  • @intheblues hey man, I have a fender stage 160, a pretty standard solid state and can't get anywhere close to this tone. What would you suggest in terms of possible pedals or new amps? The thing about mayer's style is that he solos with not a single distorted note and I can't model it. I know it sounds picky to want the same exact sound, but do you have any suggestions such as a blues driver or anything? Thanks for your help!

  • i figured out that unfortunately the only way to get THE mayer-tone is to buy two-rock :(

  • thank you for posting this!

and btw: you sound a bit like Chase from house md. :p

  • Yes it does help, Many Thanks. I enjoyed your Guitar playing-well done.

I've had too many problems with my Hot Rod deluxe..the reverb's gone again, if I get it fixed, I will have spent as much money on repairs, as it costs to buy a new one! There was a design fault apparently..The new models are supposed to be better. It's put me off Fender, so am looking for a valve head/ 2x12 set-up...any thoughts/ideas appreciated. Thanks again, I want to hear more of your guitar playing..

  • @MultiMrPhill just get a two rock custom reverb 3.

  • The song is tuned down. That's why it sounds a little bright. He's in standard tuning.

  • @AfroDizzeac hell! its amazing

  • Nice. I like your vids. Keep that Funky Bluesy tone coming! I just posted a vid of my own for fun.

  • Can you tell me the full name of the Fender Deluxe? thank you

  • @100misslm Fender Hot Rod Deluxe in White lol - check my other videos I have done some demos of this amp

  • @intheblues yeah i searched on the internet and I found out that the white version was limited... that's right, right? lol I love this amp and especially in white version :). Im going to check out your videos right now :) thanks

  • @intheblues how much did this amp cost you?

  • @BitchYa09 I'm in Australia, land of overpriced EVERYTHING it was about 1500.00AU a few years ago before the US dollar died.

  • incredible tone man!

    what the pickups you use?

    Thanks.

  • @leowgtr They are SCN noiseless pickups

  • @intheblues are those the stock pickups on your strat?

  • Did I miss the guitar settings or they were not told?

  • @gaiolinn The point of it is to try and use your ear. All amps and speakers are different. Amps all sound different at various volumes too. My EQ setting for that room, that volume and my guitar is totally different to what someone else will have.

  • @intheblues Thing is, we have te exact same amp (unless you changed the hardware) and the exact same pickups.

I got the tone pretty close to yours (rest of guitar might be different as well and the room is surely different too) that's why I kind of wanted to know what the guitar settings were so I could check if that "almost there" was tone problem.

  • @gaiolinn Bass up to around 8 mids down to 4 tops down to 4 then play with the presence and reverb to suit.

  • i get a really sweet John Mayer tone with a Fender Bassman a holy grail reverb pedal and a Fender ami standard strat mixed with an Ibanez Ts-9.

I think you can get a Mayer tone out of every Fender amp + Fender Strat, just put the midds down and use at least 10s sting gauge i use 11s. The rest comes from the fingers.

Nice Playing by the way you really nailed the fender tone!

  • @1Guug those bassman amps are great! I need to check those things out cheers!

  • @intheblues

    they really are!

    giged with mine last time.

One tube was broken so that damn thing start distored at low volume but i played the whole gig with it xD

glad that i had a money back garantie so i went for antoher bassman and I just love the big bassi tone it makes!

  • Beautiful tone *_*.

  • What are your settings for your blues deluxe

  • Hi do you think that amp could get the out of my mind john mayers tone, its just the perfect tone but who has 10k to buy a two rock.

  • Awesome video....thanks for posting.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing mate.

  • for a more mayerish tone you've gotta boost the treble a little along with turning up the bass and rolling back the mids...otherwise the mids aren't truly scooped. also playing with the strat tone knobs will get you there

  • Great playing and tone! What would be a good Mayer compressor setting when using an MXR Custom Comp?

  • very beautiful tone.

  • Go to 1:19

  • yay i have exactly the same:D

  • the key for a JM sound is scooping the mids.

  • do you necessarily have to use your amp (dont know what version it is of thehot rod series) or can you use a other hot rod to get the similar tone (well........more or less)?

  • awesome tone

  • Excellent tone, not exactly like his, but sounds really great.

do you think i can get close to this using a Laney LC15R and a set of Texas Specials? or with another pups, weaker ones like Mayer's maybe.

    cheers

  • @AllanHP I'd say yes..

Youtube user "rob33cinema" owns a LC15R and a Strat with texas specials and he has a great tone (and plays awesome). Check him out ;)

  • What kind of guitar and puckups u using? :)

  • @Disciple1818 SC Noiseless (Fender)

  • @intheblues thanks for punching everyone in the face.. nailed it AND WITH NOISELESS .. kudos

  • Are you on the neck pickup? Sounds like the bridge to me but then again youtube doesn't have the greatest sound quality.

