Rage had insane texture loading times on release day, I guess that's fixed now, but even then the graphics aren't by any means stunning, Skyrim's lighting was top notch but the textures in some spots were just depressing, truly the winners of this year are Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, and The Witcher 2. Although I do wish games would take advantage of tessellation like Crysis 2 did, it was simply stunning at the amount of detail, even the BRICKS are tessellated! Plus the 4096x4096 textures are nice.

@dvdcastav yes they are sadly "kinda the same level" With the small diffirence that rage has more colors apart from grey and brown (as Randy adimtted in borderlands 2 and said it will have more color this time around) and unlike bordrlands it doesnt have dynamic shadows.
In any case having finsihed rage 100% its a linear shooter not an rpg or open world game and the graphisc are horrible unless you can see only the colors and not the blurrry textures and lack of lighting.

@AddamHusayin xbox 360. PS3 version has lag when save file gets bigger than 6 mb. Fallout 3 had same problem but it was later fixed by patch. Until they fix that , I would say that xbox 360 version is better.
The PS3 version has hardware issues regarding saved games files. The Xbox 360 version has none of these and Skyrim DLC comes out one month earlier for the 360 thanks to Microsoft's big pile 'o cash. But if at all possible get it for PC, it's just better.
@manciuxl1 to be totally honest im not a graphics fanatic, but no RAGE was not one of the best looking games at all, it was a hack in many ways, it had NO DYNAMIC LIGHTNING, they "baked" the lighting looked so fake. The best imo....eh..well hmm i guess Witcher 2 was pretty dang good graphically...but like i said graphics dont make or break a game for me but RAGE's textures were inexcusable.

In the end what's the most important is that the game is memorable. If you want to see next-gen graphics, take a look at Cinematic trailers from Assassins Creed, Prey 2, Killzone 2/3, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid Rising and Final Fantasy. This is where graphics will be going.

The only thing we don't have is the processing power. But we are one generation away from that. In fact I think High End PCs can already render some of those scene in real-time! Think about character models in Witcher, combine them with the CryEngine or Frostbyte Engine and you can already achieve this.

I really really HATED Crysis 2. It didn't feel like a sequel, and if that wasn't there intention then they did a good job. But, then why call it Crysis 2?
Good as Skyrim looks, once you take the time to take a close at things, you'll notice that Bethesda has used so very low res textures throughout the whole game. I know I noticed them. Sure Skyrim looks good enough, but it doesn't look really impressive until you install some of the mods that replace the ugly vanilla textures with higher resolution ones.
PC games will always look better and play better tan console games. Consoles sit stagnate for 5-6 years while PC build get better and getter with every passing month.
You really can't argue which one is better especially if you have only ever played console games. You wanna argue that console gaming is better than PC gaming...well first you're going to have to play some PC games.

Lame review.

Skyrim for example will never get fixed to that level with a 32 bit executable.

@abram730 Of course. 32 bit simply could never handle it. You need far more bandwidth to run CGI-like games. I think by the time we have games that look like Hollywood movies, we have to switch to 128bit. Even 64bit wouldn't be enough.

@N4SONIC well, i have seen arkham city on a console and its pretty much the same with the pc versions without dx11 and physics, but UNLIKE the pc version it doesnt take a super rig to run with stuttering due ot all the consolish streaming. Not to mention rage that is identical and if anything it looks better on consoles.
The call of duty series though look miles superior on pc,would be graphics king if they looked like that on consoles.

Some of these are laughable. Bulletstorm's cactus'es was half naked, Dead Space 2 was completely pitch-black with nothing but scripted lightning-effects which any game can polish enough for it to look good and then they're bringing up memorable characters in graphics?

@dvdcastav yes they are sadly "kinda the same level" With the small diffirence that rage has more colors apart from grey and brown (as Randy adimtted in borderlands 2 and said it will have more color this time around) and unlike bordrlands it doesnt have dynamic shadows.
In any case having finsihed rage 100% its a linear shooter not an rpg or open world game and the graphisc are horrible unless you can see only the colors and not the blurrry textures and lack of lighting.

@AddamHusayin xbox 360. PS3 version has lag when save file gets bigger than 6 mb. Fallout 3 had same problem but it was later fixed by patch. Until they fix that , I would say that xbox 360 version is better.

The PS3 version has hardware issues regarding saved games files. The Xbox 360 version has none of these and Skyrim DLC comes out one month earlier for the 360 thanks to Microsoft's big pile 'o cash. But if at all possible get it for PC, it's just better.

@manciuxl1 to be totally honest im not a graphics fanatic, but no RAGE was not one of the best looking games at all, it was a hack in many ways, it had NO DYNAMIC LIGHTNING, they "baked" the lighting looked so fake. The best imo....eh..well hmm i guess Witcher 2 was pretty dang good graphically...but like i said graphics dont make or break a game for me but RAGE's textures were inexcusable.

All this doesn't matter. 5 years from now, people will laugh at these graphics. 10 years from now, people will think those games are flash games.
In the end what's the most important is that the game is memorable. If you want to see next-gen graphics, take a look at Cinematic trailers from Assassins Creed, Prey 2, Killzone 2/3, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid Rising and Final Fantasy. This is where graphics will be going.

@au25 *facepalm* No shit, Sherlock. Of course they are pre-rendered. But 5 years from now, this is how in-game graphics will look like. We already have the shaders to calculate those things. The only thing we don't have is the processing power. But we are one generation away from that. In fact I think High End PCs can already render some of those scene in real-time! Think about character models in Witcher, combine them with the CryEngine or Frostbyte Engine and you can already achieve this.

@TrickyEmu Nvidia is talking 10 teraflops by 2019 on the ps4.. so It would be a 2 part system.. or a looooong way away.. So I'm guessing 2 pieces. 2 teraflops then 8 in 2019. Yes the target was the assassins creed cgi trailer.
I'll guess first part has a 670(580 dx11.1 with faster clocks smaller chip) APU functions critical for costs and flexibility.
PC will still be better as we can get the 700 series when they come out

Good as Skyrim looks, once you take the time to take a close at things, you'll notice that Bethesda has used so very low res textures throughout the whole game. I know I noticed them. Sure Skyrim looks good enough, but it doesn't look really impressive until you install some of the mods that replace the ugly vanilla textures with higher resolution ones.
