  • I love SonicState! I've been listening to them for many months and I feel really confident that their opinions are honestly expressed. If the product is a lemon, they won't sugar-coat their review.

I'm mostly interested in the nanoKontrol, but at this price it would be worth it to really minimize having to do things w/a mousepad on my laptop.

Anyway, keep up the good work SS!

  • do you need to download anything on your computer to use it?

  • @TheButteryMe Nope! But you do need to download the free software to edit the CC's.

  • @TheYoa01 what are ccs?

  • @TheButteryMe MIDI signals are called CC's. Everything that is a MIDI signal has a CC number.

  • @TheYoa01 how much memory does that take?

  • @TheButteryMe next to none.

  • at 2:49 how did you get those sound samples to trigger on the pad??

  • KORG nanokey sucks ass. I bought it about 6 months ago and one of the keys broke. I played it normally (wasn't smashing my finger on it) and the 25th key popped-out.

The new KORG nanokey 2 might be better, but I won't fall for it twice. Seriously guys, invest a few more bucks on something that will certainly last longer than 6 months... I know I will.

  • can you load you're own sounds on the pad ?

  • @Cornel001P Yeah you have to, its only a midi controller.

  • @Cornel001P a dont no

  • can u use this n a guitar amp

  • can i use this with virtual dj 7?

  • the old man is very good... lol

  • how do you get the korg kontrol editor?

  • could you please do a review of the Nano2 series? thanks

  • Okay, you said pitch bend on the X/Y pad would that also include pitch bend on melodic patches that you play on the NanoKey, for example? (Or, say, an Akai LPK25?)

  • dammit... that beat on 2:40 is frikkin sick :P

  • @wolfyness But the video is cut so guessing he recorded the song and then made it seem easier to play. Not entirely sure if Im going for the nano set myself. Buying gear for my home studio in a few days and really caught between models for midi-instruments :S Any faves for least money Sonic + co?

  • @Liamandrewmusic I got the LPK25 and the LPD8... my comment didn't work. After seeing this video I have been researching a lot of stuff. I dont use them a lot tho. Need more training. I miss my MPC2000XL

  • that is one of the best reviews ever! :)

  • im debating on whether to buy this or not. can anyone tell me if the XY pad will work on synth sample as well as drum samples ?

  • can you record the music that you make ?

  • @PaGrue96 yes, but you need a DJ software like traktor or virtualDJ

  • @PaGrue96 @HypnoticPwns

You don't need DJ software to record anything. DJ software is for DJing.

The generic use for this device in music production is with a sequencer software like Pro Tools (I think that's the on in the video), Ableton Live or FL Studio. These software packages can export sound files. You could try a free one, like MuLab, if you don't already have one.

  • CERCL

  • when you did the little demo of this did those sounds come on it already? if not were did u get them?

  • BEST VIDEO I SEEN, THANKS ALLOOOOOT.

  • can this be used to trigger a sample or bass drop?

  • @masterzen149

It depends on what daw you use.

  • can someone tell me what CC number control the Roll effect?

For example if want to control Roll with a knob, wath can I do?

    thanks

  • nicee! looks great

  • Is it best to combine nanoKONTROL with nanoPAD or nanoKONTROL with nanoKEY?

I can only afford two of the devices at the same time so I don't know if I should buy key or pad.

  • TELL ME THE LINK YOU DOWNLOADED THE SOFTWARE FROM

  • Can you set up looping via the software?.. or do I have to route it into my PC, then out into my loop pedal then into speaker?

  • seeing you hit yourself in the face with the nanopad made my day. That was hilarious.

  • i mean will this work with cubase!! sorry!

  • @hallal55 lol! ebay. im sure he got what you said

  • will this work with ebay? or should i get an mpc

  • does this work with flstudio?

  • Can I have this?? Im sure it is just sitting around... pm me !!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. I have a question. May i set the Nanopad with garageband in a Mac.?

  • Your reviews are excellent, thank you!

  • Don't buy this shit. Akai's LPD8 is way more durable and functional for around the same price. Korg's nano products are cheaply built and as they say, you get what you pay for. With Akai products, no matter the price, you know you're getting a quality instrument.

  • See, at 0:50 that's what happens when you don't read the instructions!

  • rofl at 0.50 !

