Smirnov has always been one of my favorite singers. His interpretive abilities are astounding. In this regard he's in a class inhabited by only a very small number of tenors. Too bad he's not well known these days and generally not appreciated as much as his contemporary Sobinov. Sobinov was very good but Smirnov's interpretive and technical skills are one of a kind.
