  • Very proud to be a KENYAN by birth till death do us part!!! GOD BLESS KENYA

  • Nataka soda baridi !

  • The country-music bass, sappy big-bands strings, jazz drums, folksy whistling, and country-music melody, lyrics, and singing style are all extremely un-African. If this is supposed to be music about Kenya, why not use Kenyan musical style (melodies, rhythm, instruments)? And sing it in Swahili? Otherwise, it's not a Kenya song; it's a USA country music song. You could change the word "Kenya" to "Tennessee" and no one would know the difference; in fact it would actually make more sense. C.

  • @lonewolfintj

English and Swahili are both the official languages of Kenya . Whittaker was born in Nairobi and with this song gives an homage to his country which is Kenya !!! even if it's in English !!

Though am now living in Kensington, London memories of Kamp Muru, Makina, Lindi, Toi, Kamp Lendu, Kaliks, Adams Arcade's chips shop, Line Shaba, Kamp Lendu, Fort Jesus, saara Ngombe remain close to my heart. indeed Roger's has reason, colour is just a decoration.

  • @mg65647

Beautifully said. I am from Kenya too and I was missing home so I decided to listen to this.

  • when all said and done, the heart is where you are born, not your color or creed. He is a true african regardless of skin color.

  • It is not so important the number of years a man has lived, so much as the number of people who have been right glad he's lived them... thank you for living, Roger...

    Hii, Nimependa tu sana.

  • @merchmarine97 Sorry, need to restate it, pathetic moronic hating troll, is there any real reason for you to exist?

  • @merchmarine98 Hmmm... liberal nazi, an interesting concept, proving that you are, indeed, all I assumed you to be, nothing... Speaking of Roger Whittaker, I assume your albums outsell his, where might we find such treasures, as your talent must, indeed, be remarkable...

  • Absolutely divine!! My land is Zimbabwe, but whether it be Kenya, Zimbabwe or anywhere else in that continent, it´s home - it´s free, it´s beautiful and rich. Thank you for posting this song, it made me feel homesick, but in a good way.

  • "N'dio! Uhuru kwa Kenya!"

  • I am a Kenyan living in Dakar, Senegal. Tomorrow is Jamhuri (Independence) day. The national anthem and this song remind me of what is most important. More than that, we must not be isolationists. To all who have visited, rudi Kenya, we await you. To those who are yet to visit Kenya, Jambo na karibuni Kenya. PS Happy Holidays!

  • mIss home. my land is Kenya.....

  • My land is Kenya, too........

  • I am a mzungu from Norway. I will never forget Kenya. And I will never forget an evening with Roger Whittaker singing live at New Stanley in 1973. His music will always evoke wonderful memories from the land where I spent my 15 best years!

My "skål" to a beautiful country with friendly people

  • @Extra757 Thanx dear for your comments. I can relate quite well what you mean for I, too am a "Child" of 4 worlds; four different countries in 3 continents, where I spent a large part of my life (in each country). I love ALL of them and the people there are part of my life. My experiences have made me to look at the world in a very different way.

    Peace!

  • This song has made me cry, stirring up feelings that have been subdued for many years living away from Kenya. Thinking about the fondness I have for Kenya and how she will always hold a special place in my heart.

  • @BridgetJoneification Know how you feel. Grew up there myself. All my childhood memories are there. Though a part of my doesn't want to go back, afraid the picture will spoil.

  • I have all the hopes that our new found light at the end of the tunnel will shine on the Kenyan mass; I hope this light will act as a source of inspiration to the other sprouting democracies. I am proud of my country. From east to the west, home will always remain best. Thanks to Roger Whittaker.

  • very patriotic. i love his song and accompanment.

  • Yes there are many Kenyans, Indian Kenyans, Seychellois Kenyans, Mauritian Kenyans. And many more too many to say. Lovely song.

For those who live overseas how can we forget. Though there may not be many of us in the country now.

  • My Land is Kenya...!

  • Roger yuko juu tu sana! He seems to be more patriotic than many of us; the real children of the soil

  • Take care. Listen and look people.

  • can't say more! Proudly Kenyan!

  • He's the reason an area in the outskirts of nairobi is called waithaka.See,the natives could not spell or read the name whittaker and so decided to localise it.He still lives there,i reckon!

  • @araptowett

Waithaka is a Kikuyu name and I doubt naming the area that had anything to do with Whittaker.

  • I Love Kenya..Best place on earth hands down!

  • I am a PROUD Kenyan!!

  • I like it so much. I was in Kenya first time in 1976. Your voice mike it perfect.

  • Viva Kenya viva!! Big up EAC and asante sana bwana Whittaker!!

  • I was at the same school in Kenya (pronounced "Keenya"). When I speak Swahili I use the Pronunciation appropriate..

  • I remember when I used to work at our farm in Isiolo in 2006, bodering the Lewa conservancy, my bro and I. As dusk came and elephants came to drink on the other side of the fence, the beautiful evening sun going down the hill torching the genlte accacia as if to arson them we would listen to this song, and we would stand still like one would when the National anthem is playing, feeling in total union with the wild. its so passionate it waters my eyes! KENYA MILELE

  • Am proud to be Kenyan

  • The Music is whao!!! (You all idiots speaking about Africa and Kenya as if it were pluto shut up, we are elephants that carry our own tusks, and better shove your strings attached aid where the sun dont shine. Ati suprised a Kenyan listening to John Denver. Talk of Akon. And demkati, yeah, KBC still rocks, its been overtaken, but your view on us, d way u put it is dim. Look at Obama and see where we are getting given the chance to compete on the same pedestal).

    MY LAND IS KENYA. PERIOD

  • Comment removed

  • @WildAlaskanBlossom . I get what you are saying man, but if you read some of the comments some people have posted, you will be surprised at how next to nothing they know about Africa, either that or they are bordering on malice in their comments. Books, man, you have to know the story to understand the versertile issues discussed, most left out. Demkati is the blogger I answered the KBC, the national broadcaster in Kenya still plays great music. Great u appreciate Roger.

  • Can't we leave the racebaiting to the smaller minds and just enjoy the music.

  • Really,a man who destroyed a most fruitfull country in Africa? That gives us, the whites only one solution.....to support

the blacks where ever they are.

  • That was sarkaism I wrote.

By my knoledge Finland sells,or has ever sold military weapons to anywhere else but sovereign countries and not on warzone.

AK47 is russian (honour to Kalashnikov) invetion, but our landmines are still here waiting...for uninvited armed forces. The boers or any white ,born in Africa, must have the right to live in their Fathers and Mothers Land.

  • einfach toll

  • Love this song one of my favourite. My land is Kenya I love it so warm and wild and free.. from highland to the sea. This guy made country music so popular in Kenya. Don't be surprised to come across a Kenyan listening to Jenning Waylon, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams Kenny Chesney, John Denver etc Asanti sana RW. I hope the KBC still do that 2pm sartuday show "lets go country".

  • I saw him Live in Tasmania, Australia during the 1970's. So he must be very famous to be seen in little old Tassie. I thought he was brilliant then and I still think he is brilliant now.

  • This guy is always eating in the resturant i work in...didnt think he was so famous!

  • "It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help".

    - Miss Manners

  • @PadraigM46 Ehm..this guy is world famous and has been so since the 1970's...:-)
