@sunderlandoful No, Imovie doesn't support p2 at all. You would need to convert the files. This article should lead you in the right direction. It is for the HVX200, however it is the same process as working with HPX170 p2 footage:
@stephendemaria I can't post the link, but if you search google for: "Transcode Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2 MXF files to AIC for iMovie," it should be the top search result at anddev.org
@stephendemaria Using adobe premiere, importing via USB device.. When i copy and paste the maps ( shown in video ) the files i get are MXF files i dont know if that has any effect when i import it in to adobe premiere CS 5,5
I use Vegas Pro 9 and I realise I need to use something like Raylight or Cineform to edit the files, but the problem I have is that the computer just does not seem to "see" the camera when it's connected with either firewire or USB. The manual states that this will be the case until the P2 drivers and P2 viewer are properly installed and this is where I am haviing problems. I cannot even find the P2 viewer on the supplied CD. The manual is very confusing. Thanks for your quick reply. David
Stephen, this is very good, but would you make a video one step back i.e how to get the software that comes with the camcorder onto a computer and then running properly? That is where I am at the moment because the instruction manual is written for geeks. Cheers. David
Hey David, as far as I have experienced it, there is no need for special software or firmware unless you are plugging your P2 card directly into the computer. Having said that, there are certain editing software platforms that do not read P2 files. Final Cut Pro starts supporting P2 at FCP version 6.0 and up, version 5.0 does not support P2. The earliest version of AVID Media Composer that I know supports P2 is version 3.0. What editing platform do you use?
Life saver. Thx

Steve thanks for the video. You ever think about doing a voice over for a computer.
You have a monotone voice:-)

@kleyon11
That's just my voice for 3.3 megapixel- third inch CCD chip cameras.
