I thought he was just mute...a couple times, he was able to notice Derek wanted his attention when there wasn't any kind of physical contact...of course, if there wasn't, then it would obviously just be lip reading, but meh, I could be wrong. After all, he didn't start running when the coach signaled, but after everyone else started.

Then begins a silent conversation of personal longing, through gentle gestures, back and forth, with the occasional shrug --boy code for "ok".

Derek may may not be sure what Sean has read, but he is ok with it. Derek has admitted Sean into his private thoughts.

But ot was private enough that Derek wanted it kept secret. Sean has now seen Derek's writings, and is initially angry. Yet when Sean goes to leave, and gives Derek his journal back, Derek says "I'm not angry"

Earlier, Derek tells Sean "I'm not angry"when Sean reads his private thoughts in his journal. What had derek written there, we will never know.

Sean offers a high five, then gazes at Derek, which our bully notes. But because Sean is deaf, the bully is not sure, and Sean taunts him back with gestures

The change room is significant, because it is truth in near-nakedness

Sean is shy but attracted to Derek, especially after Derek defend / helps with the goy who makes fun of his deafness in the changeroom

Night Swimming is in a DVD called "Boy Crush" which is like a collection of gay short films...Boy Crush also contains Running Without a Sound, so I assumed you might've gotten this film from that DVD...its about these two rocker-like friends, and one of them has a crush on the other friend and they go out for a drive and end up in the middle of nowhere really and yeah, things happen...it looks really good, but I was only able to get access of the first half.

@stefgi32 ya, I remember that one now. I have to much trouble uploading those ones so I just cheated in order to this on youtube. I uploaded veoh which lets me copy videos from youtube to my computer. That's where I got this one from. When the original was deleted from youtube I put my copy up so people could watch it again.

Lol! I didn't get this movie, cute actors though. And when they were taking an hour just for a kiss, i was like kiss already, it`s just a kiss nothing major people, especially since you are both obviously gay (but it seams that the kiss is actually the most important part of the story). This movie had no real story for me, and the ending was really pathetic. Every time they wrote something we couldn't see what it was, which made it very difficult to understand the little substance this movie had

It's not my film. I found it on a movie with gay short films. I agree about the lighting. I really like this film and would love to see a full length movie about these two charcters. Dare was a short movie that is being made into a full lenght film as well as Faeries now called Were the world mine.

The lighting in that scene is purposeful. It is called "backlighting" and the idea is to make the characters look like silhouettes. Usually, and I think this is the case here, this technique is employed to represent the idea that the characters have inner feelings that have yet to fully come to the surface. You notice how Sean has light cast on him in this scene, because he is knows what he wants. Derek, who is wavering in his attraction/non-attraction to Sean, is in the shadow.
