I miss Oingo Boingo alot still, but Im glad the coverband Deadmans Party is still going on. Wish they would reform Oingo Boingo with Rob from Deadmans Party to give Oingo Boingo Fans to see
i was thinking about that one, but what the heck... this year is almost over and I had no girl in which i can spend some time at xmas but there is always the family... hehe not the same but might work.... thanx! and yes it is a little dark as love hehe
This kind of music is what made me so different, and I love Elfman for that. I first heard this music as a child, and it's shaped me into something great. Such good tasteful music. So much essence!
Don't worry, dear--I'm convinced that Danny Elfman and Jeremy Irons are two of the sexiest men on the planet. One of them is 30+ years older than me, the other 40+.
You and me both! Jeremy Irons has one of the coolest voices in cinematic history. And as for Danny... It almost defies logic how one pale, crazy little redhead could have so many female fans that have totally lost their minds over him. But I wouldn't have it any other way!
So I was looking to find a song that speaks to how I am feeling right now, and I found it. Thank you Oingo Boingo! (Of course, there was no video on youtube for Apparition by No Use for a Name... oh well)
"Chocolate and peanut butter"? I'm unsure of the context in which this is used. The only thing I can assume is that it's what you'd like to cover Danny Elfman in, and if you do, I can assure you that I sympathize.
Lol...um, if anyone happened to read some of your other comments you've made about what you would like to do to Danny, they probably already think that. ;)
Really, now! I would merely like to ask for his autograph and thanks him for the many years of fine music. All that talk about jumping him onstage...jumping him backstage, and uh, his "stimulus package" must have been made by some pervert hacking into my account.
Dear god, that SOLO!! Steve definitely is capable of so much guitar-wise, if only they allowed him more opportunities to play the shit out of that thing!
This is amazing, thank you! Has anyone figured out what show this is from/how to get it? I've only seen the stuff from URGH! and Farewell. Oingo Boingo just has so much more ENERGY live. I'd love to see more.
This is from Irvine 10/27/93. The video is from the feed to the large screen at the venue. There are a lot of Boingo videos like this one floating around. Try the message boards at Bartek's site.
I was at a concert where Danny was hit in the face with a shoe thrown from th e audience. Does anyone recall what concert it was? I have seen boingo so many times, I can't remember them all. Was it around '88 or '89? If someone has video of it, that would be an awesome post! LOVE OINGO BOINGO!!
Dead Man's Party show at the Hollywood Palladium was my first conert ever. My cool cousin took me and we drank California Wine Coolers before the show (my first buzz too). Saw Boingo at least 10 times after that. I miss them more than all the rest. Does anyone have video/audio from the Palladium set?? To help ID it, he closed with Rawhide...
Jesus I feel old now to all your post. But I have seen almost EVERY single show they put on from the Dead man's party album. Shows from the Palladium to the old Irvine Meadows(Now Verizon). Just about Every Halloween show! Boy am I glad I was Old enough. Sorry kids;) You did miss out on one of...no scratch that the best Concerts I have EVER been to.
Irvine Meadows rocked. They would occasionally play Pacific Amphitheater too. I loved living in OC in the 80's. And you're right drvyris - the best concerts, ever. Great time to be a teenager! :)
Well now I feel like a real a-hole, hehe. Of course that's great, and I've always liked Bridget Fonda - but like you say, I wish he was happy with me. ;p
Yeah in art class about a month a go we were playing music, each person got a choice, so I put on Oingo Boingo...totally got a lot of people pissed off, being all, what's this shit. >,> Then they put on rap. Oh I hate people.
I'm with you there. I was born in '90. The generation before us really doesn't realize just how lucky they were to live through the 70s and 80s; the only two decent decades in music, in my opinion.
I guess I'm a LITTLE lucky, being born in '85, but I was still too young to enjoy Boingo. Those in their teens and twenties during that wonderful decade are truly blessed.
"A spark has passed between us now, a momentary recognition." I love that line. Wow, Danny is singing the heck out of that song. He's so weird... but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love it.
You know when you go to an arena show and they have a big screen to show what's going on to the people who are far, far away? Well, this is a recording of the live video being broadcast on the jumbotron with board audio. Somebody threw a tape in and recorded it, either an employee of the venue or someone in the band crew. Every show played at a big venue could've been recorded like this! Danny is a quality control freak, he won't even release the rarities, let alone anything like this!
Boingo is so fantastic, and Skin is probably my favorite song of theirs. He's passionate and such a performer.
From personal experience, it's almost impossible to hear yourself in the monitors when the drums and bass are there, so it's hard to stay perfect, even as a trained and experienced vocalist.
Have you tried singing live with a band on stage and not hear yourself? You will have to watch the guitarist or something to know where you are. I know how it is.
seriously song's in my top 5 and steve's solo is amazing, i miss boingo, i was to little to see them when they were still around. now all i get is the tribute...
Because there is time code on the track its from a master and the mix is board not mixed after in a studio be very lucky we can even see it, my question is does anyone have the entire concert?
Probably my favorite singer of all time. steve bartek is awesome too. I don't like to think of the bits that are out of tune as mistakes. He's just... relaxed. Would the replacements be as fondly remembered if every show was note for note perfect?
I remember seeing Boingo at Red Rocks in 1989 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers opening (just after Mothers Milk). Elfman pulled "aint this the life" off as the final encore, and couldnt remember the lyrics, had to grab a notebook with them. great show, great day
I am so incredibly jealous! I never got to see them live and that would have been an orgasmic show, simply to see boingo, and at red rocks!...never knew they opened for the chili peppers either...interesting.
Holy cow, I was at that show too! It was awesome. I have never been to a better show. I loved how after the Chilis were done half the crowd left and everyone got to move down towards the stage.
I love Boingo, and this is not a bad video, but I have to say: Though some parts of it are great, he is out of tune on several notes. Maybe it's because his voice was shot at this point in the show. Well, no one's perfect
Maybe because if you've ever been on stage before and sang with a band, unless the sound in the monitors are right, it's really hard to hear yourself. And it's easy to sing out of tune when you can't hear what you're singing.
You know what? I just went and watched/listened to this video again... and this time I didn't hear whatever notes I had previously thought were out of tune! I don't get it. I think maybe I'm insane. LOL. Oh well. Now I wish I'd never posted what I did initially.
Also, fans, go see the Johnny Vatos Halloween Band featuring former members of Oingo Boingo at The Greek or The Grove on 20 and 21 October, respectively. Yeah! Rock and roll!
I'm jealous. Yeah of the microphone but also that the guitar solo by Bartek wasn't released in the album recording. They always do stuff like that. Oh well.
Great song indeed, and from such a good album, too. Like this performance of it as well, would love to see more stuff from this show someday. While waiting for that to happen, however...*Joins others in envy of microphone*. That's another plus of this video-man, Danny looks good in this clip...
This is incredible! I've also wondered how this song would sound performed live. I think I actually like the live version better - the guitar in the background has so much more presence than the percussion in the studio version. Thank you so much for uploading this!! It's a joy to both listen and watch. Makes me wish I had been able to see Boingo live in concert!
THANK YOU!!! I have been wondering if any live footage of this song was ever done. This is my favorite Boingo song and it is a masterpiece! I am glad I found your post! :)
Great song and great band. The audio is terrible! I'm disappointed.

One fine sexy performance.

This is awesome! Looks like Danny is making love to that microphone... That's one lucky inanimate object.. *sigh* <3

THANK YOU!!! I have been wondering if any live footage of this song was ever done. This is my favorite Boingo song and it is a masterpiece! I am glad I found your post! :)
