  • One of the best songs ever made!!!!

  • People seriously need to give a Charlene a break! Ok, maybe this song isn't my cup of tea, but she has a beautiful voice and sings other songs than this that are really good.

  • Lovett!

  • My favorite song in the world.

  • Thank Lord for moments like this. And thank you all for sharing

  • can see she's not happy and a bit withdrwan today. still like her singing and performance. maybe it's relaly the ballon and things....

  • Man, it went all the way to #2!!!!! Wow, imagine a song where a woman actually regrets abortion making it on the charts today!!! Good job, Charlene!!!!

  • I love this version so much better in which she doesn't speak between the second and third stanza.

  • Love this song, hugs from Singapore :-))

  • jizz

  • thats my favrit song

  • Nice song

  • Q: The pop up at 1:29 says "and is threatening to tour later in the year"????

  • @Lalo3001 Yeahr, right? That's what I read too.

  • adorable

  • Beautiful Song...I truly enjoyed it....Thanks for posting.

    **Country Girl**

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    so much

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love you

  • this version is really poo!! nancy wilsons original is more believable this woman dosent sound like she had any life experience

  • i love this song!

  • I'm surprised so many people hate this song, I love it. If you look at it in a philosophical way, there's more to the words. This is what songwriting and poetry is about, expressing something that only you might understand, something worth sharing even if nobody understands it completely.

So what if people don't like it? It'll always be more unique because of that.

  • @Kodiak90 Anyone who does not like this song is either lying or has a heart of Satan, thanks to the progressive movement in the public schools turning our kids brains into evil propagating demons of the State.

Society needs to rethink music and MTV. These are the tools making our communities run amok with drugs, disobedience, and crime.

Expose your children to good music and TV and you will have a more pleasant life, household and neighborhood. Try 40's,50's,70's music for your kids.....

  • @HHH100

a drag queen sang it - so there you go. i hope i could have a little drag baby

  • @Pipleybeta So. Who cares about mutant humans? Want to learn something else? Here is a quote from the Founder of Planned Parenthood:

    Margaret Louise Sanger

    1879 - 1966

"We do not want word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro population"

So much for liberalism won't you say? They are being exposed as the TRUE racists they blame everyone else for thanks to 0bama. He he he

  • @Kodiak90 It is a gay song

  • @Cervezasi If you're talking about "homosexual-gay": Charlene, the artist of this song, married a man. I hardly think this song is about being gay.

If you're talking about "gay = lame/bad": That's you're opinion on the song, which is trumped by many other opinions of people who think it's good. Why should I care?

  • I love this song since I was born.

  • i really love this song...

  • she doesnt like the baloons

  • i really like this song when i was still a child... my mother taught me this song while she plays the guitar i also sang... :)

  • Reformed whore? Speaking from experience are we?

  • OH! A reformed whore is now prim and proper. What is this telling us?

Love! Enjoy your love any way that is legal! (And, if it's not legal where you are, and hurts no one - fight to make it legal.)

  • got that right prixator!

  • ahh so your a lesbian? what with comming across so butch and all that....

Who mentioned rednecks? your a yank and thats bad enough lol. As for MJ, thanks for the offer, I have seen videos showing both sides of the whole thing already. Besides, he was an over rated poster boy for the 80s pop music sheep generation if we are all honest wasnt he. Little substance and dull songs.

  • then you are obviously someone with reading and probably general learning issues. Troll?? lol I notice you don't deny interfering with your sister - you sicko.

  • MJ? the suspected (yet not proven as he shelled out enough money to shut the people up) kiddie fiddler who would have been equally gay since it was little boys he was fiddling with?

I bet your an American arn't you - someone who likes to interfere with his sister and sees it as being completely normal.

  • wao....

    dis song is worth reminiscing

  • This reminds me of what I was feeling when it came out. now i can remember the feeling of all those years ago.

  • this song is really great. You guy have no idea how this song inspires me.

  • this is musik!!

  • this song is peaceful

  • perfect!!! =)

  • This was no 1 in Uk as well.

I know a lot op people like this song.

Its also relaxing isnt it. Charlene was also a chacter played by Kylie in Neighbours.

  • I know this song from "Wii music"

  • lol me too :)

  • I really love this song.

  • Wow... this brings back memories. The good old days....

  • Love it.

  • Thank god she left the spoken bridge out of this version (like other posts on here) It really kills the song.

  • 1:32 LOL she is threatening to tour later in the year!

  • _+ wLa bAng mAy Lyrics jAn ha!!! +_

  • Guys, this song bacame a hit because it is so ridiculous that it becomes funny. It is CAMP. It tells the story of a high class prostitute who teaches a housewife how to enjoy her life and be happy with what she has.