  • The amp he is using in the fender hot rod deluxe white lightning. Fender made 800 of them world wide. The only real difference it has from a stock black one is that it comes with a celestion G12 Century Vintage speaker.

  • hey mate

so thats a fender hot rod deluxe?? sounds awesome!!

did it come with those speakers and everything?

  • Comment removed

  • good job mate! Very useful! Thanks man!

  • What kind of pups are in your guitar?

  • is that a hot rod deluxe or blues deluxe?

  • Sounds great!

  • @OliverRayVaughan thanks man. We have enough people trying to copy some of the blues greats, Id rather add some originality to it. :) + I am not John Mayer either so yeah :) Cheers man!

  • I'm not bashing your playing bro, especially because I respect what you're doing with these videos, but you're totally playing the song wrong..unless you're playing the lower then higher harmonies. Correct me if I'm wrong haha :)

  • @loofonme I tried to work it out from ear a while back, yeah it's not exact but the chords are the same. I worked on it since.

  • i have that exact amp. it is sweeeet i love it.

  • @jalex1024 the best fender amp in years!

  • Loved this - thanks for posting! I have the same amp - except in Texas Red. The HR Deluxe often gets put down but you've just proved it's more than capable of producing a fantastic sound. Who the hell has $8K for a Two Rock anyway. Great playing - thanks for sharing.

  • @guitarjim74 the white, green and tweed ones sound 10x nicer than the black ones! the speakers make all the difference. :) Cheers for some nice comments mate.

  • @intheblues

Is it an Hot Rod Deluxe 112 Enclosure???

Is it true, that it `s a limited run???

If Yes, is it still available???

  • @Johann759

Oh sorry that `s only a box, but howyours is called?

  • @Johann759 The amp he is using in the fender hot rod deluxe white lightning. Fender made 800 of them world wide. The only real difference it has from a stock black one is that it comes with a celestion G12 Century Vintage speaker. They were only for sale in 2007. you can find them on EBAY from time to time. or jut buy a black one and put the G12 speaker in it (it will be the same thing)

  • @Johann759 yes and yes u can still get them

  • @Johann759 I loved this white version so much that I got the white cabinet for a deville 2x12... I have some videos using it. :)

  • @intheblues what speakers are on the limited edition colored ones?

  • @guitarjim74 this is the best amp out their for the money, people who slate it are normally beginners, as a proper musician knows the hrdx has a great tone, I am selling my for the simple reason it is to loud for bedroom use, getting a deluxe reverb or prince-tone reverb in its place, probable the deluxe reverb tho

  • This sounds nothing like johns two-rock tone lol

  • this is not the tone

  • @MrAlexito95 NO, just awful close to the tone, especially towards the end. Real close to the Slow Dancing clip with John in the Two Rock factory. Come on man, were talking $599 vs. north of $8K! Just goes to show you, solid foundational Fender clean tone gets you most of the way there. Remember, John recorded it with VibroKings on the original record.

  • @yjmsrv There were no vibro kings used on continuum . What are your sources? I've got pictures of all the amps used. There was a Marshall, Deluxe reverb and a Custom Reverb but no vibro. I assure you, 95% of all the cleans on that cd were Two Rock!

  • what type of speaker is in there?

  • @pastorofmuppets1499 G12 Vintage

  • wow. this amp seems to have the perfect natural compression. i've spent €100's on various compressor pedals inc Keeley and boss, maxon and mxr. cant get close to this natural compression. Great tone man. well done

  • Are you using his sig strat?

  • @thephamcookiemonster I think I was using a mexican strat with noiseless pickups

  • Great video, show others you don't need a $5K AMP, just a little talent, a nice strat with good pickups and a good clean tone foundation. I just use a Ceriatone 50-watt OTS, Replica Delay, Dr Scientist Reverb and Dumkudo OD pedal, while still having my own tone.

  • @T92780 thank you :)

  • nice video, nice tones!

  • cheers man

  • Nice sound! What Pickups were you using in this video?

    Thanks. :)

  • very cool tone, Shane !

    Stu

  • What kind of speaker?

  • Celestion G12

  • g12-what? there's a bunch of them

  • Vintage G12 Neodynium (or however you spell it)

  • thanks man..love your tone

  • @dompascarella cheers man thanks :)

  • Nice tones Shane and also real nice playin´. I just ordered a Ceriatone overtone special... i´m really looking forward to getting it!

  • sweeet sounds good! I heard a bit about those amps lately.

  • Love my fender deluxe amp!
