mrRevhead1 on mythbusters they showed that just burning the tires won't ignite gasright away because the spinning puts it back out , it takes about 2-3 mins after but if he had exhaust cut outs with a fuel line going to it and a spark plug then yeah I can see how he did it

From a VERY reliable source: There was no system fitted to ignite the rear tyres, it was as much a surprise to the owner/driver and us as it was to the spectators. The officials DID NOT "chat" him about the fire and no threats of future disqualification were made. The rego plate is descriptive, and we didn't seriously think people would work it out for themselves, but it did get people coming up and talking to us at the burnout comps. Awesome burnout mate.... What a crowd pleaser!
