  • She is the "Goddess Of Ecstasy" /"Goddess Of Love Making"

  • What a very powerful song. A Fan 4 Life From East St. Louis, IL!!!!!

  • Wow the art work is so breath taking

  • This song reminds me of the scene from Malcolm X when Betty (Angela Bassett) says to Malcolm (Denzel): "Beloved, I want to make a lot of babies with you."

Forgive me if I quoted her incorrectly, but...this song here make a brotha wanna put a ring on his woman's hand if she's singing this to him! OMG!!!

  • Who is the artist of the art work featured?

  • love this song :)

  • @ImaniTMisfit.. gotta disagree with you because quite simple... you ain't never gonna be a man.. unless you see a man. step dad.. brother... uncle... next door neighbor. Not say a single mom couldn't do it... but as monielove2010 said nothing wrong with having a good man by your side..

  • @MrRhaspyman

You are correct, brotha, and spoken like a real man. We are not born men; we are born boys. We learn to be men from the men in our lives, or we struggle to be men without them.

  • As much as I love Jill Scott, I cant agree with this message. There is no such thing as "being taught how to be a man". There is such a thing as being taught to be a man according to societies standards, but fuck society. A man is already a man when he is born with a penis. There have been plenty of successful men that have grown up without fathers. Theres all kinds of families and the idea that a family without a father is a broken family is an idea that causes pain. A family is a family.

  • @ImaniTMisfit

Sistah, a male has a penis, but a man knows when to pull it out and when to keep it in his pants. Yes, many successful men have grown up without fathers, but they also suffered through the pain of not having their fathers in their lives, of not having his guidance, direction and love. When you see the joy in a little boy playing catch with his dad, or a little girl smiling because her daddy is holding her hand, then you will know the value of a man.

  • I also agree with you @DollyMat and SmileCavy86, family is so important! Mandatory (if I can use that word) for the children that they have their father in their lives, also love, Love,LOVE the black art work in this video! Very powerful and gorgeous!....

  • I also agree with you @DollyMat and SmileCavy86, family is so important! Mandatory (if I can use that word) for the children that they have their father in their lives, also love, Love,LOVE the black art work in this video! Very powerful and gorgeous!....

  • When Jill is done making music she is going 2 the hall of fame

  • The queen with nappy head raising the fist!

  • Amazing vocalist and lyricist.

  • I agree with you. My childrens father is in their life and it makes such a difference, but also, it makes a huge difference that we are married. It is important because our children get to see not just how mommy and daddy work, but how we work together. I think one of the most under recognized function, is mom and dad as a team. Yes fathers are important, I absolutely agree, but the next level to mom and dad is F.A.M.I.L.Y. If a child cant see us fit together, we are still just peices

  • love the art work!!!omg!!!blends perfectly with this song!!!

  • i got that painting lol. the one with the man carrying the woman and the child

  • Whare did you get all the beautiful pictures of the couples ?

  • @Danande15 These are artist WEK paintings... look him up he is fabulous.

  • @msdavis13 u mean WAK. But I agree totally, he is fabulous! His work is just beautiful&it fits the song.

  • When you guys meet a strong women that appears to be a supermommerwomenyworkerlisious, remember we need you we do we do. Hard to say because then we have to acknowledge the void. ouch!

  • 2 words ! Simply beautiful

  • I always use to be a strong woman never needed anybody for anything. Never thought it was possible for anybody to break me down. Then I met someone that changed me in ways I never thought I could be changed. I learnt about love not just wanting but needing. this is one of those songs that hit the nail on the head. Even though the person I need has just told me that, he doesn't love me and doesnt need me after 2 and a half years, this song still explains how I feel. I love Jill

  • @a1rer1a touching words thank you

  • Regardless of what anyone says I like the art and I think any artform that renders our people in a powerful image is worth appreciating

  • Put up some real art like Tarik lbn Ziyad of Senegal the great Moorish General.

  • my mama has that first portrait in her house of the man caring his family.

  • Love this joint!

  • The art on this video is beautiful! i love black art

  • I'm scared Michael.

  • What Are These Pictures Called They Are Amazing?

  • i would say ((It's not a good song it's just a real Song))

    But dam it's Both....