  • I got a problem. I have nanopad but everytime I map a pad to one of the clips I have on Ableton and I trigger them I have a 3 sec delay. I mean, I press the pad and after 3 sec the sample is played....I dont know if this is something that has to be fixed form ableton ot my nanopad is broken out of the box...

  • can you play stuff like the intro to Linkin Parks Numb on this thing??

  • I bought a Nano Pad specifically for it's X-Y pad for use in Ableton. However I can't figure out how to re-assign the X-Y controls using either Live's one-touch midi-mapping or the Nano Pad's editor software :(

  • Your reviews are the only ones i trust cause u actually go through everything about the product. Keep it up

  • can the nanopad trigger mp3 (non-MIDI) sounds, i.e. bits of audio samples, like an MPC can?

  • un-biased reviews. love it.

  • tha nano pad is kool i think i may get one

  • hahahah dangerous nano pad

  • i got a questions

can u play with voices with that? like, hook it up to a laptop, and hook up a mic to the laptop and play with it?

    thanks

  • hahah this dude is funny!

  • My Nanopad stop making Sound!!! HELP Me!!!

  • Hey, love the vid. Nice clear review. I was wondering the program you have up at 3:19. Can you assign drum sounds to the pads with that software. Is it free with the nanopad? and can you assign wierd synth sounds aswell as drums with it?

  • how does it work with reason? Can you trigger the sounds from reason?

  • Does this work with a PC? I'm looking into nano series and I really need to know.

  • nice review, is it possible to use 2 nanoPADs (or more) at the same time through the same laptop/PC?

  • 0:51 !!!!

  • I have this same model,& buyers beware!! It is a COMPLETE PIECE OF SHIT!!! KORG'S Customer Service department SUCKS elephant ASS!!! STEER clear of this piece of crap w/ pads!!

  • i lol'd @ the clip of you hitting your face with the nano pad.

    childish, i know. haha.

  • @52 DOH!

  • Could i use this to make some beats? Like the stuff that LIGHTS and Owlcity use in there songs? I knwo they use synthesizers but could i the nanopad to make simple techno and synthpop beats?

  • Does this come with that KorgKontrol software??

please write back, contemplating getting this :)

  • 0:02 radiohead....anyone? 0:51 LMFAO

You make the best reviews, this nanopad seems to be great

  • using korg control editor, can you import your own wav filed samples?

  • i just bort this can you loop with it ?

  • yeah its like 50 bucks.. its obviously not like an mpc style drum machine or anything.. for how cheap it is it looks like a super good little product... and use ableton or the program it comes with... your 'cue points' can be samples.. just assign a sample to the pad...

  • I just bought the nano pad...and i want to use it for dropping samples(not cue points)...

can anyone suggest me one cool program(for mac os 10.6) to do my job??

    Thnxxx :)

  • I've heard this has some reliability issues. Anyone care to comment on that?

  • I would say that the trigger is not nearly as um consistent as my mpc hooked up via midi or my NI maschine when in controller mode (or normal for that matter). but I would buy one again. very very useful though I haven't tried the similar akai version.

  • Can u use a PC with this ?

  • is he using logic?

  • yep

  • nano series <3 got this and nano keys, (L) studio at my fingertips

  • 2:39

  • I wonder HOw many People Tried Using ur Discount Coupon Code

  • Does it work with ProTools?

  • yap

  • haha didnt look like he knew how to use the flam mode

  • is there a chord that transfers USB out put to a traditional MIDI input? Im trying to find a cheap midi controller for my korg emx-1.

  • Can you input your own samples into this? If so, how do you do it?

  • it is a midi controller only

  • @1999sickness No. You can also use it as a large butter knife. Plus it doubles up as an emergency paddle, for those pesky occasions when you are negotiating river canyon rapids in your kayak, and lose your regular one.

Rumour has it, the national Sri Lankan cricket team will even be batting with them this year.

  • @Llitsor NanoPad = biggest pile of crap ever produced by a music instrument manufacturer. 2 x units DOA so I'm going to spend my time trying to do £60 worth of damage to Korg's reputation. Which is probably a drop in the ocean compared to the damage Korg themselves have caused. Avoid at all costs!

  • @Llitsor LMFAO .. Man, You're Fucking Hillarious !!

  • why are people giving this a thumbs down? he is correct it's just a midi pad controller. no brains in it.

