I love SonicState! I've been listening to them for many months and I feel really confident that their opinions are honestly expressed. If the product is a lemon, they won't sugar-coat their review.
I'm mostly interested in the nanoKontrol, but at this price it would be worth it to really minimize having to do things w/a mousepad on my laptop.
KORG nanokey sucks ass. I bought it about 6 months ago and one of the keys broke. I played it normally (wasn't smashing my finger on it) and the 25th key popped-out.
The new KORG nanokey 2 might be better, but I won't fall for it twice. Seriously guys, invest a few more bucks on something that will certainly last longer than 6 months... I know I will.
Okay, you said pitch bend on the X/Y pad would that also include pitch bend on melodic patches that you play on the NanoKey, for example? (Or, say, an Akai LPK25?)
@wolfyness But the video is cut so guessing he recorded the song and then made it seem easier to play. Not entirely sure if Im going for the nano set myself. Buying gear for my home studio in a few days and really caught between models for midi-instruments :S Any faves for least money Sonic + co?
@Liamandrewmusic I got the LPK25 and the LPD8... my comment didn't work. After seeing this video I have been researching a lot of stuff. I dont use them a lot tho. Need more training. I miss my MPC2000XL
You don't need DJ software to record anything. DJ software is for DJing.
The generic use for this device in music production is with a sequencer software like Pro Tools (I think that's the on in the video), Ableton Live or FL Studio. These software packages can export sound files. You could try a free one, like MuLab, if you don't already have one.
Don't buy this shit. Akai's LPD8 is way more durable and functional for around the same price. Korg's nano products are cheaply built and as they say, you get what you pay for. With Akai products, no matter the price, you know you're getting a quality instrument.
I got a problem. I have nanopad but everytime I map a pad to one of the clips I have on Ableton and I trigger them I have a 3 sec delay. I mean, I press the pad and after 3 sec the sample is played....I dont know if this is something that has to be fixed form ableton ot my nanopad is broken out of the box...
I bought a Nano Pad specifically for it's X-Y pad for use in Ableton. However I can't figure out how to re-assign the X-Y controls using either Live's one-touch midi-mapping or the Nano Pad's editor software :(
Hey, love the vid. Nice clear review. I was wondering the program you have up at 3:19. Can you assign drum sounds to the pads with that software. Is it free with the nanopad? and can you assign wierd synth sounds aswell as drums with it?
I have this same model,& buyers beware!! It is a COMPLETE PIECE OF SHIT!!! KORG'S Customer Service department SUCKS elephant ASS!!! STEER clear of this piece of crap w/ pads!!
Could i use this to make some beats? Like the stuff that LIGHTS and Owlcity use in there songs? I knwo they use synthesizers but could i the nanopad to make simple techno and synthpop beats?
yeah its like 50 bucks.. its obviously not like an mpc style drum machine or anything.. for how cheap it is it looks like a super good little product... and use ableton or the program it comes with... your 'cue points' can be samples.. just assign a sample to the pad...
I would say that the trigger is not nearly as um consistent as my mpc hooked up via midi or my NI maschine when in controller mode (or normal for that matter). but I would buy one again. very very useful though I haven't tried the similar akai version.
@1999sickness No. You can also use it as a large butter knife. Plus it doubles up as an emergency paddle, for those pesky occasions when you are negotiating river canyon rapids in your kayak, and lose your regular one.
Rumour has it, the national Sri Lankan cricket team will even be batting with them this year.
sticking my nose where it doesn't belong but you do realize his comment was a statement not a question "it is a midi controller only " which is correct. or are you replying to something else? sorry.
@Llitsor NanoPad = biggest pile of crap ever produced by a music instrument manufacturer. 2 x units DOA so I'm going to spend my time trying to do £60 worth of damage to Korg's reputation. Which is probably a drop in the ocean compared to the damage Korg themselves have caused. Avoid at all costs!
is it possible to trigger samples via nanopad from the laptop...what software do i need and is there a freeware or could i do it with the standart software?
@RichieRich1986 Actually, the sound is from a commercially available sample collection, which pre dates the RH song. Seems like were weren't the only ones to spot a good sound....
@RichieRich1986 I think i was refering to the end credits when I saw the initial comment (way back) - which I know to be completely original - I wrote it. But the intro is more of as sound design thing I would say, created by someone for us, but yes I guess you could say that.
@sonicstate Hi I have a question, is korg nano pad sensitive to intensity of touch, I mean like when I strike a certain pad stronger than the certain drum is going to be louder and vice versa. I wanna buy something like this to use it with my ezdrummer software, but I want something that is touch sensitive. Thank you for your answer and sorry for my bad english.
It works with every software where you can map MIDI. So i'm pretty sure it works with both Logic and FL Studio as most modern DAWs has this function. Yes and no, You get a coupon for a discount for ableton's Live and you get a code for a "demo" version for Toontrack's EZDrummer. the Lite version comes with 2 drum kits, and also a discount if you plan on buying the real thing.
Mind you, I only have the nanoPAD so I don't know about the other ones,
I got a question . Im a metal guitarist and im currently looking for something to make drum beats for songs(using alot of double bass kicks)but im on a really tight budget so im not sure if this could benefit me someone please let me know thank you!
To be honest, probably not, on its own the nanoPAD doesnt make any sound, it only controls the software giving you pads to hit to trigger any sounds you may have running in the computer. if you already have a PC and some software that will make the sort of drum sounds you are after, then yeah, this might make it easier to play. But maybe you are looking for a drummachine, you should pick something up cheap on ebay
Well if you already have the software, then this will work fine for triggering the sounds. With GB and Logic Pro 8, you have plenty of sound sources to work with.
Depends, if you don't have any softwares like Cubase, Fl Studio, etc... you won't be able to record nor play anything with it. The softwares that comes with it are a download code for Abelton's Live and Toontrack's EZDrummer. EZD is a vst that emulates a drum kit. The demo version (the one that comes with the PAD) only offers a single drum kit (pop/rock) and a 2nd one (if you download some freebies from korg's website). I'm a metal bassist and when I can't find a drummer to jam...
(cont.)...I use ezdrumer to do my drum track. Since ezdrumer is a VST you can run it on nearly any softwares that uses VSTs (if you have reason you are screwed)
Final note: Personally I'm in love with the nanoPAD and ezdrummer has an expension called "drumkit from hell" which is mainly a metal drum set and sounds. So if you have friends who can crack programs (I never said that) or can scrape a few bucks, go with the nanoPAD and ezdrummer.