  • At Least 50 Of Views Came From Me

Love This Song And Jill Scott

  • the art is by WAK I believe

  • I love the art

  • One of my favorite songs of all time, from one of favorite artist, Timeless music is still being made, thank God!

  • I hate when girls be like they don't need a man. I'm like YES BITCH YOU FUCKING DO. YOU DO. THAT'S WHY THEY BE COMPLAINING ALL THE DAMN TIME.

  • MEN! Let's be MENtors tothese young men who have no fathers(male figures0 in their lives. I know thw the prescence of a father can be the greatest thing in a male's life and the an devastating when absent. I truly believe that taking time out to show these young men how to tie a tie, how to dress for job interviews, how to treat a lady and how to have self-respect would be astronomical to their psyche. Any1 agree with me.......respond and add on!

  • @MrHiphop929 I definateley agree... a woman can try to be mother and father but it's no substitute when raising a boy child or even a girl for that matter. Fathers should fight to see their children even if they feel they they cant help financially their prescence in their childs life is unmeasurable. Some women need to put their childrens feelings and future before their own. Love this song btw...

  • @DollyMat I agree with you.

  • i love that picture

  • Love this cut too~~ Jill is def tha truth man!!! This is for the grown n sexy ;-)

  • I THINK US AS WOMEN GET SO CAUGHT UP WITH BEING INDPENDENT THAT WE SOMETIMES 4GET THAT THERES SOMETHINGS WE CANT DO ALONE AT THE END OF THE DAY WE ALL NEED A GOOD MAN BY OUR SIDE THANK U JILL 4 THIS SONG

  • WTF??? 9 people didn't like this song? Crazy......

  • Song makes me think about my moms......

  • awesome...

  • I love this soooo much

  • Men of this time is weak. They are growing up without fathers, without guidance, getting into trouble. So that leaves the woman to take up the reins in a home. The males spirit is broken and the Female's has harden..Men nowadays are lost....They need help to find their way.

  • Such a wonderful song. This song is not just for husbands and boyfriends. I think this is also for all the men in our lives. TO THE MEN OUT THERE, THE REAL MEN....WE NEED YOU.....LIKE MISS SCOTT SAID ......SOME THINGS JUST DON'T CHANGE. We need the fathers, uncles, grandpas, brothers....we need all the brothers to stand up and be in place.

Dedicating to my daddy and my sons daddy....

  • i love the picture :D

  • Where can I find the picture with the couple kissing on the velvet sheets????

    I need It!

  • I love this song! Thank God for my husband....ebony angel from above. I need you honey.

  • This song is so real it makes me cry. When you've had to do it by yourself it is SO hard to admit that you need him.

  • I love this song. Not trying to play the race card, but...the world beats down our black men everyday. Some of it is self imposed, but most of it is not. As a black woman, it's my duty to make sure that he can wash the wear and tear of the world off of him when he gets home in OUR haven. Not saying he'll always be right, but he will always be RESPECTED!! Yes, it is all about him, because he makes it all about me. All grounds are covered.

  • A very simple truth almost forgotten in the era of the "independent woman". Because a woman can very well do A, B, and C very well that still doesn't exclude her need of man, its just the way God created it to be.

  • Bring them back Jill Scott b/c Destiny Childs' have confuse most of us girls. Cause at the end of the day yea we can do everything. But going back to a lonely home don't make you independent just sad and lonely and no one to keep you warm and lay your head on their shoulder.

  • i used to play this song for my daughter all the time..and at the time she was 4 yrs old...now she's nine..and to this day she still knows the lyrics...word for word.

  • Jilly from Philly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! undeniable!!!! these lyrics, my goodness!!!!! i love it because to me it BASHES those "overly independent theories" i can do this this this & that "i don't need a man". Newsflash!! the fact is you NEED a man, just like a man NEEDs a woman. the balance can never be replaced. the Ying & the Yang. one is not complete w/o the other!!!!!!!!!

  • The art work in this video is absolutely beautiful.

  • @AmandaMillerMusic Ikr, it's turning me on! LOL <3 love Jill

  • Hahha. i understand. so my husband and i have had arguments because he is not a homemaker and he has no job so i got in an argument with him and told him that i can do everything by myself and so he asked me why i was with him then if he was no help. i told him.. Cause i love you.

