were goin out late at night and hangin out by fires and smoking cigarettes, drinkin beer. Well to be fair Morris probably handpicked the most bizarre people in the town and only showed them. Still, I don't think people should get up in arms about it. The South (and America as a whole) is full of wonderfully odd people who are pushed to the side and never shown on TV/movies.
