The only thing more impressive than your left hand, is your right hand.....which is still less impressive than Chris Thile's little finger on the left hand. (you're still very, very good at mandolin)
this is lovely..i played mandolin for a while and loved it, im a guitar player by nature, this makes me happy though, truely pretty stuff, i love chris thile as well, you should see him live if you get the chance, i saw him with bela fleck once and it was godly...any way, absolutely love your playing, keep pickin!
well, i'm actually self taught. i've picked up classical music recently, though, and have learned the Dm Gigue from Partita #2 by Bach, as well as the first half of the E Major Prelude from Partita #3 also by Bach
you did a difficult piece well... try and give more definition to the higher notes on e and a strings... that's what gives the piece it's virtuosity and makes the mandolin unique right? especially in the end and around 1:34, 3:26. You were good at the end and the tricks around 4:02. The measures around 2:00 give the piece a richness of structure.
This is so cool! I'm self-teaching myself mandolin too! Do you have any tips for improving dexterity at all? And my beginning mandolin has taken a serious beating and I'm thinking of upgrading to something nice...any suggestions? Thank you! I admire your talent and dedication!
I think the best way to improve dexterity is to simply play, practice as often as possible. I probably average a couple hours a day, or more. Take a simply song, and work on preciseness. Every note should be heard, un-muffled and clean. Scale work is also helpful.
I've found the Chris Thile Essential Techniques for Mandolin will give you a good work out,(and continue the serious beating that you're already receiving)

Accuracy, precise intonation, and right-left hand coordination come by starting slowly and then picking up speed, as you well know. I also think you know that Thile didn't play this piece fast right out of the gate. You have got the parts that count, and speed will come as you play it more.
Wow! You are very good. Don't apologize for lacking Thile's speed. Your rendition of this tune is passionate, your technique is flawless. And I love the tone of that mandolin. Thank you.

Did you learn this by ear? This is a difficult one to take a part.

Well done. I would buy your solo CD right now.

Dude, you are great and very talented! Any advice for improving mandolin playing? How do you practice?

long and hard. Practice is really important to improving obviously, but I also love playing, so it doesn't really feel like "practice", i suppose.