  • is it possible to trigger samples via nanopad from the laptop...what software do i need and is there a freeware or could i do it with the standart software?

  • radiohead at start[=

  • No it isnt, its an original composition

  • Cause it is u dick....listen to the start of "Sail To The Moon" by Radiohead....get it right!

  • it's from the intro to Backdrifts from Radiohead

  • @sonicstate no!, at the very start it IS radiohead

  • @sonicstate

Okay, so you copied that part from the radiohead song...

  • @RichieRich1986 Actually, the sound is from a commercially available sample collection, which pre dates the RH song. Seems like were weren't the only ones to spot a good sound....

  • @sonicstate Okay, my bad, but then it's originally neither radioheads nor your creation ;)

  • @RichieRich1986 I think i was refering to the end credits when I saw the initial comment (way back) - which I know to be completely original - I wrote it. But the intro is more of as sound design thing I would say, created by someone for us, but yes I guess you could say that.

  • @sonicstate Hi I have a question, is korg nano pad sensitive to intensity of touch, I mean like when I strike a certain pad stronger than the certain drum is going to be louder and vice versa. I wanna buy something like this to use it with my ezdrummer software, but I want something that is touch sensitive. Thank you for your answer and sorry for my bad english.

  • @FreshFromTheVinyl , yeah it totally is...

  • i kno this is but i cant remember what song it is?

    DO you kno man?

  • i kno it is but what song

  • great review!

  • so this does work on logic and Fl studio? i dont need that discounted software?

  • It works with every software where you can map MIDI. So i'm pretty sure it works with both Logic and FL Studio as most modern DAWs has this function. Read up on MIDI-mapping for the software you would like to use it with, and you'll be a wiser man. MIDI is MIDI. If you cannot map it you can just use a software to make the DAW think it's keyboard or something.

  • It should work with any software.... even garageband?

  • Garageband does not work well with midi controllers. It isn't possible to assign midi keys, knobs, etc to the actual controller.

  • Does it work if I'm making a beat on Scene 1, holding it, and then change to Scene 2 to play some other sounds underneath? So could it memorise and play the beat in Scene 1, while I'm crossing between the scenes to use another sounds?

    Thank you

  • no. unless you recorded those Midi events and looped them in something like Ableton.

  • lolz at 0:50 XD

  • Hahhahaa I was just gonna comment on that.

Ace review bro, and dope finger skills :P

  • that was a tight beat you made

  • does software come with this?

  • Yes and no, You get a coupon for a discount for ableton's Live and you get a code for a "demo" version for Toontrack's EZDrummer. the Lite version comes with 2 drum kits, and also a discount if you plan on buying the real thing.

Mind you, I only have the nanoPAD so I don't know about the other ones,

  • I got a question . Im a metal guitarist and im currently looking for something to make drum beats for songs(using alot of double bass kicks)but im on a really tight budget so im not sure if this could benefit me someone please let me know thank you!

  • To be honest, probably not, on its own the nanoPAD doesnt make any sound, it only controls the software giving you pads to hit to trigger any sounds you may have running in the computer. if you already have a PC and some software that will make the sort of drum sounds you are after, then yeah, this might make it easier to play. But maybe you are looking for a drummachine, you should pick something up cheap on ebay

  • ohh ok makes sense im using a imac as for programs i have garage band, logic pro 8 and reaper so im not sure what to use or do at this point

im looking for something to be able to make songs you know

    thanks for replying bro :)

  • Well if you already have the software, then this will work fine for triggering the sounds. With GB and Logic Pro 8, you have plenty of sound sources to work with.

  • @sonicstate wait. doesnt this come with ezdrummerlite so yeah he should be able to use it straight out of the box without having any other software.

  • Depends, if you don't have any softwares like Cubase, Fl Studio, etc... you won't be able to record nor play anything with it. The softwares that comes with it are a download code for Abelton's Live and Toontrack's EZDrummer. EZD is a vst that emulates a drum kit. The demo version (the one that comes with the PAD) only offers a single drum kit (pop/rock) and a 2nd one (if you download some freebies from korg's website). I'm a metal bassist and when I can't find a drummer to jam...