  • @karenljuarez lol hopefully he spiritual

  • @karenljuarez that's deep...and real. Need more sister's like ya!!!

  • fire song!

  • ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE ART

  • ABS..A-MAZ-IN!!!!

  • Dont give her too much credit, didnt she leave her husband for that co star actor on why did i get married movie? ill separate artist from person.

  • @27kwanchi

Hate when people get their stories so WRONG! LOL. Her and her ex-husband split amicably, she got into a relationship with and had the baby from her drummer, not the actor in the movie...lawd lawd lawd

  • @27kwanchi no...she's done interviews about her relationship with her drummer..it's no secret

  • Only if we had more woman with the mind of Jill Scott this world would be a better place. I'm so glad that they still have some women with substance left. She is beautiful inside and out, her music is real and she is a real woman. I listen to her everyday. Mad I couldn't go to her concert here in the ATL. Love ya Jill!!

  • Women today would rather have your baby then take a pay check instead of growing up and being a wife instead they choose other roles that allow them to escape responsibility. Part of being a mature woman is living in harmony with your man. So thank you Jill for telling your Man you need Him.

  • @Cosmictalk I don't know who you've been dealing with or talking to. I'm independent, make my own money, buy my own clothes, got my own car. This woman truly has her own. However, none of the compares to the joys of sharing my heart with the man I love. Women's lib helped in the since that should he fall short, I've got it FAIRLY. So now you can't say that you haven't heard a woman who's independent say they need a man. I NEED HIM WAY BEYOND ANYTHING HE COULD EVER PROVIDE MATERIALLY!!

  • Beautiful song indeed. Nice photo's to go with it.

  • im a young man and i was raised by a strong black single mother and this song just explains everything keep it coming jill

  • I believe if we start being honest with ourselves, others, and remain humble, everything would be good for the black communitty. That's just my opinion. Peace.

  • Yup, pure art

you can just feel her whole cast made this song not worried about if it would go platinum and all that stuff

    Its fearless music

  • Art pure art

  • I agree, nodlew. As Jill said, "some things don't change." I need you, D.

  • As women we may be strong and be that Superwomen but the fact is we still our Supermen. Such a reflective song.

    Beautiful and true.

  • i love this song !!!!

  • Jill is a complete POET!!!! I love her work and words! She speaks from the soul and she knows what's up! Love this song!

  • Still need you, after all of this time. Phew!

  • I Love This Song, But Where Did You Get These Pictures Their Beautiful!!!

  • I'm going to guess that some of the artwork was done by Kevin A. Williams - WAK Art.. you can order online, they're based in ATL. I ordered a piece and had them frame it - BEAUTIFUL .. so even if the artwork in the video isn't his, you'll love his work because it's like that.

  • Thank You Very Much!!!!

  • simplismente uma das melhores.

    Parabéns pelas imagens Jondrea Smith.

    Beijos de uma brasileira negra

  • I love it!

  • I need you GML

  • This is the coldest song out and I love the way you put the exotic american-african paintings in the vid love it...

  • i effin love diis song.. like it spokke to me!! iLOL but itz like she sayiin she kan pay the bills take care of haself, raise ha child,.... by her damnn self.. but yet she still needs ha man!!

  • part 2:down there when the night is on, and the world is not watching. some of us smile and thank god for his goodness, some r not able to sleep (i hope they find peace one day). n some r lucky to feel peace in love...

P.S.: man 500 sign comments are more then i need to say, but less then shit. sorry for the ugly talk ;-)

  • part 1 : well - i dont care about race, color, even education(and im a happy man that im able to say that). you could be a tribesman/-woman without ever seeing a single book in your life, and be the best man/woman out there. You can be the highly educated rich man/woman from somewhere i dont care, and be the biggest jerk out there. it just doesnt matter.

  • We can be strong "independent " black women. A Superwoman! Yet, its nothing like to have a Superman by your side. Especially those time we need a shoulder to lean on...

  • beautiful....

  • i can do it all but i need u to suport me all the way

  • I don't think nobody can be happy alone. We all have to live in the world with the others and with the one we love. It doesn't make us weak to admit that.

  • well said, witell0307

  • Oh don't get me wrong the song is the truth. This is tha shit and so true we do it everyday!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is so hard to say that we need these dumb ass men after all, the fact is we need them!!!!!!!!!

