  • It's so rare to see the bass utilized to its full potential. We're so used to seeing it as a background rhythm instrument that we forget that it can convey the full range of emotional dynamic. I don't think more than a handful of people are capable of doing it the way Vic does.

  • just amazing

  • Saw this guy at bluesfest in byron bay Australia a few years back and got to meet him afterwards... he is that good and totally humble about it... made me wanna pick up the bass and learn it properly, but at the same time realised i could never be as good as that... haha...

  • in the beginning he says idren, its a sort of jamaiican dialect for children.

  • Listen to the man pleea de beeass.. Haha

    Awesome. What a genius.

  • victor wooden...shame on that tv-station

  • Man I've always been a huge fan of Vic but I never came across this footage before. Always have loved More Love but it this is so much better than the studio version

Also the message about how people are "more comfortable to watch two men kill each other rather than kiss each other" is so true. What's wrong with the world?

  • @bassfire700 its full of humans.

  • so beautful.... holy shit.... that little bridge part makes me go crazy...

  • tis amazing , its great!!! master!!!

  • AWESOME!

  • I think he's only using a phaser for effects. I could be wrong though.

What I want to know is...

What the hell is JD Blair (if it is JD Blair) saying in the beginning? It sounds like "We need to love each other "iaidren" or something, haha. If we wouldn't slur his words like that then maybe I could understand. I know it helps with the mood and feeling of the song, but still. also, at 1:43... I just can't understand him. can somebody help me out?

  • @tehmusician he says "we need to love each other, idrin"

  • what effects is he using on his bass? i WANNA KNOW :\

  • has these relase on dvd?

  • i could cry man is so fucking beautiful

  • Magic!

  • ♥

  • beautiful beautiful playing

  • For those who are hating on Victor understand what musc truely is then you would understand this song..........

  • For all those people who say technical players can't play expressively, I present you this song. Beautiful and mesmerizing, Victor is a master of every aspect of bass playing.

  • dude victor wooten can get harmonics even from a negative 5th fret somehow..

  • i thought i likes alot before, but now when im all hiiiiiigh, i love it even more! damn, you realy do understand the song!

  • mos def on the drums

  • More like Ja Rule.

  • lol...uhh jd blair

  • does that say BET in the corner? i doubt the people who watch that channel can appreciate how amazing victor is.

  • Very true. But what makes it even more sad is that channels like MTV or VH1 wuold rather show b.s. reality shows than something like this. I'm just glad its getting shown SOMEWHERE. Great performance

  • What... you mean black people?

  • Is he tapping all the time, or is it like finger picking style?

  • Mostly tapping, but in the interludes he uses finger picking

  • he is tapping all the time, except in the intro, that is muting

  • I love especially this version, because on the cd's version, there is not any drums. In this one, drums make it feels much more "reggae".

  • yeah i agree totaly, prefer this version! does anyone know how i can get this version?

  • speechless...!!!

  • oh man im i play the play the bass but man when i hear this beautiful sound coming out of the bass it makes me so cold all over

    and the message is incredible

    well done mr. wooten

  • We need to love each other more.

  • one of the most badass victor wooten songs, imo.

  • mmmhm. such a true song

  • MEDIO CARTON DE GUEVO!!!

  • this guy is just unbelivieble........he has a unique technique, simply the best ever (better the Jaco or any other).....and he plays with his heart and in such a natural way..... almost from other planet

  • rare slipup at 2:14

  • This song reaches my heart... Music for the soul

  • tabs tabs tabs! where are the tabs!!??

  • @sebleton

    Use google .....

  • who here has the tabs of this song???

  • he's too good. it almost makes me mad. almost

  • wow. did bet spell his name wrong.

  • they write " Wooden"

  • go buy his video lessons, dude... it's all in there!

  • just one man, just one song, just the best bass song ever! thanx Wooten .. we need much more love... people wake up!

  • wooten is god

  • Thanks! So great and heartful music!!

  • V ictor, to my mom, Mario, and all who died.. Lovely. Tks,

  • leesten to the mon play tha bess

  • If you want to play this on a normal bass, how should you tune it or what?

  • you need to tune your g string to f. you should also get a phaser pedal and a compresion sustainer

  • you cant really not unless you want to break your neck. I suggest piccolo strings or sonmetibng like that

  • A D G A#

  • You could just try to do it standard. Vic does it standard tuning in a video entitled "Victor Wooten live in Greensboro 3/9" Or something to that effect. You could watch that and try to figure it out.

  • Nope sorry, I was wrong about that. He's got it tuned EADF there like Mace said.

You'll have to play it in a different key on a normal bass than tenor.

  • Comment removed

  • in the video they spelled his name wrong lmfaoo

  • @SleazMetal It's on the album "A Show of Hands". Buy it, it's utterly mind-blowing.

  • does anyone know where i can download the audio from this show? or the clip:)

  • i usually play it EADF, just tune the g string a half step lower, but he plays it ADGBb.

