duane, You are wrong because to be competitive ups and fed ex deliver to every address in the U.S. and don't choose which location to deliver to. I've been at ups for 23 years and we've been delivering to every address for almost that long. UPS must charge double the price of a usps priority letter for a ups second day air letter as an example. so you are wrong an both accounts.
You are correct there are no laws making margins in pricing mandatory.
The correct accusation is that USPS used the monopoly of first class mail, which it gets most of its revenue, to subsidize the small package business and continues to run it at a loss causing unfair competition in the marketplace.
I was a driver for an Airborne Express contractor in 2003 and I remember having to report for DHL orientation ON LABOR DAY, and the contractors had to pay for it all. We were subsequently up shit creek because we had to process two entirely different airbills on two entirely different systems. The remaining DHL employees were so arrogant to us because THEY bought out Airborne, even though Airborne was larger and had a more efficient operating system in the U.S.
There are no laws mandating margins for either UPS or FEDEX. Unlike either UPS or FEDEX however the USPS is obligated by law to deliver mail and packages from anywhere to anywhere else-making them inherently less competitive with a company that can choose delivery locations.
You forgot the largest "competitor" of all. USPS and their unfair trade practices of dictating mandatory margins on UPS and FEDEX. Two competitors and a cheater. Maybe the blame for DHL is USPS in the first place?
