It is unlikely that GDP can be correlated with oil imports linearly. If you look at growth rates in dollars, you get a more accurate picture. At 3.5 % growth (CIA Factbook), our economy becomes 475.5 billion dollars richer this past year (in actual value of goods and services, not just currency). Likewise, combining India's and China's economy into one and assuming they grow at 10% (which is an over-estimate) they'll become 332.3 billion dollars richer this year.

The value of oil is what is traded, regardless of currency used. If you want Oil-Producing nations to sell mainly to Europe, it'll be a useless gesture because Putin already controls Europe with Russian oil. If those countries want to make any money of their oil (so they don't starve to death, they'll sell to the US.

Yes, I am stating that the value of oil will fall. It's simple, really. If the number of consumers of a good goes down, the demand curve drops. The fall in the demand curve causes both the equilibrium price and the quantity sold to decrease. Therefore, the suppliers would make less profit selling cheaper oil. Doh!

Assuming that OPEC suppliers, like Saudi Arabia, are greedy (what leader isn't?), why would they choose to make less money? Any dent they make in our economy by not selling to us, they hurt themselves FAR worse because their economy is dominated by oil profits.

(both with growth rates 20+%!?!) in terms of industrialization, rural electrification, AND transportation in a dramatic way for both countries... there is talk in saudi arabia of setting production as low as 12 million barrels daily (surely saudi arabia has reached peak production if this is even being considered.) at any rate, every other mass producer has peaked long ago..

It will be very relevant. According to the most recent CIA factbook, India's and China's GDP growth rates are about 10%. Assuming the relation between oil imports and growth is linear like you do, and your numbers are solid, we'll be generous and say their oil needs double every 7 years.

Population isn't relevant, because economic strength isn't well distributed in China or India (lots of poor people). As of 2005, we import about 10 million-billion barrels a day, with a 3.2% GDP growth rate. Our total consumption, however, is above 20 million-billion. China and India's consumption combined is 3 million-billion barrels a day. It would therefore take approximately 14 years for their demand for oil to meet our present-day demand for oil.

The US federal government distributes power between 3 branches: Executive, legislative & judicial.
The President executes the will of Congress.
Congress, writes the law; legislates.
The Supreme Court (the judicial branch) decide if the law is Constitutional.
If Bush is a dictator he's not very good at forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism.

Obviously you've never had a constitutional law class (I have). The truth is this things are supposed to work that way but really don't. The constitution says lots of things, but the law of the land is in the interpretation of that law. And essentially, the executive has been given greater power in the past 100 years than the other two branches, except the Supreme Court now has a lot of power over social policy (again, not in the actual wording of the constitution).
