  • They neeeeeed to revamp this one

  • If they are the "Sol" Star" order then why are they here? In the SOLar system?

Is he a good guy or what? I can't tell. I do like the old days where the people who made toys really thought out their accessories and game them depth

  • @Gnoekeos Oh yeah, doesn't get much "gooder" guy than ROM. He can't even kill Dire Wraiths --he banishes them to Limbo. If he accidentally kills one he gets all conflicted about it. Kinda like Spider Man with really heavy cyborg armor and a massive gun.

  • If they are the "Sol" Star" order then why are they here? In the SOLar system?

  • The comic version looked waay better than this toy. Looks like a funny robot, not the "Space Knight".

  • Robot Chicken.

  • 1:21 was the funny part

  • Chuk Norris Robot

  • ROM: The Immobile.

  • ....harry

  • ROM the Rape-Slayer!

  • ALLOFMYMONEY.JPEG

  • The Trail of the Diarrheash??

  • @BackOnZero I think it was Dire Wraiths

  • @BackOnZero I'm sure they meant to say Dire Wraiths (Normal wraiths just aren't cool unless they're dire!)

  • ROM SPACE KNIGHT VS ... JIM THE GUY WITH A GIANT MAGNET!!! (bum bum bum)

  • ROM's weapons sound a bit... villainous...

  • I think I would preffer - Rum the piratebewerage.

  • I bet that at the time, the lights made kids drop bricks in their pants.

  • This is the darkest and scariest toy commercial ever!

  • With all the reboots of old cartoons, anyone else think we'll be seeing a return of him in the comics?

  • what the helllllllll wazzat?

  • also, to a kid, this is a bunch of lies when they buy the toy and it doesn't do all of this

  • first two seconds....

    "Far, far away"

ohoho shit- that's a scary ass voice, sounds like Darth Sidious

  • buzz-lightyear??

  • Rom looked a LOT better in the comics.

  • What's weird is I was watching the "ROM: The Spaceknight Warrior" episode of That New Toy Smell earlier today.

  • why do robots need to breath?

  • @CrazyMeCrazyYou DO NOT QUESTION THE ROM. (Lol, I have no idea).

  • @CrazyMeCrazyYou Technically, ROM is a cyborg

  • i loved when they tried to sell toys like a boss

  • DO WANT

  • LOL ? ... ROFL ? :D

  • ROM SPACEKNIGHT VS FAT LAZY GUY WITH A MAGNET

  • Wow, the future was creepy.

  • harry???

  • @MrWigglesFTW i bet ya that Harry has one....LOL

  • The production model had red eyes.

  • I never really liked ROM, but his concepts are so totally badass! The Neutralizer, The Analyzer, The Universal Translator, what great ideas! It's just that retro robotic character design, ugh, if only they changed that, but everything else about him is so great.

  • WANT!. WANT! WANT!..

  • I'd buy that shit.

  • I didn't know that ROM the Spaceknight was a toy: I remember to have read some stories of him but I didn't know it was a toy.

    Guido.

  • Spartan ROM 117

  • I found a stack of these comics dirt cheap at a flea market once. Bought em all...mind warping greatness!!

  • i don't get it why Rom just didn't do better , i personally thought his story and the universe he belonged were cool.i was following the comic series as often as i could,as the newsagent just brought them in whenever he felt like.

at some point he even fought second generation "Terminators" (second generation advanced knights, with less moral issues :)

with a well rounded screen play it would make a kick ass movie, or cartoon series.

    R.I.P. Space Knights.

  • I had this toy when I was a Kid. And I do remember the comic book. It ran from 1980 to at leadt 1985. In fact I have the final issue in my collection. Rom was made officallly part of the Marvel Universe. Ironically, the Micronauts, another toy line from MEgo became part of the Marvel Universe as well.

  • ROM, the Spaceknight, he can do this...he can do that...his people are impressive. But Marvel has decided they are of no further use, the Spaceknights are...extinct...Phalanx got them, so sad.

hmmm, I wander if ROM would be considered for MvC3.