  • wow...i hope you're not a black woman saying that because if you are, you need help. it's enough to have to hear that from a white man but to hear that coming from a sister is a disgrace. We're not dumb at all lady! Pray for us and stop doggin' us.

  • Yes... I am a black woman that was married for 17 years been there done that.A man is always gonna need a woman and a woman is gonna need a man.Unless you want another woman or a joy stick. You can handle yours but you still gonna need a man.

  • Well anyway, i love this song. All it's saying is ya'll can do alot of things on your own but u still need us ans just the same we need ya'll!

  • lmao, I wouldn't have put it quite that way, but it was hella funny

  • Some men need to know that even though a woman can do almost everything that he is still needed..... Let me know why I'm here..... I NEED YOU just as much as you need me.... Instead of you being your on woMAN let me be your MAN!!!!!

  • @witell0307 I've Never Heard a woman claim her independence yet admit she cant replace the presence of a man in her life. That's something the Woman's Liberation movement would never admit. Instead of Admitting having a man makes her a complete woman.

  • @Cosmictalk This was the realest thing you said. Bra big ups

  • @witell0307 Preach baby

  • Comment removed

  • I doesnt even matter tht there is no trace of a picture at the end of the song,.... ITS STILL GREAT!!! LOOOOOOVE IT!!

  • I love the pictures! They´re great

  • I can pay my own light bill baby

pump my own gas in my own car

I can buy my own shoe collection

    I've been blessed thus far

I can kill the spider above my bed

although it's hard because I'm scared

I can even stain and polyurethane

But some things just don't change

    I need you

  • Man,the picture at 4:38 is so powerful!

  • what are strong women to do? a man definitely needs to feel needed. this song is so deep. listen to what she is really saying. herein lies the answer brothas.

  • this is an emotional song. especially the part where she says " but he needs you to help him be a man". and its ironic now because she's having a son now....lol i love that God made us to share love and that His desire is for us to love and be loved because He's Love. and the devil and the fallen angels are always trying to stop God's design. love is so beautiful....brothas we need to appreciate our woman and our responsibilities in life.....

  • God, she's beautiful.

  • you really don't get it.... it's about needing the men in your life for emotional strength/ love. All of the material things in the world she is capable of buying herself.

  • I don't do internet fights..... God bless

  • First of all we are have a conversation why is the B**** word necessary. GET SOME CLASS IN YOUR

  • best artist evaaaaaaa!!!!

  • this girl is fucking amazing singer..so deep...WHOLE NUVA LEVEL~~~!!!

  • This song is absolutely beautiful!!! It is so hard to tell a man this because we as women are already vulnerable by nature, at the same time we don't want to appear weak. But I guess it depends on the man you are saying this message to.

  • what a powerful mesage. it's true even though we as women are able to do all these things, we need ya'll men!

  • that's good, cuz i wasnt sure any more...considering they can make sperm out of stem cells now

  • I don't know what this music style is called (??) Whatever it is, I love it - - - and I love Jill Scott. She's smoooooth!

  • neo soul. this song is beautiful. ive always loved it.

  • if only women could convey this message to us better...

  • bigkgs said: "if only women could convey this message to us better... "

How much better can it get than this sweetheart...we need you...your children need you. Sure many of us are raising the children without you...but in all honesty...we need you so much. Did I convey it well enough for you?

  • No offense, but all you're doing is repeating the words to the song. We need more than that. We need to see it in your attitude and actions... I'm sure not every man deserves it but those who do deserve it desperately need it.

  • Well you will never see my attitued or my actions. This is the internet. So I guess I have to save that for my man, sweetie. Just go on feeling unappreciated. Not trying to be cold or anything like that, but if after all these years, you still feel unappreciated by your woman maybe you need to do a deeper search within. Maybe you are with the wrong kind of sistah. Ask yourself why you keep choosing women who don't appreciate you. Great BM come from great BW. They deserve great women.

  • My statement was for "women in general" not you literally.

lol... Ur response is the same response I used to give to women who complain about men... "why do u keep choosing the wrong men." It's easy to defer blame to the person making the complaint. I've decided not to do that anymore... I'm actually helping my fellow brothers become better men to defend other women. I hope you can do more on your side.

btw - I do come from a great BW... my mother.