  • I'm only fourteen but this song has a deep meaning & really touches my heart [:

  • Im just listening to this cause its on wii music

  • same here, its an ok song, but i was curious

  • wOw! top of the pops existed ages ago?? whew!! good job!

  • remind me of something 2~

  • This song remind me of the French woman, Chantal, that my husband had as a mistress for years. He paid for Columbia education. When I found out, I felt a twinge of pity mixed with disdain for her. "The subtle whoring that costs to much to be free" made me think that even though she was into all the fantasy life, it was not real and at the end of the day we are together and sadly, she is still moving from man to man to support herself. Perhaps someday she will understand that she wasted her life.

  • Wow...

  • sadly enough, your right, some of us have wasted our lives...and its deeply painful.

  • @dauchotnyc Puh...lease!!! Pity & disdain should be for YOU for staying with a guy who slept behind your back YOU idiot!!! And "fantasy life?" is reserved for a deluded housewife (SEE: Idiot) like you who give these creeps (YOUR husband!) ammunition!

  • @dauchotnyc My exhusband is a prominent surgeon and he cheated on me since the 3rd week we were together. Once a cheater always a cheater, don't blame the other women, the relationship is between you and your husband. He made the decision to cheat. I didn't make excuses, I choose not to live the fantasy and left. He still is cheating moving from women to women. We tend to justify and see what we want to see = fantasy = pain when reality bites. I wish you well <3

  • @puremalibubarbie

well you must have received your fair share of his assets and alimony to boot. you got something for nothing so your ex-husband is the only chump here.

in fact, any guy stupid enough to sign a marriage contract in the US where asset division and alimony payments are mandated and enforced by law, is by definition, a fantasist.

  • @TheRedCapitalist

Assuming makes an ass out of you. I make more than he does and I had a pre-nup to protect myself....he got nothing. I hope you make peace with your pain and meet someone deserving of you.

  • @puremalibubarbie

well, isn't it convenient that a woman would get a guy to sign a pre-nup and consequently he got nothing out of the marriage. so you just scammed him for his services instead of his money. good on you. smart girl.

assuming makes you an ass too. why would you think that i'm in pain? or that i need anyone, particularly some whore for a wife?

as long as supply is larger than demand, i'm fine. and i enjoy preying on women.

  • @TheRedCapitalist You know men are the whores. You just admitted preying on women....that is a whore!!!! Scam my husband for his services? Thanks for the laughs. I find you to be entertaining at best.

  • @puremalibubarbie

preying on women does not make you a whore. its one of the first things mankind learnt when he came into existence. and for women, they get food, shelter and protection from servicing men. this is why prostitution is known as the oldest profession in the world.

i'm sorry but you malibu types have been fed western ideological BS for too long, and that is why your countries / civilizations are crumbling into dust all around you.

  • @TheRedCapitalist I agree, for the woman above to imply that her husband's mistress has a lesser life than she, that's bullshit. The mistress got love, sex, financial support, and a paid education then moved on and the man went back to his wife. As far as I can see, she is not the one who lost; the one who is still with the man who cheated on her and paid for another woman's education is perhaps the one who lost. We all choose our own paths in life and no one should judge each other for that.

  • @dogrescuergirl she's fooling herself!

  • @puremalibubarbie so true!!!!!

  • @dauchotnyc

all women are whores, it just depends whether they are public or private. you might have think she wasted her life, maybe she prefers short term contracts, different men and different fee stratas.

  • @dauchotnyc I personally would only stay in a marriage with someone who had a mistress if the marriage was open. I refuse to accept betrayal. I would feel like I was wasting my life putting up with a liar for a husband.

  • @dauchotnyc wow, i hope you left him and dont blame HER for "stealing" your man but HIM for cheating!!!

  • @amyyyamy amen

  • @dauchotnyc perhaps one day you will understand you wasted your life on an asshole, cheater, bastard! don't blame her - it'S HIM who cheated on you. did you leave him??? i sure hope so!!

  • This song's really beautiful.

  • i love this song really touching and amazing....

  • i love this song

  • where is randy crawford version ?

  • great song............

  • It's really a touch song. When I'm unhappy and want to cry...I must hear this song. Its work and heal my soul.

  • wow, awesome

  • That's so pretty....

  • Controversial lyrics to some but yet beautiful song! This could be used in musical for the lyrics wise. Too wonderful to be forgotten. I don't believe that this song was written for misogynits' content. This song is about all the people who look back their lives with tears and smile.

  • I want to cry.

  • i cant remember when is the first time i hear this song...and i dont know it touches my heart...i love it!

  • I really like this song!

  • good song!

  • good job char!!

  • Fantastic, nice to hear it again after 30 years,,,,thanks

  • This song is unmitigated crap.