  • (cont.)...I use ezdrumer to do my drum track. Since ezdrumer is a VST you can run it on nearly any softwares that uses VSTs (if you have reason you are screwed)

Final note: Personally I'm in love with the nanoPAD and ezdrummer has an expension called "drumkit from hell" which is mainly a metal drum set and sounds. So if you have friends who can crack programs (I never said that) or can scrape a few bucks, go with the nanoPAD and ezdrummer.

If you have any questions, just contact me via PM.

  • @mario101 Hey man i know you posted this like a year ago but im in pretty much the same spot you were in. did you ever find anything good to make double bass beats?

  • shit, i meant, would the nano pad be good to use with reason 4? sorry, i'm sick right now and my conversation skills are kinda down the tubes :P.

  • Would the Nano series be good to use with korg?

  • hahahahhahaha

  • can i use the x y touch controler in nanoPAD to controle any controller i want in live?

  • can anyone tell me if this is a good product to buy for producing dubstep or drum and bass. if so what music software would you recommend to buying as an addition to it

  • for drum and bass yeah..it's perfect for making beats

  • i was wondering to buy this or to buy korg koass pad 3... but that one was without keyboard. i wanna do some looping stuff XD

  • yh. same a looping setting, beat recorder and tempo change would really give this product an edge. i would go for a koas pad 3. but it all depends on the type of music you want to make.

  • would there be a way of useing the x-y pad to modulate other stuff ? eg, the nano-key

  • lol. if sombody wants ableton live use the coupon he showt

    ;)

  • cant se what the code is on the coupon ,where what program is it for version

  • haha hows your face?

  • Great review, told me a lot more than other videos I've seen.

  • r wait until akai lpd8 come out in sept

  • those things are dangerous... lol

  • he got pwnd in the face by the pad haha :)

  • mine wont plug and play :(. I've installed the korg kontrol editor and the korg usb midi driver. I have windows vista 64. Any suggestions?

  • what program do you use

  • I got mine to work. After downloading a million different drivers. I cant really get the korg kontrol editor to work though. It wont save any of my mappings for some reason.

  • Yeah, that thing was tricky

  • Shit man! Me too! I couldnt get it to work on my laptop that had vista

  • Thanks for the review. I listen to your podcasts regularly. Now, I know what you look like too. Cheers!

  • I love these reviews

  • WIll the editor thats comes with it let you sample music? Thanks.

  • I've bought it coulpe weeks ago, but couldn't use the Y surface as Modulation... Are you sure that we can use it for that? my pitch bend is ok though.

  • Which program do you used? have nanopad too but no program :s ez drummer dont work and only the ableton trial version.. and no idea how to mapping

  • I think he uses Logic Pro.

  • I tried that, it's so stupidly complicated to make it actually work -_-

I gave up in the end

  • I meant:

    "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 0:50"

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA O:50

  • Where do I get this "Korg Control Editor" software that shows up at 3:21?

    Thanks for the info.

  • It's all in the instructions. It will tell you to go to the website and you download it from there :P

  • From what I can tell, the controller app is not available on the Korg US site. I had to get it from the UK site.

  • I've got this nanopad

I plug it into my latop but it makes no sound D:

I don't have any software for it.

Someone help me out, I have no idea how to make it work?

  • uhh its a midi. do you mean it doesnt make sound from the device or your laptop?

  • That it makes no sound when it's plugged into my laptop, my laptop needs attached speakers, that have a medi in port.

  • no.. anything that says "midi" is only hardware, it doesn't come with any sounds. you'll need to get a computer software like Garage band on an Mac. if you have a PC there are tons of Synth software that have a billion sounds that your nano can trigger to make the sounds. i don't know how much you understand midi but hit me up if i can help answer more questions.

  • Sounds like you bought before you thought.

  • its near enough korgs padkontroll

  • i was gunna get this and the nano key

anyone have any suggestions on what plugins i should get for both

i am just getting into midi :D

  • Actually it was 44 € not 59 in december. Maybe he doesnt like the Euro like the most britsh ;)

  • do you have to use a lab top

    with this

  • anything with usb

  • nope

  • 0:50 ftw :D

  • comment of the year

  • Lol, this reviewer is great

  • So, does it come with software that you can use to play sounds out of the box?

  • its midi

  • you get ezDrummer, which is a plugin soim not shure if you can use it as a stand alone product. at least for macs anyway. hope that helps

  • Can I control the beats from nanopad on Kaoss Pad 3 ? Like sampling/adding an effect ?