  • I WANT IT SOOOOOOO SOOOOOO SOOOOOO BAAAAAAD!!='(

(ANYONE HAVE THE COMICS UP FOR SALE?)

I have issues the fabulous first issue, lethal laserium, alone against the wraith horde, fear is firefall,it came from beyond the stars, and the realm of sub-marine.As you see there's many missing in between and I would LOVE to get my hands on 'em.Please message me if you are interested in selling!!PLEASE?!

  • If I were rich I'd buy the rights to the movie.

  • I actually still have this figure. He is missing a few accessories but he still functions.

  • rom was cool in the comics. he fought powerman and iron fist and also the incredible hulk. i remember him encountering the skrulls and wondering if the species were somehow related to the other shapeshifters known as the dire wraiths. cool stuff. i always wanted him to fight machine man.

  • @jamiirali1 Rom # 50 expounds on the connection between the Dire Wraiths and Skrulls. They are related.

  • i had this toy as a kid. it rocked

  • one of these knights can also use his head to brown or toast.

  • I'm almost done with a water color rendition of ROM in a space battle scene along side with his fellow space knights. if anyone is interested in seeing it just email my aol account which has daywalkr as the screen name so i can send it to you. i can't write out the email as it's shown other wise this comments page one post.

    David from Cal.

  • Currently reading the comic series for ROM. The only thought I have on ROM is "cool!" And looking at this commercial I think I remember why he seemed so cool. Never had the figure, but I had friends who had him, so I got to see at least that.

  • My Dad bought me this toy when it came out and it was one of my favorite toys of my childhood for sure. I remember mine had the red eyes. It was cooler as well compared to the green ones. My dad is awesome, he bought me all the cool toys. I was lucky.

  • i like the eyes and the sounds

  • haha, my name's ROM

  • Sounds like the Doctor with a bad attitude and a gun.

  • They came up with an impressive back-story/mythology, considering that this toy came BEFORE the comic book series. They invented that whole back-story just for a toy. Pretty cool!

  • Had ROM the Space Knight, but I much preferred my Micronauts Force Commander!

  • Had a ROM and it looked cool but boring fast but it was a well made and durable toy! I still have my Big Trak and Transporter too!

  • Easily the coolest toy waiting for me on Xmas morning many, many years ago. After all these years, I still own it and it still works!!

  • I actually have a Rom the Space Knight & Power Man & Iron Fist crossover that is pretty damn bizzare to say the least. Like the comics, it's just a readable ad.

  • Rom paved the way for such other toy lines/ comic book franchises as Star Wars, GI Joe, He-Man & Masters of the Universe, & Transformers.

  • I used to have the Rom action figure too. I also used to read the Marvel comic book based on the character. Oddly, the comic book was much more successful then the action figure was.

  • Wonder how much one o those things go for these days...

  • i have a bunch of the old comics ^_^

  • Ideal for home defense.

  • From Wikipedia:

"The toy set a precedent for the game publishing company, which up until that time had only ever produced board games. As this was a new venture for the company and electronic toys were still very new, a decision was made to produce the figure as cheaply as possible. As a result, the final product had very few points of articulation, and twin red LEDs served as Rom's eyes instead of the originally envisioned green, which were more expensive to produce."

  • I loved my ROM toy. Mine had red eyes, too — the commercial was probably a prototype model. In one of those "it's a wonder I'm still alive" moments of childhood, I hooked up the battery connectors in ROM's backpack compartment to wires. To the other ends of the wires I connected paper clips. I slid one in one opening of a wall socket. Nothing. Then the other... BZZZZZT! Rom's eyes glowed very bright for half a second. And then never glowed again. Someone I didn't get hurt. Dumb kid.

  • mine had red eyes. I think the toy came out a little before the comic .

  • It did.

  • Had ole Rom as well. Enjoyed the comic as well. Dang. Youtube does bring back some joyful memories!

  • ^_^ ¡!¡ ROM RULZ !¡!

  • I'm reading this series again.

It seems to have had a lot of potential.

    Ever see Starriors?

  • Rom, Starshine and Terminator (Well before Arnold) were the ultimate bad-asses. Then in a truly Painful twist of fate, Terminator murdered someone who seemed innocent. Terminator is one of the most tragic heroes in all of Marvel's history. I won't say anything more for now.