@mario101 Hey man i know you posted this like a year ago but im in pretty much the same spot you were in. did you ever find anything good to make double bass beats?
can anyone tell me if this is a good product to buy for producing dubstep or drum and bass. if so what music software would you recommend to buying as an addition to it
yh. same a looping setting, beat recorder and tempo change would really give this product an edge. i would go for a koas pad 3. but it all depends on the type of music you want to make.
I got mine to work. After downloading a million different drivers. I cant really get the korg kontrol editor to work though. It wont save any of my mappings for some reason.
I've bought it coulpe weeks ago, but couldn't use the Y surface as Modulation... Are you sure that we can use it for that? my pitch bend is ok though.
no.. anything that says "midi" is only hardware, it doesn't come with any sounds. you'll need to get a computer software like Garage band on an Mac. if you have a PC there are tons of Synth software that have a billion sounds that your nano can trigger to make the sounds. i don't know how much you understand midi but hit me up if i can help answer more questions.
I love SonicState! I've been listening to them for many months and I feel really confident that their opinions are honestly expressed. If the product is a lemon, they won't sugar-coat their review.

DrakeakaDrizzyfan123 2 years ago
I got mine to work. After downloading a million different drivers. I cant really get the korg kontrol editor to work though. It wont save any of my mappings for some reason.

Yeah, that thing was tricky

Where do I get this "Korg Control Editor" software that shows up at 3:21?
Thanks for the info.

It's all in the instructions. It will tell you to go to the website and you download it from there :P
fionnathon1992 2 years ago
From what I can tell, the controller app is not available on the Korg US site. I had to get it from the UK site.

I've got this nanopad
I plug it into my latop but it makes no sound D:
I don't have any software for it.
Someone help me out, I have no idea how to make it work?
braduz578 2 years ago
uhh its a midi. do you mean it doesnt make sound from the device or your laptop?
watwatwhywat 2 years ago
That it makes no sound when it's plugged into my laptop, my laptop needs attached speakers, that have a medi in port.
braduz578 2 years ago
no.. anything that says "midi" is only hardware, it doesn't come with any sounds. you'll need to get a computer software like Garage band on an Mac. if you have a PC there are tons of Synth software that have a billion sounds that your nano can trigger to make the sounds. i don't know how much you understand midi but hit me up if i can help answer more questions.
