With fairer skinned people occupying the seats of power, perhaps the population came to see it as advantageous to be fairer skinned. Of course this is only a hypothesis and not fact.

I believe the British colonisation would've contributed to colour discrimination in India, but I also think that the descendants of Genghis Khan's Horde (Mongols) that migrated there from Persia (Iran) and came to be known as the Moguls in India, would've provided a basis for colour discrimination. With fairer skinned people occupying the seats of power, perhaps the population came to see it as advantageous to be fairer skinned. Of course this is only a hypothesis and not fact.

@Lotch21 this is also comng from a country with obvous ethnic and reigious divides, the only reason that Sonia Gandhi has got anywhere in India is because of who she married rather than who she is, if you don't want to come to Australia fine but clearly other people do, especially seeing as how more than 1 in 4 Australians are overseas-born (New Zealand to us really doesn't count).

Rotary engine was invented by Felix Wankel who is German, not Australian.

@Lotch21 You musn't be able to read sweety, but that's alright I'll help. You'll notice I wrote "helped" discover penicillin. What I didn't mention was that on top of "helping" discover it an Australian also found the way to mass manufacture and contain its potential thus saving the lives of countless masses worldwide. I'd say that you've probably benefited from that, but you may not have. In any case, we're only interested in helping, not gloating or profiting or asking for thanks. :)

@Lotch21 The combine harvester was indeed patented globally by the Americans, but a little known Australian first invented it and the company he worked for folded after being beaten to the global race for sales by the Americans and a labour law here that mandated a living wage be paid to all employees at the Sunshine Harvester factory. This became a national case that established the Industrial Relations Commission in Australia. Since then we compete against less moral nations that don't. :)

@Lotch21 You are correct about the rotary engine. I had misunderstood an article about the only commercialised version of the engine that was bought by Mazda from an Australian who had worked on the original Wankel engine. He is still designing them and has come up with one that runs on compressed air! Still early days though. :)

@Lotch21 Oh! I forgot to mention the first powered flight! With so many inventions being used globally it is indeed hard to keep track. Yeah, Lawerence Hargrave did it with his boxed kite system. He made all his findings publicly available and didn't patent any. He was always motivated by the universal need to share and discover rather than to covet and monetize others work. Some guys called the Wright Brothers took an interest though. Do you know them? :)

Just as the US initiated the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe and gain influence to stop communisms spread, Australia gave money throughout Asia for investment in new industries and education. We're not perfect, but we don't have a religiously sanctioned slave class that cannot touch the glasses we drink from. Oz has many flaws, but we're not out shaming India for its human rights record or its huge levels of corruption. Why start?

What this guy is failing to mention is who exactly are attacking Indian people here. Were easily one of THE most multicultural countrys in the world , as reported by the victoms to the police the attacks were *MOSTLY* from Pakistani foreign nationals.

Yes NE Indians were viewed different to other people in India and we should have a broad mindset that there are people of different religion, ethnicities and traditions in India. I strongly feel that these differences are bridged by our generation.

Dalit 'untouchables' issue should not be debated - it is a known issue and you don't need to stress it again and again, people at all levels of society should work together to bring this equality and already people and socities are working on these issues. They are successful in bridging the gap. This is possible through education and empowerment and educating people at all levels of the society that human beings are created equally.

Feeling of insecurity is everywhere, even in India at a city/state/country level and not only in Western countries. May be you are right in the sense if more foreigners (not only westerners- people even from other town/state/country) come and settle in your town/country and they start coming at an alarming proportion, then you start to panic.
