There's a subtle change in the dialogue from the Japanese that makes a big impact on this scene.

Here, she says "Anyone but you, this would've been a bloodbath" implying that it was only Rock's gift of gab that got him out of this situation.

In the Japanese, she says "If it had been anyone but you, I would've shot you two or three times already!"

Just saying... the Japanese dialogue would probably be more favored by Rock/Revy shippers... lol...

Another rare scene where we get to see Revy scared as shit. During the entire time Balalika was holding a gun to his mouth Revy was practically begging for her to let him go. Only time I ever heard Revy suggest "calming down".

Even when she's here screaming at Rock, you can see the hand with the other gun shaking and her voice even takes that "pissed but scared shitless" tone she took with him during their first big argument. She definently didn't want to see him get his brains blown out.

Well, about 70% of all anime has got some insane voice actors in English, while the Japanese voices kind of stick to two different kinds of tones in their voices. Don't get me wrong there are awesome Japanese voices to, i simply think that the English voices are preferable, especially in Black Lagoon.

the english is more natural. I understand that Rock is Japanese and yet doesn't speak a lot of japanese in the english version, but I also think that during the time when, in the Japanese translations, they have to speak english, it sounds so much more awkward and unnatural compared to this, when in that same time in the english version when Rock has to speak japanese, he seems to do so more fluently, speaking both naturally. Thus, if you're looking for authenticity, this seems more like it

The English dub suck massive obscene body parts. Dubbing takes away what a character's soul, I mean if you take away somebodies voice and then replace it with another and change the words and tone its not that person anymore. I understand but I maintain in many ways the characters in the anime are as real as the made up characters played by live action actors. My main problem with dubbing is the distortion that is inherent in the direct audio translation of one language to another. The English translation is just missing something. Sorry for the long response I just have nothing else to do with my spare time.

I understand what your saying about dubbing and all that. But I've seen both the english and japanese versions of this show, and i believe the english version is better, especially with Revy's voice. The english dub made her sound more like who she was: someone who's seen a life of abuse and hardships, and is one tiny step away from madness. The japanese version, didn't portray her that way and I think her character suffers more in the jap dub than the english.