  • This was a great toy, my cousin had it. I was into the comic,, which was terrific. Implanting the brains/spinal columns of volunteers into neuro-armor to defend their planet is a wonderufl premise.

  • Umm, if you're a comic purist, the commercial got the Translator and Analizer backwards. I had a Rom when I was 10. I broke the hand off one time and took back to The Parker Bros' factory (then located in Salem MA.) to see if they could fix it. They said "sure," and disappered into the back room with my figure. 20 mins later they came back with the hand all fixed. Except they *didn't* fix it--they just got me a new one. I always thought that was cool of them.

  • I still have my ROM, complete and in perfect condition, just like Christmas morning 1979.

    Thanks for posting, NeverNews.

  • Oh my GOD, that felt like two hours! And I'm OLD, and I remember the toy, but that commercial had more exposition than most movies these days. Also, you can hear the voice over guy's wet tongue in between words. Disgusting! And, for a space knight, Rom sure had skinny arms.

  • Hilarious! I was thinking the exact same thing about that horrible wet tongue noise.

  • I had this! This was my favorite toy back in the day. I had the comics too. I need to get them and this toy again. Thank you for posting this.

  • I didn´t know about it. I knew ROM from the Marvel Comics books only. I think this toy wasn´t launched here on Brazil.

  • Come on Hollywood. Make this into a Movie

  • "A spaceknight like Rom, consume planets like Unicron, blasting photon bombs from the arms like Galvatron"

    - RZA, Wu-Tang Clan

    Damn. Right.

  • Call me ROM, Spaceknight

    For I am he!

    I rock the house

    Just like Kenny G!

    Bitchslap my girl

    By name of Brandy!

    Frying Dire Wraiths,

It's no wonder that I'm the one they call....

    ROM, SPACEKNIGHT!

    - HB3

  • i had that toy, forgot about it until robot chicken was on tv tonight.

    Damn i'm old lol

  • I wanted this toy back then had several issues of the comic...

  • Is that the coolest toy add I've ever seen or the lamest toy add I've ever seen? i've yet to decide.

  • Loved the Rom comics.I have collected many cgc Rom's my home page found search:

    proism rom cgc

All the images I have so far are there it is a work in progress! hope to see his return some time soon!!

  • i never had the toy(i wish i did) but i

really loved the Marvel comic book...i would

love to see a movie or an animation on Rom.

  • Fantastic. I still have all my ROM comics...only the early ones have ads for the toy in 'em...then the ads went away, but the comic lived on..Thanks for this!

  • I wanted one of these so badd.

  • I wish I still had mine. :(

  • i love rom.

  • Rom the space knight kick ass!!!

  • Loved the comics, had the toy. Wish I still did. It was Parker Bros. only attempt at a action figure wasn't it? ROM just made a cameo in south park FYI...

  • I don't think this was ever a commercial. I remember only one ROM commercial back in 1979 and it didn't mention the dire wraiths.

I loved the comic book, it was my favorite (after star wars of course)

  • You're probably right. It was a long time ago and I only really recall a glimpse or two of the commercial you're talking about. Mainly the flashing light from the Universal Translator. I just assumed this was what I saw those glimpses from. I loved the comic book too. I still got a bunch of them.

  • It's a promotional video shown in the booth at toy marketing conventions on a loop.

  • So long. It's been so long since I last saw this on tv. And I think it was only once. This is the first time I ever saw this commercial in its entirety that I can remember. I noticed a couple of errors in it. The box-like device with the two handles is the Universal Translator. The third device shown and mentioned is the Analyzer.

  • jim can own him T_T

  • OMG, how awesome! I had one, man am I an old geezer or what? It's funny how long and plodding the toy commercials were in the 70sand early 80s...

  • LOVE IT!

I still have my ROM: Spaceknight toy along with the complete comic book collection!

  • The narrative looks familiar...

  • Rom Spaceknight was my favorite comic book.

  • HAIL ROM!

  • That is the best.

  • AWESOME!!
