Find Peter Schiff videos on youtube! He is an American and right on the money for years! America is bankrupt and dollar is worthless piece of ... sh*t. Better wake up or you will finish in one of the FEMA Camps.
Peter Schiff has been full of shit all of his life. Yes he has been right the past year but that's about it. He doesn't even manage his own fund he just makes suggestions to clients. The only reason why he's well known is because he is so bearish. I did well betting on the "worthless piece of...sh*t"--I was short the pound and the euro since the 6th and will keep some on until expiration.
Having the world reserve currency allows the US to borrow almost indefinitely to grow and live beyond its means by trading our debt or stocks for foreign goods or investment so foreigners can earn dollars to do 80% of international transactions. It also gave the US world political power to chose who it sold dollars to for its own interest. Since the dollar is no longer backed by gold (the reason it was the reserve currency from 1944-71), Oil sales in dollars protects that status.
The US can enjoy growth and wealth from foreign constant re-investment of their dollars and buying our debt as long as
1) the dollar remains the reserve currency by pricing all significant commodities the world needs in only dollars
2)Americans continue to spend and pay taxes so Govt can pay debt and corporations get good returns, increasing foreigners' confidence to invest in the US.
If oil sales are changed, foreigners can diversify from the dollar and not buy or debt and not reinvest
I'm not sure. From a logical standpoint, I'd say "HELL NO!!". But the elite countries have sort of invested in the US' ability to control resources the rest of the world covets and they benefit from thru "free trade". Eg. China signing oil deals with Iraq, not possible without Saddam's overthrow. US-controlled IMF giving loans to poor countries but the loan is siphoned by Euro/US industries. The elite countries invest in the world's muscle man. It's hard to say if they'll keep the investment.
If Americans stop spending, as they're doing now, Corporations fail and can't give good returns, unemployment ensues, giving the Govt a smaller base for tax payment, losing the ability to pay its debts. Foreign investment erodes and will no longer buy or debt or invest.
The American standard of living will fall. Also the US will lose its international political power of coercion.
Unfortunately, it's a bit late for all that. To really balance the US economy, the tax-payers would have to start doing this 25 years ago. That's how big the debt is! The US has been mortgaged into the distant future
No argument here. But no one (except Austrian economists) saw it coming because no one has any idea what the true economic stats are. Both Paul Volker and Alan Greenspan changed the way inflation was accounted which pushed up GDP numbers in the 80s and 90s. Bernanke put the nail in the coffin hiding M3. Hell, the NBER surveys 100,000 people from a workforce of 150 million to determine unemployment (less than 1/10 of 1%? WTF?). So we may go on until bricks start hitting us in the head.
Saudi Dictators continue to loan money to the US and keep oil sales in dollars for protection and nuclear and military power. Whereas Iraq and Iran didn't fall in line with the program and are being made examples. Russia is the lone Western power not falling in line and we've used the Georgia-South Ossetia conflict to marginalize them. The world may keep up a position unfavorable to them to benefit economically and avoid being made examples by the US.

capitalism and democracy are two good ideas, they are just being done in the wrong ways, in secret, corrupted, and all the profit for elites and not the hard working citizen. The only way to keep this going of course is to brainwash everyone because otherwise you´d get the average joe outside your door with a shot gun asking what´s up. And that´s one of the ways out of this, either it gets so bad that common people start acting, or somebody honest and decent goes to office .
someone honest n decent in office? no joke IF that was to happen he be shot dead B4 he even implemented ONE single act to take back what they have stolen from america from Iraq the us elite get the benefit of arms sales to the us army n the oil barrons making their Billions from iraqi oil the poor pay for the war with their blood n tax money
I think Max Keiser's comments are insightful and interesting. It is unfortunate that many people in the U.S. have no clue what is going in the rest of the world. The Bush Administration is repeating the same rhetoric about Iran that the Carter administration gave the American public in the 1970's. As the saying goes,"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."
