  • @ditdeb Pick up the Woody Guthrie collection of recordings done by the Library of Congress. One of the greatest collections I know of. Woody Guthrie traveled all over collecting, playing, writing, and learning songs of the people, like this one.

  • Thanks for posting. I can remember the first time I ever heard this song. A family reunion were all my uncles and cousins would bring out their guitars and play. We always had at least 6 pickers and we'd sing from noon til night. It was my driving for to learn how to play the guitar.

  • My Grandpa taught me this song as a very young boy. This was our fishing "anthem." We would roll down the road in his 1950 Dodge pickup on the way to the lake in the predawn dark singing this song. I would be clutching a paper sack with two bottles of root beer and some cheese and baloney sandwiches. When I listen to your rendition, I find myself in a pleasantly wistful mood and hankering the taste of cheese and baloney sandwiches with root beer. Thank you so much for sharing your music.
