I think that one needs to take the next step and promote the idea of the free thinking intellectual. In most cases, a true evaluation of intellectualism is not confined to the perverted system of institutional academics. Rather the merits of an individual’s thoughts, the depth of their insight, and mediums of articulation should truly be celebrated. Contrary to the norm of calculus text books and the “nerd” with the bow tie.

This is a great song that was intended to be funny and playful and I think the intention was to simply enjoy it rather than get hung up on the literal definition of "intellectual" versus "smart". Use a little of your own intellect and enjoy the artistry of this great talent.

In the song you talk about the estereotypical nerd, the know it all's. But they are usually very smart, not intelligent/intellectual.

There is a huge difference between being, "Smart" and being, "intelligent".

"Smart" relies more in knowledge which is powered by the ability to memorize.

"Intelligence" relies in thought and is powered by the ability to acquire desired results...or in simple: "the power of thought and ability to think intellectually.
