I think that this definitely a GREAT movie, principally, because of Peter O'Toole's GREAT performance, but also because the moviie people today a glimpse of what, at least, some of live t.v. in the 50's was like. And hell yes, it is fun to watch!
I was watching some letterman-O'toole interviews earlier and it strikes me that there was more character-truth than fiction in this movie.
O'Toole described frollicing around with Richard Harris. "Frollicing?" questioned Letterman. "Yes! I do love the word, it has an 'f' and 'ollic'. replied O'Toole.
"IT'S JUST FUN!!" was possibly one of the most naturally and well executed lines in the movie. Although, I really did like "Double the lads bet for me you you toad".
@IwantJenniferConelly Goddamn your fucking eyes! What is a great movie if it isn't fun? You have 22 seconds to find one more fun. In 22 seconds I can ... sorry . .. wrong movie
"Sam rewrite the opening reel, cross the little bastard in the first act!!"
I loved this film when it first came out. Baker was...ok...but just too over the top with his frantic facial expressions. The character should have been more deadpan and not so panicky.
Great scene..love the dinner scene with Benjy's parents. "That's my meatloaf Mindanoa" -- What was that particularly pungent flavor? --- parrot. It's not easy to prepare..they put up some squawk -- I can imagine. What was that dish? Philipino Pork and Beans -- Where was the pork? I can't -- there are Jews here.
Classic...just plain classic!

"Of course he's beneath us. He's an actor." Best line in the movie. Most underrated comedy I know.

To me, the funniest line in this clip is - - "I think Alan Swann is beneath us - of course he's beneath us, he's an actor."

Ain't it great!
I love when Alan falls off the roof and he's screaming with ecstatic laughter all the way!