  • Well you deserve a good woman. Your heart is not full of anger toward BW, so I am very sure you will be a good catch for a good woman. Then SHE will make you feel appreciated. From a sistah to a brotha...I love you.

  • tell it jill thats my girl she is so classy and poetic

  • This song is soooooooooooooooooooo true. Guys really need to hear this. They think that independent women don't need them but we do. We need you.

  • True dat!

  • OBama!!!

  • @Atlmagicstick..take if from a 40 y/old single mother raising her girl child w/out a father..I am teaching her that it is ok to be independant and vulnerable so she will not have to be w/out a "blackman". It's ok ladies, tell a broher you need him, it doesn't make you stupid or weak, it makes you human!

  • i Love this song because it expresses the true heart of EVERY woman whether she wants to acknowledge it or not. I need my man and there is NO shame in that, and he needs me too. We complete each other and make each other better than we could ever be alone. WAK (Kevin A. Williams) is an awesome artist. That's who drew the pictures in this montage. He has many more. I Love how he expresses the power of Black Love & the importance of the man being the strength that the woman needs. God bless all!

  • Jill Scott's voice is the truth! And I just love this song, the message is so beautiful and powerful. And Jill is such a great writer! i mean, who else could put the word "polyurethane" into a love song and make it sound as pretty as she does!

Love ya Jill, keep doin your thing!

  • I second that.

  • What means "polyurethane"?

  • if my memory serves me correctly she talked about that line in a soulvideo interview & i believe it was in reference to a job she once had waxing or buffing floors & polyurethane relates to that in some way...dont quote me though.

  • That's right, thats's how she got her record deal. The job was in a music studio and she started singin while working (intentionally :P). And they gave her an oppertunity to show what she can do... Thank God for that.

  • those pictures are beautiful

  • Brothers although is very beautiful to hear woman say that she NEEDS us as Men.. it also kind of a shame. The reason why I say this because the black woman has become accoustomed to a MAN not being there, and she has to do everything alone or with little help. We need to step up and do better! But I must admit that it warms my soul to here a woman say that she NEEDS me. When u say you need someone there is a vuneralbility involved. And it can be very hard to say...

  • I agree with you that black man today need to step up because it's hard for a strong black woman to say they need a man who refuses to step up and show that he can be needed.

  • well said atl. as a female, i definitely feel you on that. nice to hear a male perspective like that. it's pretty damn refreshing.

this video is really beautiful. suits the song perfectly and i love the photos used. would love to have some of them as posters at home.

  • you CAN get them as posters. Kevin A. Williams is the artist and he can be found online under that name or WAK his "artist" name. You can also try 1.877.GET.SOUL. He is VERY, VERY talented and has many more prints for sale at VERY reasonable prices.

  • this song this song this song..

    gosh I love it...

  • This song always makes me so emotional........... because its so hard for me to say.......... i need you....... , a fault of mine so hard to say when youve always hold your own....... its much easier to say i dont need you....... damn

  • LOVE this song soooo much - it takes a STRONG woman to admit that she needs a strong man...whew...I wanna grow into being that woman...

  • Comment removed

  • where did you find these pictures? I want them on a poster

  • I love this...a strong woman, but she still needs her strong man. AWESOME! The perfect couple

  • Comment removed

  • I need you Bruce!

  • Jill Scott #1 Fan and I need you Jill. So Easy for me to say! And the world needs your Soul (musically).

  • Beautiful Sound, Beautiful Words about Beautiful Men!!!

  • Kevin A William.....aka WAK great artist!!!

    Love his work

  • Beautiful video! Great job, goes so well with the song.

  • My favorite is the Opening Scene depicting a strong Black man climbing a hill with his lady & offspring leaning upon him....yet his eyes are Raised To The Hills From Which Cometh His Help. What a beautiful vision.

  • ".....And even though I can do all these things....I need you"...Lawd have mercy lol! so so so true

  • AND there ain't no shame in having discovered a Honest Do Right Man and admit that he is a valuable presence in our lives...in spite of all we have accomplished, and CAN accomplish as a single individual. 3 Things a man needs to feel secure are 1. Respect 2. To be NEEDED 3. To be fulfilled. If we lovingly set out to reach THOSE goals in a relationship, he will be far less likely to seek these 3 things elsewhere!!!