  • I agree, yet we both ended up on this video.

  • T R A M P softly...

  • This song is awful... it has everything I hate in a piece of music especially that talking bit towards the end.

But for some reason I absolutely love it. It makes me feel all emotional I still don't know if that's because it is so awful or because it is actually good.

Whatever it was good to hear it again some 26 years later.

    Joe

  • @EnglishMFrankfurt Trust me, it doesn't sound this bad on the recording. I think this was a bad performance, from the start she looks quite pissed off.

  • LOL!

  • lol i love the balloon at the start

  • A beautiful song-very moving.

  • a balloon is always flying~~~

  • but a pencil must be lead

  • she spent her life "exploring subtle whoring" bit heavy for a pop song

  • a balloon is always flying~~~

  • she's good...i love the song..you go girl!!!

  • I was one year ;)

  • What is she doing making love to preachers?, loose women! good song though.

  • Is she white??

  • This song rocks!

  • It's an excellent song,but I can't understand it in depth

  • How old are your mental age?

  • Love her to bits what a woman i want her wonder how she looks now tho ?

  • The meaning of this song is about giving advice to a married and bored woman about all the experiences (subtle whoring) that she's had in her life but that she could change everything just to be able to give birth to a child.

  • okay, have you ever been to you?

  • The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Sorry if this double posts :)

  • How about... The grass is always greener on the other side ;)

  • I think that the true meaning of this song is ... oh yes I forgot it's in fact the most hilarious camp classic in history (and has no "true meaning") ....

  • I think the songs meaning is something like she's lived a life of luxury and travelled everywhere and all that, but after it all she's finally realised she's never really been happy after all and wants to find somebody to settle down with and all that.

    good song though

  • Living wild, single & free, what many only imagine. Possible envy to women who chose marriage/family. Who daydream of a more exciting life. A message to the wise. All seems to be wonderful from afar, yet now alone, she comes away with little more than empty memories. Her shallow existence in lonely regret to true importance. BOTTOM LINE: We only get one shot & lifes filled with many choices. Be Happy in your own skin & share smiles. You'll surprise in what so little can mean so much!PEACE

  • Bloody hell your comment depressed me:/

  • What can you say? Great song thx...

  • Awesome voice...

  • its not the meaning of this song but it's realy relaxing too..

  • what's the meaning of da song?

    pls answer!

  • i think the meaning of this song is all about a prostitute who had travel all around the world to find the true meaning of her life...

  • the meaning of the song is be content with the hand that life has dealt you with bcos its easy to think there is something better somewhere else and that the grass is greener on the other side when in reality its not so just be happy and stop wanting more.afterall its the search for happiness that makes us unhappy

  • FAB SONG!!

  • "Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children that might've made me complete" That lyric makes me cry every time.

  • i like this fucking song

  • This is the age when No-sexi still can sing and go public

  • the most meaningful song i've ever heard

  • A blast from the past. Thank you. I've always enjoyed listening to this song.

  • yea this song speaks the real meanin' of love and life. love this too

  • this is one of my most favorite songs because it speaks about truth in life. thank you for sharing.

  • I still love this song. I was amazed when I played it for my 15 year old daughter, that she loves it also.

"subtle whoring" and "moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo" just stick in the mind.

  • This Song is one of the finest written during the 80's. It has been criticized because it tells the truth about love, committment, thrill-seeking and what real happiness is all about. The voice over in the original speaks of babies and commitment to a husband and points the way to a peace that "Desperate Housewives" will never know. Thanks for posting this.

  • This is hilarious.

  • great video

  • this has been a fave for every ladies.

  • I love this Song, but its better to see Tick singin it

  • Thanks for your sharing. You are so nice!

  • This is a very well written song, apart from that clunky talk-over on the original, the song is a classic, I love the words: "I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that cost too much to be free" - brilliant

  • QUE LINDA CANCION, MUY LINDA!!!

  • BIN TU YORYA AN CALIFORNYA

  • I just love her :0)

  • Awesome song!!! Brings back a lot of memories :) Thanks for sharing

  • Charlene has a beautiful voice. This is a great song!

  • I'm speechless, I sat through 3:32 and I don't think I'll ever be the same. This video is worth watching.

    Smashingly Awesome!

  • Never be the same? Why?

  • Her expression with the balloons is fucking halarious!! Gook

  • She looks slightly unhinged after she bashes it away - love it!

  • nice song

  • Music is pretty. Words are awful. I can see why this winds up on "worst songs" lists. I prefer Mrs. Miller's "I've been to me, and believe me, it's no thrill."

  • This is great!! I remember when my mom bought this record...and I can still remember all the words after all these years. Thank you!!