  • he uses his tenor bass which is tuned ADGC not Bb :)

  • i know he uses tenor, but in this song, his high string is tuned down a whole step

  • what an amazin dude

  • wow this shit is beautiful. eventhough it seems ( seems cuz i cant play any of this ) easier than norwegian wood and amazing grace this piece sounds way more beautiful. Victor is the man.

  • This is just... amazing. I'm awestruck.

  • man i miss the old BET channel

  • B-E-A-Utifull

  • Do I hear a little phasing effect? Or am I wrong?

  • the fact it says victor "wooden" at the beginning always tickles me!

  • you can tell he gets great joy from playing, this is part of the reason why i like victors so much he just shows feeling very well

  • amazin'!!!!!!

    What is this?????

  • your a fucker why do you edit yourself anyway,

  • what?

  • i can do the first tap part i cant figure out the rest cuz hes amazing and i worship him cuz hes god

  • "We live in a place where we're much more comfortable seeing two men kill each other than two men kiss each other."

  • @brobguy yep and thats the way we should keep it gaylord

  • 1:36

The Jamacian just fits so well. It's sweet.

  • yeah man i agree with apc467.. ive started to look at it that way a bit, like at first i was like owah cool technique (the whole fast 'up-down double pop slap thing) but i learnt how to so it, an its only cool like, played every once in a while, if its muted it can sound bad. but when i learnt it i was like.. i dont really need this lol. i still love vic tho man he's cool

    peace

  • wow i really love this so nice, never heard this before

  • He is so awesome!!

    Amazing song!

  • awesome, "wooden" on the opening credit tho lol

  • It ia fuckin msterpiece, this is this track, i cant stop listen this shit !

  • Que capo que es este gordito

    <3

  • to be honest, i absolutly love victor wootens style of jaming, but i hate his shreading. like i think that classical thump sounded auful, exept for the slow part in the middle, and the part based off of the bach chello suite. same with a show of hands. but this song and stan the man with steve baily, god damn, now that is some real music. i belive people need to let down the hype of playing fast, and just listen to real music.

  • I think most people will agree with you. I like his music, I don't much care for his technique.

  • one day if you learn music you may understand

  • I play bass guitar, what are you getting at? His fast muted slap and pops sometimes just don't do it for me, like that guitar battle

  • i think that's one of the most hypercritical and ignorant things you could say..... when he plays fast it is amazing, no doubt, but it is true that a lot of the music and harmonic complexity is lost in it. He turns the bass into a drum, and loses the melodic side of it. You can argue with that. I play bass, and when i her him doing that fast slapping, and popping it just makes me think of him as a little bit of a wanker (as in guitar wanking).

  • the technique is just the means for him creating great music... and if you like the end product then i guess the technique is successful.

  • lol I think retards such as yourself need to stop broadcasting their ill educated opinions and let the people of the world learn for themselves. like victor

  • So he's a retard for stating a personal preference? Everyone's entitled to their opinion even if you don't agree with it. For instance, I love Classical Thump, but I can also see why someone wouldn't like it. When he "double-thumps" followed by a quick succession of "pops" live, occasionally notes get lost or become nothing more than clicks. In all seriousness, it was a warm-up exercise that includes all his techniques in one song that he expanded upon for the fun of it.

  • es increible la sensacion q te da al combinar tanto la tecnica con su increible musicalidad!..grande!

  • WOW.....

  • i like how JD blair plays...they call him the groove regulator. He can set an intense groove without playing very much drums at all. I hope i get an opportunity to play with a drummer as good as him. Its hard for a bass player to keep the groove right if the drummer is bad, and i've played with quite a few poo drummers lol!

and vic was amazing as usual!

  • fucking amazing...

  • <3!!!!

  • victor is amazing!

Listen to the man playing the bass

  • that deserved a much bigger clap than what was given.

  • i think if i was there i would bawling my eyes out.

victor lemonte wooten. thank you for all of the love.

  • ADGBb.

Check out the project he did with Dennis Chambers ad Greg Howe/ nuts!

  • i love this man!!!!!

  • Now is he playing with tuning ADGBb or EADF?

  • tenor bass tuned A-D-G-Bb.

  • I could have sworn it was A-D-G-C to keep it in fourths. He might have detuned the C string just for a particular song though.

  • shit i said Bb??? ugh yea it is c. When palying on normal bass you have to play a perfect 4th lower, so yea you are right. My mistake.

  • Comment removed

  • to clear everything up, it says on the cd his bass is tuned...........

    A-D-G-Bb

  • I wonder why he did that. The only thing I can think of is fingering issues he might have. I should have asked him when I saw him a week ago.

  • i think he did that so he could get specific harmonic intervals.

  • He tunes it like that he can get a higher pitch

  • but he tunes his bass lower

  • It's higher

  • he plays on a tenor bass : A_D_G_C ....

  • Its a tenor bass so its already tuned up a forth

  • i got love all over the boxers i was just wearing, i dunno how much more i could take

  • One of the best bass songs in the world.

  • yo people deep song i know lol but whos the drummer in vics band he looks kool i wana kno what else he does

  • oh mah gah
